  1. Thanks Owen!

Strong start, good ball movement and red hot shooting…

Pels in a back to back and 3-in-4 nights.

  2. They’re playing right now like the opponent is good. Which is good.
Thibs needs to figure out how to compensate for Kemba on defense.

  3. Sorry, folks, thought the game was at 7:30. Glad to see the Knicks already up by a nice number by the time I thought the game was starting!

  4. If that stupid RJ hadn’t taken that midrange all our makes would be from 3 or at the rim.

    Rockets east.

  5. And yeah, RJ is looking good even if the numbers are meh.

I hope DJPhan comes back to take a brief, tasteful, restrained victory lap. No bat flips.

I am intrigued by Herbert Jones. Apparently a great defender.

  6. Yes, small crowd, the New Orleans Pelicans are ripe to transform into the Seattle Flannel Shirts…

  7. Max:
Yes, small crowd, the New Orleans Pelicans are ripe to transform into the Seattle Flannel Shirts…

Recent piece on Garnett who says that’s something A-Rod is looking at with the Timberwolves…

  8. So they’re going to become the Las Vegas Gamblers?

Come on guys, keep the pedal down, close it early and give the rookies some playing time…

    Taj is a rock.

  9. this game has the potential to get really sloppy…

it’ll be hard for the knicks to stay focused against the pels…could see close to 20 turnovers tonight…and, we’ll still win by 10…

  10. We come as friends
    Give us zion

    Or Zions?
Did he broke the Homer Simpson’s feared 300 pounds?

  11. yeah..this smells like the magic game…no intensity…thibs should get some rookies in there to send a message…

  12. #Or Zions?
Did he broke the Homer Simpson’s feared 300 pounds?#

    lol
    He eats Ingram’s food

  13. These games are good opportunities for Youngsters to kick ass
    They should grab them

  14. I’d really like to see some minutes of Grimes instead of the shell of IQ …

RJ is feasting on the Pels, nice….

  15. Knicks seem to be playing just hard enough to keep a double digit lead in a tenuous fashion

  16. if anyone else was playing like kemba..they would be on the bench…thibs has to man up and bench him

  17. Really embarrassing, the moment they stop moving the ball they start playing like shit…

Randle must sit a bit, let Toppin run in the prairies….

  18. KB Apprentice:
Just joining at the half. What happened to up by double figures?

Sloppy play, turnovers leading to scores, starting 5/6 on threes but then going 1/8, more sloppy play, stopped playing defense.

It’s not a Randle iso collapse, at least.

  19. Valenciunas up there with Sabonis on First Team All “not the guy you want getting out of a Viking Longboat on your beach”

  20. Sorry, I love Ja, but If you also account for RJ’s defense,, it’s not a “massive” drop off from 2 to 3 in the draft.

  21. Watching Randle, he’s literally just walking up and down the court, not even looking at the action. It’s weird.

  22. Randle had words with our bench, then went matador on D and walked slowly into the offensive set…

  23. totally disinterested as a team…thibs not pushing the right buttons….or maybe he doesn’t give a shit tonight either…just get the w and move on..

  24. Someone has to smack these guys in the head and remind them what happened in the Orlando gam.

  25. Quickly is becoming useless. You don’t want to rush a move and screw him up worse, but at some point Thibs is going to have to take a look at the rookies.

  26. The way Quickley is playing, it’s really disappointing to see Grimes and Deuce on the bench…

  27. Fournier looks more like a great tennis player than a great basketball player but love it when hits his shots

  28. cybersoze:
    RJ is playing great

Yeah, was just going to ask. I’m checking in and out, but the box says RJ is having a strong game. Eye Test concurs?

  29. Fournier has a great shot, but I didn’t know that his handle was so weak. Clutch Kemba on that last three, but RJB has been a stud tonight.

  30. Oof.

IQ 1-5 with a missed free throw, a turnover, and three personal fouls in 11 minutes. WTF?

  31. If I see one more iso Randle fadeaway 2 when we’re shooting the lights out I’m gonna blow my brains out

  32. Thank god someone realized RJ needs the ball down the stretch, what a game from him!!!

  33. aside from our bad offense down the stretch these other teams have hit some preposterous shots against us

  34. And it’s great that RJ is playing this way to convince our main target of the 2023 free agent crop to come to MSG. :)

  35. cybersoze: our main target of the 2023 free agent crop

I was rooting for this until they showed Zion jogging back and forth on the court before the game — holy mother of god he was big, and not in a good way. 300 lbs is a very real possibility. He looked like an offensive tackle three years after retirement.

  36. Barret has done EVERYTHING in these past 3 mins. Hit threes, hit free throws, rebounded, etc.

  37. Raven: I was rooting for this until they showed Zion jogging back and forth on the court before the game — holy mother of god he was big, and not in a good way. 300 lbs is a very real possibility. He looked like an offensive tackle three years after retirement.

Yeah, am I allowed to say I never want to see Zion in a Knicks jersey?

  38. Biggest problem down the stretch of these games hasn’t been the offense it’s been the defense.

  39. RJ Barrett career night, a virtuoso performance.

Him, Kemba, The Marquis and Taj saved our skin tonight…

  40. Zion will be fit in 2023, have some faith people. It’ll be amazing, the Knicks with superstars RJ and Zion. :)

  41. Oh BTW tomorrow I’ll start a crowdfunding to help raise free throws for Trae Young,
    everybody feel free to contribute…

  42. I hope I see games like this from RJ for the next decade.

    Crazy night. Raptors Monday!

  43. DRed:
    go rj go rj go

    How prophetic!

Watched on and off tonight (was on call and busy evening), so apologies if this was mentioned already:

since we have a deep team with no true superstar, no true closer, isnt the answer to just feed The hot hand down the stretch? basically what they did tonight with RJ?

  44. jotapay:
Barret has done EVERYTHING in these past 3 mins. Hit threes, hit free throws, rebounded, etc.

Is it just me or was anyone else getting Scottie Pippen vibes from RJ tonight?

  45. Incredible performance by RJ. Did everything well and his moxie is fun to watch.

What a terrible performance by Randle. He either look tired or hung over from partying in Bourbon St. His awful D and laziness almost cost us the game. Only 9 shots too which in hindsight may have been a good thing. He needs a good game or two soon to shake off the erratic play so far.

And yet, we are 5-1. The depth and Kemba and Fournier upgrades are playing dividends.

Also Zion looks massive. Someone needs to get him on a diet cuz putting more weight on that foot is a recipe for disaster.

  46. Definitely a win that tastes bad right now but will taste good tomorrow.

Randle played 38 minutes. This was a game where Thibs should have put Taj at the 4 to close the game. Randle was just standing around, Taj was flying around all game.

  47. since we have a deep team with no true superstar, no true closer, isnt the answer to just feed The hot hand down the stretch? basically what they did tonight with RJ?

Absolutely! But someone think he’s the closer and put up a scowl if he’s not allowed to take all the shots in the last two minutes…

I’m really worried about Randle’s body language tonight…

  48. Missed most of the second half on a pizza run. And. It even good pizza. On the one hand, sorry I missed RJ’s masterpiece. On the other, these late game near collapses are almost as exasperating as our old fake comebacks.

  49. If we win 45 more games and every one of them ends with a late game collapse I’ll be ok with that.

You have to build a big lead to blow a big lead right?

  50. damn..rj may have taken THE STEP tonight…he willed it…

bottom line..this was not a good look but whatever…

if we can slip zion in there in 2023 and jettison randle…with whomever at the point..that would be niiiiccee…

  51. Randle played like he was handling midnight feedings. I didn’t know his newborn went on the road with the team.

  52. GoNyGoNYGo:
Randle played like he was handling midnight feedings.I didn’t know his newborn went on the road with the team.

forgot about that..ok…let’s give him a few weeks…iq…on the other hand…time to take a seat..if that was obi..thibs would have put him on irrevocable waivers by now…

  53. Not gonna hype it too much as it is the 6th game of the season, but my inner homer is seeing a RJ leap on defense and if he has some eventual nights where he takes over like this, I’m so much more confident for our future. The kid is not afraid to put the work in.

  54. Zion should be ashamed of himself for what he’s been doing to his body. Is everyone afraid to tell him the truth?

  55. Thibs is loyal to his players but Grimes should get IQ’s playing time.

I saw Bones Hyland play for Denver last night and he’s probably better than IQ is right now.

  56. We could be 2-4 but we are 5-1. I am ok with that.

Didn’t watch the second half but pretty stoked about RJ.

The Randle regression isn’t unexpected. I think he’ll bounce back but he’s always seemed like a tough guy to put out there with a lot of good players.

Knicks should be 6-0, they’ve held double digit leads in every game this season.

i mean..he had foot surgery…probalby no weight bearing for awhile ….give him a little rope…

Years ago we argued over whether billion-dollar organizations should hire quants to manage their assets (they should have, and did, and it is not going to end well, just like in baseball), and now we need to argue this question: Should a billion-dollar organization hire an, oh, I don’t know, $100k nutritionist and a $100k personal chef to successfully manage the bodyfat percentage and thereby joint and bone health of its generational talent/soon-to-be $200M man?

  60. pepper: i mean..he had foot surgery…probalby no weight bearing for awhile ….give him a little rope…

You can’t maintain muscle mass without stimulus, but you sure can minimize bodyfat with diet alone.

  61. who knows what Zion has going on in his life…he’s like barely 20…

although it is kind of fun to see what refrigerator perry would have looked like playing basketball…

  62. Owen:
Also, per Macri, we currently have the best offense in basketball.

Yeah, I thought we might have the #1 offensive rating after this game. I was too lazy to calculate it, but we’re 2nd in the league in PPG and we play a pretty slow pace.

EDIT: Actually, the 76ers passed us after roasting Atlanta.

  63. Six games in, the top four teams in the conference are stillNY, Charlotte, Chicago and Washington. Maybe it’s a fluke of the scheduling, but it’s still surprising.

  64. world series is turning in to something…so many good arms coming in from the pens on both sides…

  65. Holy crap did anyone see the ending of the Nuggets-Twolves game? Wolves have a 2 on 1 to tie the game and Barton with an incredible block on Beasley to end it.

  66. Kemba is currently shooting 56% from 3, so I guess it’s fair to assume this offensive rating will eventually come down a bit, but we can’t deny the results so far has been very fun to watch.

  67. Team is So Deep that even when collapsing or our top guns choke i feel certain that we’ll still win.
Otoh i felt the Orl loss coming from miles away!
    Wtf is happening to me?

  68. The Honorable Cock Jowles: Yeah, he’s in street clothes.

I was worried that Zion was going to eat RJ in one bite. That was a close call.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s no one in New Orleans who’s willing to speak honestly to him about his obesity. Sad.

I’m super pumped about the 5-1 record (especially with my 56 win prediction looking golden), but I can’t lie, three other teams having 5-1 records blunts the enjoyment just a teensy bit. Especially as one of them is Washington.

  70. Bruno Almeida:

We’re also getting high volume bad 3pt shooting from Randle, RJ, and Quickley, so there will be some positive regression to the mean from them as well.

  71. JK47: We’re also getting high volume bad 3pt shooting from Randle, RJ, and Quickley, so there will be some positive regression to the mean from them as well.

It does feel a bit crazy that we can legitimately say this team has not been at their best and is still 5-1. Noel hasn’t even played a single minute yet too.

  72. ***Should a billion-dollar organization hire an, oh, I don’t know, $100k nutritionist and a $100k personal chef to successfully manage the bodyfat percentage and thereby joint and bone health of its generational talent/soon-to-be $200M man?***

If they hired a nutritionist, some players would say “I’m doing my own research on quinoa” (while continuing to stuff cheeseburgers into their mouths). #cantwinfortrying

  73. Re: Klay Thompson (from the previous thread)

I think that being the 2nd best player on the best team in NBA history is enough to at least open the conversation about being an all time great. (But that probably means that Draymond Green should be the one feeling snubbed, not Klay Thompson:)

  74. I just can’t wrap my head around the Klay Thompson snub thing when so many great players didn’t make the list (which, well, duh, right? There have been so many great players over the years).

  75. Woooo – RJ Barrett last night man.
Just watched all his FGA and assists on NBA stats site. Most impressive is that he had 18 FGA and maybe just 1 of them wasn’t within the flow of the offense ie. not a great shot. Most impressive — a fair number were jumpers / 3’s off the dribble that looked true and confident. And the passing was great tonight too – 6 assists and it was like 5 dunks/layups and a wide open 3 he assisted on – no cheap assists. And I loved that the team recognized it was his night, and in the last 2 minutes the whole team treated him like he was the MAN. Awesome.

The team transition defense last night though — really bad. The offense has generally looked great but the defense, not so much.

  76. Katz:

RJ Barrett with a critique of himself when asked if his career-high 35-point performance was his best game in the NBA: “It was definitely a good game overall offensively. I was terrible on defense today. Not good.”

    Love this kid.

  77. On Twitter I can say rapper xyz is not a top 50 rapper of all-time. Regardless of whether or not they are, rap music has been going on for 40 years. Saying xyz is not one of the 50 best rappers of all-time is not a diss, because there’s 100s of phenomenal rappers several times over.. Saying Klay Thompson isn’t a top 75 NBA player is not an insult because there’s 100s of phenomenal NBA players several times over. But few people think past the players they know and most don’t know even 75 players.

  78. It’s a strange thing to argue about. If you stick, I don’t know, Mason Plumlee in the 50s he probably would have been the best player in the league. Nobody could really shoot in the good old days either compared to current standards.

This team is a little strange but there isn’t a player I don’t like on it, so who cares really.
