Portis and Randle playing well together may be the worst thing that could happen to this team. It’s the only real chance that Mitch gets his playing time significantly cut. Randle hasn’t exactly been dominating out there with Mitch in the starting lineup.

Early B the problem is the salary cap is determined by league income, and the league makes hundreds of millions of dollars from deals with China. So you’re right that LeBron has a lot more to lose personally than say Elfrid Payton, Elfrid Payton also doesn’t want the salary cap going down.

Yeah, but the difference is $500 million (I read this number form one source) from China gets spread out over 450 NBA players for ~$1.1 million per player. Of course that doesn’t count the league taking their cut, the owners taking their cut, or the cost of merchandise and operations. Even assuming the money goes straight to the players, the incentive to pay stars allocates most of the ~$1.1 mill average to star players like Lebron.

Elfrid Payton makes a small fraction of his money from China. Lebron can or does make multiples of his NBA salary from China. Nike, Sprite, and Space Jam 2 (with ancillary merch and endorsement opportunities) will probably cover his yearly NBA salary from China alone.

Mitch is still for the most part getting by on unearthly athleticism rather than instinct for the game. He should absolutely be starting in the regular season — Fiz claims Portis is in there tonight to see if his spacing the floor opens things up for the guards — but I can envision a scenario where he doesn’t improve much this year at understanding basic defensive fundamentals. He’ll get away with that on many nights because he’s insanely talented, but smart teams will be able to scheme around him.

i’m not too worried about mitch…. he’s been experimenting with some range on his shot which i don’t think he should really be continuing but the first game was fine other than that…. second game he had foul trouble…

doing what he does… there’s low volatility… unless he regularly starts taking 15 footers.. and missing… then he’ll be roughly what he was last year with some regression in his blocking and shooting…
