But Beal would cost much less than Mitchell, and Rose was willing to give up a lot for Mitchell, just not as much as Cleveland. So I don't think him not getting Mitchell means much of anything (it's also notable that he later leaked/whined that he wasn't given a chance to beat Cleveland's offer).

Sorry but the Phil jackson era was FAR worse than what Leon has done. Both record wise and with what he left us after he left. He literally drafted Frank and wasted a high lottery pick a week before he was fired. His vets acquisitions were Noah, Sam dalembert, Calderon, etc. all far worse than the vets Leon had gotten. I mean did Phil ever sign a free agent in his youthful prime as good as Brunson? As good as Alex Burks? He left us saddled with Noah’s contract and gave Melo a freaking mega max no trade clause. And he never even got close to the playoffs. The best he ever did was about half a season we were 500 with Melo, rolo and rookie KP.

You could broadly call them both hybrid approaches but that would be super disingenuous. Leon may be going for wins and competency but he has also built up a bevy of young players and picks in the process. if Leon was fired today and our next GM had the ability to do whatever they wanted there would be a lot of people who would want the job bc you could potentially do a lot with where we’re at right now

The crazy thing about Rose is that, again, he was the one who was wooed! Probably because of Bob Myers' success in Golden State. So you would think that, just like with Phil, who was also wooed, that if anyone could do their own plan, it would be Rose and Phil, and yet they both had the same basic plan, just Rose's plan is slightly less dumb than Phil's. I just can't imagine walking away from a cushy job to a new field at Rose's age and then saying, "Let's just play it safe. I don't want to get fired right away." Then why did you take the job, dude?!?!

The pros in the FO (*) I'm sure grasp the purgatorial nature of the whole thing but getting from that to actually escaping requires (1) them to pitch Dolan on rebuilding and probably losing playoff revenue for his publicly-traded corporation for three years minimum; and (2) Dolan to sign off on it.

(*) At least Aller, Rosas, Perry, and Perrin. Probably Rose, too.

I agree pt, the thought doesn’t really make me much more optimistic about the situation. It was more of a commentary on on the fact that naturally the best season we’ve had in almost a decade turned out to be a curse in disguise that *may have* derailed a competent plan.

I mean, I’d rather a front office that knows this is not good than one in total denial, the likes of which we’ve experienced. But it doesn’t do much with how few options are available to do something both smart and drastic.
