***There’s no real notable difference between being the #11 pick and the #15 pick (yes, you’d always prefer to be picking #11 to #15, but it’s not like #2 versus #6). Neither is a great place to be drafting, but in one, you get playoff games***

With 11, though, you at least had the 2% possibility of moving up to the top pick. That slim chance at a best-case scenario may be better than the strong chance at a worst-case scenario (which is getting stomped in the first round and watching the lottery on tv.)

Harden isn’t taking a discount this time, so yes, he will use the Knicks for leverage before ultimately signing a contract with someone else.

Also, if the Sixers flame out in the playoffs I expect James Harden to at least pull the classic “use the Knicks for leverage” bit. If he’s actually serious about it, not sure Leon Rose would be able to resist.

Shedding enough salary for his max would require a lot of moves, but it’s doable.

I will almost certainly be against this if/when the rumor starts to take form. I am merely predicting we will hear about it.

Wasn’t Grimes supposed to play the Eric Gordon role?

It’s a dicta question because the idea of Eric Gordon is ridiculous and giving up a 1 for him insane, but still.

I brought up Gordon because we’ve been linked to him before and he’s theoretically a more stout defender than Fournier, though I won’t pretend I’ve done any Eric Gordon defensive scouting myself. He’s also strong enough to play the 3 even though he’s undersized for the position, so he’s at least wing adjacent.

Apparently the Rockets have been holding out for a first for him, which I would never consider. I suppose it’s possible his market collapses though and they settle for a look at Cam Reddish.

My sense is that most folks use the word “albatross” to describe a contract that has almost no likelyhood of being traded for anything near neutral value, i.e. will never be movable without attaching assets, or in a deal for a better player. Amare. John Wall. Chandler Parsons. Eddy Curry. You might say Zach LaVine is flirting with being one due to his knee. It is probably the worst possible adjective you can attach to a player or contract, except maybe “cancer.”

Referring to a healthy 27yo Randle who was one season removed from being all-NBA as an albatross even before his extension kicked in was never really appropriate. It was certainly a “worrisome” contract, kind of like RJ’s is right now. And similarly, it was always one that should have been viewed with patience, rather than dumped via sweetener at rock bottom value.

I’m just glad we aren’t watching him play this way for another team after using significant draft capital to dump him. Not that I love his game all that much, or that I’d mind if we traded him in a neutral to positive deal, my only quibble is in terms of asset valuation and management.
