About 3 years ago my fiancee bought me a Porzingis jersey for my birthday. I haven’t brought it out of the closet since he was traded.
Today, she wants me to “wear something sporty”. The jersey came up, and I explained the reasons why I don’t/”can’t” wear it anymore. She then hits me with, “so that’s more important than the fact your fiancee bought it for you? I paid over $100 for that jersey!”

Yesterday I was reminiscing with my kids about a few years when we talked about naming our new rescue dog Zinger when KP was tearing up the league.

Fortunately, cooler heads prevailed and we named him Melo (kidding, he’s Milo)

After a promising start RJ is playing… pretty much as expected.

I suppose the context is that he’s playing better than I expected. He’s certainly playing with a savvy and intelligence that I wasn’t expecting. Obviously little to no credit should accrue to Fizdale for that but he’s not obviously fucking him up, you know?

A semi-serious question: does she know that Porzingis has been accused of rape? If not, might telling her that get you off the hook? If not, buy her something hideous that costs you more than $100, and perhaps you can negotiate…?

RJ is playing better than expected,

After a promising start RJ is playing… pretty much as expected. I think he’s still a legit prospect and he fills up a boxscore and plays better defense than advertised, but I can’t say overall that he has exceeded my expectations on the offensive end. The defense is nice though, that part has been a pleasant surprise.

Also it’s not a complete re-framing of Fiz as a development coach as Merry & Pills talked about that at the time of hire. But.. Lo0k, RJ is playing better than expected, Knox has improved, Frank is playing better. Mitch is the same. Trier is (I guess?) the same. DSJ is worse and who the fuck knows why but also who really gives a shit, Dotson is the same but he didn’t work out this summer due to surgery, and Iggy kinda looks like he’s real bad which is bog standard for 2nd rnd picks. If you’re looking for development, it’s actually happening! Or did you expect Knox to become real consistent in his second year? What are the actual expectations they have?

I think it’s bullshit. Fiz is in the hot seat because the team sucks and he’s fucking horrible at the X’s and O’s and they are losing a lot. He’s getting the team to do what he wants. There’s more ball movement. The shot selection seems to be improving. It just doesn’t lead to wins because Fiz’s sets are stupid and the roster is badly lopsided and the players are mostly bad. But Merry & Pills can’t actually say that (or have Berman write it, same diff) since they were very careful to not mention the playoffs or winning at all and to always talk about development. Caring about winning would be shifting the goalposts. They also can’t say that the real reason this is bad is because Dolan is hearing sell the team chants at games and it pisses him off so he’s demanding wins from a team that clearly was not built to win anything.
