The Warriors won with a lot of 3s, but they were also an aberrational team. They had 3 of the greatest 3 point shooters of all time on the same team. Even with that, their offense correctly stressed player and ball movement, they had 3 great playmakers on the court instead of 1 that the defense could lock down on, and they also had a great defense.

No one is going to throw shade at the Warriors vis-a-vis the Rockets team that they eked by, but the Rockets took 46% more 3PA during the regular season (leading the #2 Nets by 546 attempts, an nearly doubling the last-place Wolves at 1845) and took more 3PA than 2PA over the course of the whole year while shooting a robust 36.2% over the course of the year, leading the league in ORtg — truly astounding stuff. They also had the 6th-ranked defense. I remind you again that this was a 65-win team that lost in 7 to a team with two top-5 modern-era scorers on it, in their prime.

And it’s also not like the Warriors’ defense was preventing them from getting shots up at all — they were simply not going in.

So how unbelievable was it that Houston missed that many threes — many of which were wide open — in a row? I’m 61 and generally good health, but I’m at the age where the death rate does start climbing a bit. But for you youngsters, other than potential inconvenience, you are extremely likely to come out of this fine and maybe even live long enough to see the Knicks win a championship.
