So NYK are spending much effort trying to make Randle work. What does Randle do well? Nice at driving and finishing after some motion/screen. Are we sure Mitch couldn’t do that? He’s got a soft touch at the rim able, to finish in ways other than dunking. He’s coordinated. I’ve arrived at the conclusion it’s better to try to expand Mitch’s game on offense. Randle’s a guy who may be best suited as a scorer on a 2nd unit at max of 13m AAV.

I think there definitely is a status aspect to it, as was made clear by the fact that when asked about being taken out of the starting lineup, Robinson was clearly displeased. He is, for all intents and purposes, being “benched.” That’s a blow to a guy’s ego, whether logical or not. And it seems odd to irritate your best player, who’s still in his very early 20s. Most teams do the opposite and cater to their best player, especially when he is a young guy, more prone to having a precarious ego.

That said, yes, his minutes are obviously the most important issue. Much more so than starting.

Fizdale might be trying to motivate Mitch to be better at using his fouls. I don’t see a problem with that at all. He’s 21 years old and has 34 year old vet Taj Gibson playing in front of him. You guys are way over the top.

He’s fouled out once! The fouls are a big problem but put him on the court, he’s the only good player on the team.

Mitch is averaging an absurd 7.0 fouls per 36 and he’s had some injuries, so maybe we all need to chill about his minutes a little. Hopefully he’ll get in a groove and start having some 30 minute games but it’s hard to do that when he’s fouling somebody every other possession.
