Wasn’t grimes a guy Ainge wanted as part of a Donovan deal?

Z-man, just thinking somewhere in some other corner of the internet fans of other teams are lamenting how they could have drafted IQ, Grimes and Mitch.

No one in other association precincts is really lamenting the lack of Quentin Grimes or Mitchell Robinson on their roster, especially so after checking out Quentin Grimes’s postseason performance. If the Knicks traded for some guy with those postseason numbers, we’d all be rightly scratching our heads.

Sometimes when I read my own words I can see why people don’t like me.

Humans aren’t meant to communicate this much simply by words on a screen, where tone and meaning and intent are very difficult to read. There’s a reason we respond to body language, facial expression, visual cues when we interact and talk and communicate — we’re essentially hotwired and evolved to do that. (And that’s why in days of yore, letters were always long-winded and flowery; people were trying to make sure they got their tone across.)

There’s also a reason that in most cultures, we observe social niceties before getting to the point even in a serious business meeting. We say hello, ask “how was your trip?,” talk about the weather in the city in which we’re meeting, etc., etc. and only then do we get down to business. No one just walks into the conference room and immediately blurts out, “Hey, how much do you want for your company?”

When someone simply expresses an opinion in text, or even worse, blurts out a question in a work email like “Hey, when can I expect that brief?” it naturally disjoints us. Pre-internet, only a social maladroit, even a supervisory one, would have just walked into someone’s office and immediately blurted out, “When can I expect that brief?” I suppose you’d get that sort of thing occasionally on the telephone, but even on the telephone, you get the advantage of hearing voice, tone, undulation, etc.

but that does give up this game that we’re playing… the one where you’ could never be wrong!

I feel terrible for the guy, always liked him and felt he was unfairly scapegoated for basically all of the Yankees’ failures. Whaddya know, we haven’t exactly been partying like it’s 1999 (or 1996, or 1998) without him.

But he did just completely fall off a cliff production wise in his mid 20s, after more than living up to the prospect hype to begin his career. I’ve never seen anything like it.
