I wonder whether Ainge’s two deals and the fact that the teams who made them were eliminated in the first round while the Jazz are kinda good already and on their way to being contenders has given the league some pause about selling the farm for non-MVP types and, more generally, overpaying for second and third tier stars.

One thing I read while trying to make sense of this is that by extending him now, he can trade Vooch as soon as Saturday. That’s something. I don’t see how they don’t try to trade Vooch and DeRozan. They’re still good players, but they’re 32 and 33 years old, respectively!

Should they be tearing it down now? Probably. Maybe Karnisovas is feeling heat to put a competitive product on the floor, or maybe he feels that he can get more for Vuc while he is signed than by just letting him walk. It will be interested to see what happens with DeRozan and LaVine…those two guys seem more like the bellwethers.

One thing that I think is very important to note is that the Chicago Bulls were literally the number one seed in the Eastern Conference (third best record in the NBA) in the 2012-22 season when their starting point guard, the guy who made the whole roster work, who they gladly paid a tampering penalty for, went down with an injury so bad that he hasn’t played since (and won’t play this upcoming season). I say this only to note that I truly don’t blame Artūras Karnišovas for his bold “all-in” move with the Bulls flaming out. It was just bad luck.

However, that being said, I don’t know what the fuck he is doing now that everything has flamed out. The team is done, why is he trying to keep the band together?
