Clash — LOL. Thx. TBH I haven’t read her book/s, yet, but I think I read some piece about the interesting ethical issues raised (as I recall) about her use of a lover (unnamed and then named) as the subject in two of them — a lover who did not wish to be so exposed.

TNFH — You may be right that Leon would have been fine if he paid out the “excess” cap money to existing players. Like you, I do not believe this front office has a “Win now or die” directive from above. But surely some here believe they do, and, regardless of that, the Steven Smiths of the world would have been beating that drum after every single loss, “If only Leon had not *failed* to attract free agents.” From a former agent’s POV, getting the wrong guy might be better than getting *no* guy b/c if we suck “It’s his fault, not mine.” That’s craven, but I suspect that’s part of Leon’s thinking.
