Because what really matters is the headline. This is why you’re the sucker. It’s as if you think the moral of “The Boy Who Cried Wolf” is that we need to take all claims of wolves seriously at all times no matter who the information comes from. Please.

But seriously…. when I read it I thought it might be useful if someone on this list happens to have GI symptoms without a cough, not to JUST assume it was the clams casino you had last night, that C/V presents that way sometimes.

The first thing they taught you 50 years ago when you were studying a science discipline is to always take into account the biases of the examiner. If a cigarette company pays for a study it is possible it might be factual, but I’m looking really hard at it. It’s essential advice when looking at research papers and good advice in general. I do that as a matter of course.

Now … if you are going to try to tell me the MSM has covered themselves with glory in their “news” reporting the past few years and deserves the benefit of the doubt, I’ve got a bridge in Brooklyn I’m interested in selling you.

If it turns out to be accurate that’s great, but given the mass amounts of disinformation and outright lies rolling around right wing media outlets everyone’s initial response should be distrust. No one should default to trusting consistent liars, even if they try to play the victim afterwards.
