Raptors and Lakers are the only teams with the pieces to make it happen. Boston is fucked by the Rose rule (ha ha) or I’d consider them front-runners. We all know they’d find a way to turn Jaylen Brown, Terry Rozier, and Gordon Hayward’s good leg with a couple nebulous firsts into a guy with a 9.0 BPM and anecdotally incredible defense.

Toronto would at least have to give up Siakam, who is not AD but is an outstanding player and only improving. (Trading him could bite them a la James Harden to the Rockets, but whatever.)

The Lakers would benefit most from a trade, as they have very few high-production assets. According to VORP, the trio of Ball, Kuz and Ingram have combined for 2.7 wins against replacement this year. They’d have to do some weird positionless basketball though, as they’d be pretty damn thin if they had to give up all three.

Siakam is awesome but I think New Orleans demands him in any deal with Toronto and if push comes to shove you have to do it, right? I’m a huge Siakam fan but the difference between a borderline all-star and an annual MVP candidate is still pretty large.

Anunoby and Wright aren’t doing a ton for Toronto this year anyway, though I still like them as pieces going forward. So it’s really a Siakam + JVal/Ibaka for AD swap in terms of the implication on the 2018-2019 season. I think that undoubtedly makes Toronto significantly better.

Not sure why you need KP if you have AD.

Embiid and AD would be a pretty spicy frontcourt. Not sure it’s optimal but I think they win the East.

If Toronto really wants AD, they have to keep Siakam and instead offer multiple unprotected 1RPs. You’re not winning a championship with Kawhi + AD alone (especially since they’re both somewhat injury-prone and you’ve gutted your bench to acquire AD)–Siakam is literally the second best player on the Raptors. So you need to sweeten the pot with more 1RPs, which hurts, but if you’re serious about competing you pull the trigger without blinking.

0% chance he’s coming to the Knicks. Maybe in FA if KP looks like a superstar and our youth develops well. But he’s definitely not agitating for a trade to New York.

It’s extremely remote no matter what, but whether you agree or not, there is a 0% chance Davis would come to NY if KP is going out as part of the deal. It would probably have to include this year’s 1st rounder, Knox, and salary.

The probability of another star wanting to join the Knicks if Davis is here skyrockets. Wouldn’t matter if KP were here. KD’s gotta like that. Kawhi’s people will push him to Knicks. The main problem is KP would fight a trade to NO. Would KP take the QO and risk losing tens of millions of dollars if he suffers another major injury? Would Pels call his bluff?

BTW Enes expiring money could be real handy if Pels don’t want to take on long-term salary.

The thing is that if Boston wants Davis now they have to convince the Pelicans to wait until the offseason, and why would the Pelicans do that unless every other offer is terrible? (And they shouldn’t be).

I think it’s more likely that the Pels will be anxious to trade him now, to kickstart their rebuild as fast as possible. There’s no point in keeping him and not even going to the playoffs this year.

If he wants to go to a team that contends right away, that’s not us. But in terms of dark horses, I wouldn’t rule out the Clippers. They are pretty good and would definitely be contenders if they got him and didn’t have to strip themselves bare to do it.
