2019-20 Game Thread: Knicks vs. Magic: I Wish We Could Make Dolan Disappear

Alakazam!

Today was partially a good day, as the Knicks got a fine return on Marcus Morris.

It was also partially a bizarre day, as Dolan decided that he couldn’t wait until the season was over to hire a new team president.

Typically, if you’re available to become team president in the middle of the season, you probably shouldn’t be chosen as team president. See December 2003 and March 2014.

But hey, maybe Leon Rose will surprise us!

Let’s go? Knicks!

The new theme is good. I also like the reappearance of the upcoming game calendar and the links to the previous and next thread at the bottom.

One thing to note about the new theme is that comments aren’t numbered (at least on my mobile). If that could be changed that would be great. Theme looks nice otherwise! Is there a dark mode available?

Frank starting at the 2 and Bullock at the 3 tonight nice.

Such a good point.

Another thing worth noting is that the quotes are in a much bigger font than the rest of the page

i’m in favor any change that improves stability. thanks for making the effort. if you ever need to crowd source some support for the cost of code fixes, i’m sure you’ll find some takers here. also, strat is gonna need an extra 2000 characters.

edit: i agree that numbered posts are useful

On a day when Andrew Wiggins is traded and it’s not to the Knicks, you have to feel pretty good.

However, the Leon Rose move is still hard to get over. Here is the list of people that have fucked up the Knicks the most over the past 20 years:

Scott Layden
Isiah Thomas
Phil Jackson
Leon Rose

The only one left to still hire was just hired.

Did the KB layout just change mid thread or did I have a stroke?”

Ha I was thinking the same thing….

Does anyone know what Trier did to become persona non grata?? Kind of baffling unless I missed whatever bad deed it is he’s accused of doing

lol, did some genius really just use the term dipshit on this site?! what’s next, kiss my grits?

RJ back. Mitch hooping.

I like the new era.

I also think the numbers for the comments are useful…

I use dipshit, it’s a perfectly cromnulent word.

I didn’t realize RJ was back tonight

Hello yes I would like this elfrid Payton every game for 8 million dollars please

If Payton could shoot at all, he’d solve a lot of problems.

I think an underrated fact about Mitch is how fast he is up and down the court. The guy looks like a wide receiver on the fast break.

i’d argued that the term dipshit isn’t used nearly enough considering how well it might apply in many circumstances…

holy cow – we have automatic spell check thing going on now (i know there was a button, but, i never used it)…

i love you mike…

An unmentioned good thing about today is continuity. The Knicks have started to look not abysmal since Miller took over. There seems to be more chemistry than we’ve seen in a while. I’ve seen some good play today. One in particular, Randle providing help defense when Mitch challenged Vuk who faked and drove. I don’t recall seeing much of that since …. ?

I’m behind a bit in the game but it looked like Miller actually called a play for Frank on an in bounds and Frank made a easy layup with 6:10 remaining in the quarter. Was I seeing things?

I still can’t get over how dumb it is to automatically take someone out with 2 fouls in the 2nd quarter

Brian, I guess there are no message numbers any longer either? But that’s OK. The site looks great. Oh, and I agree with getting back to mixed case for user names.

I’ll be the curmudgeon (or dipshit if you prefer) and say that I liked the old theme better. The new font is too small and there’s too much blank space. But I appreciate the effort!

Avoiding the outages is big.

I don’t know – still adjusting. I agree there is a lot of blank space. Sure there is more to come.

RJ looks healthy, nice to see.

Gibson with 15 minutes in the first half on the first game after the trade deadline. Mitch with 8.

Finally a modern lineup with three guards and two forwards. Did they not know they could do this when Morris was here??

God forbid they get the memo that Randle can play the 5.

Ntilikina didn’t come in again after getting taken out in the first. Instead Barrett just stayed in

Is Miller still auditioning for his job?

The team already sucked.

The best player is gone.

The trade deadline is over.

What is the point behind playing some of the older veterans this many minutes.

Miller is going for W’s anyway he can get’em…he is auditioning for some job…but I doubt he is in this one next year….

Is Miller still auditioning for his job?

miller is auditioning for the job in the same sense he is eligible for the nobel peace prize

Another thing i notice is that the bottom comments have to load so you don’t get a smooth scroll….. (edit: doesn’t seem to be happening anymore)

Frank is d’ing up tonight, fun to watch….

…and links should look different. Need an underline.

Don’t worry. We’ll QA this for you Brian 🙂

Ooh Elfrid…..

Balling tonight…

This game could use some Mitch. Crazy for me to suggest it I know…

I’m not sure you can say Miller isn’t playing the young guys tonight. Dotson and Trier are sick and unavailable to play, so the only two young’s who haven’t had playing time tonight are Allen and Iggy.

I think Miller should fine any player that fakes a 3 and then travels like Frank just did. Just shoot the ball!

Knox is utter trash I wish we traded him for a second

“I’m not sure you can say Miller isn’t playing the young guys tonight. Dotson and Trier are sick and unavailable to play, so the only two young’s who haven’t had playing time tonight are Allen and Iggy.”

Taj 20 minutes?

Bullock more minutes than Knox (I know Knox sucks)?

I’m not saying those guys shouldn’t be playing on merit or at all (at least not until later in the season), but I think we need to start shifting the minutes. That said, even if Miller is out here, I’m not sure he isn’t coaching for some kind of job. Maybe he can earn himself an assistant coaching job on a good team for a good organization. That would be like a promotion.

I think Miller is hoping for the Herb Williams route…brief cameo as HC and then back to holding the clipboard for the duration for the next regime…

I’d love to get the most recent comments listed again. Scrolling down some of the longer threads isn’t fun, especially on mobile

That quarter was horrid. Knox is awful. RJ needs to hit FTs.

Bullock more minutes than Knox (I know Knox sucks)?

I can’t get on a guy for not playing Knox at this point. 40 mins a game for the rest of the year won’t make him a better player.

I was starting to think Knox might need more minutes to show if he can cut it…but now…not so much…

Digging the new theme. I turned the game on late. Surprised to see RJ playing. Looks like they’re easing him back in? Maybe after he’s back up to speed, he will start at the 3 and MitchRob & Taj will trade places. Maybe we will see what Miller can do without Mook using so much of the offensive possessions. I think RJ can take over games like Mook did. He won’t shoot like him, but I believe he has it in him. It’s up to coach to give him the rock

How about for the underline in the links:

text-decoration: underline;
}

One thing I won’t miss about Morris is how he kills ball movement. It was probably better that he did, but it’s just not fun basketball

Like the energy.

It helps when all the shots fall. And Elfrid is wearing magnets on his hands.

Elfrid has these random games where he looks like the defender I thought he’d be coming out of college

“I can’t get on a guy for not playing Knox at this point. 40 mins a game for the rest of the year won’t make him a better player.”

I think the forum was pretty close to unanimous against that pick. I know I wanted Mikal Bridges.

I sort of understood their thinking. They knew Mikal Bridges was older and not likely to become much more than a defensive specialist with good shot selection (which was what I wanted at the time anyway – KP/Frank/Bridges). They swung for the fences with the much younger Knox but he looked bad on both sides to me. To me, a “project” should be really good on one side and you work on the other side over a few years. If a guy is a project on both sides, that’s a problem.

Steve Clifford is a horrible coach lol, how you going to have mcw, fultz and gordon out there at the same time…. there is no where to drive

Elfrid has been on a roll with the triple-double the other day. He’s had 9 games in a row with 7 or more assists.

Re: Knox

When you’re not good at any level of basketball from high school to college, it’s not great to be he’ll be good in the NBA.

The only other guy as bad as Knox is Miles Bridges, another guy everyone on KB was against

Mitch with 3 straight games of less than 20 minutes played and 3 or less fouls. This shit is so unbelievably dumb. He had a really good stretch of game before this too.

Missed a chunk of the game, but of course the Wayne Ellington game happens after the deadline.

I miss having the most recent comment option on the website homepage but the scroll is much faster it appears….

This was shaping up to be a good loss and now it’s a good win. Screw the tank. The Wicked Witch is dead, we traded for our first 1rp in 20 years, going to enjoy this one. If we don’t blow it.

As for Mitch, I am sure is learning a lot about crunch time watching from the bench….

This type of performance is why some of us thought Payton was a good gamble to make. Everybody knew he can’t shoot and is not very likely to improve much, but he fills up the stat sheet and is productive in many areas. I still don’t think he’s starting caliber or anything but he’s competent.

No doubt. Taj has been balling. I have no problem with Taj.

Other aspects of the site change I am here for. The ad I am seeing for makeup for women over 40. That ad engine is firing about as well Ben Simmons…

What a win. Is this a winning streak? Credit the new look.

Elfriid almost had a triple double with steals…wow.

After wins like this, I guess I’m glad they flattened out the lottery odds.

Good no call. Definitely.

Fultz and Smith Jr. are both listed at 6’3 but the former looks taller.

Owen, the recent comments tab is still there, it’s just at the very bottom of the main page, not at the end of the newest thread as it used to be. If you scroll all the day down you’ll find it.

This is the softest part of our schedule, we could easily end up with a 6 game streak: Pistons, Hawks, Wizards

Thanks Bruno. Can’t believe I didn’t notice it. Although it’s on the side of the page for me. Maybe Mike moved it.

fultz might look taller because of his crazy upright posture. i’ve never seen anything like him. he moves at top speed but looks like he’s just standing on a hoverboard or something.

I keep saying Payton is a consistent shot away from being a VERY good player. I was very happy we signed him.

When he was healthy and playing steadily he had some very good stretches last year, but he’s had on and off injury battles that impacted him negatively. That kind of hid what his actual level of play could be.

I’m very disappointed his shot and TS% hasn’t been better, but the rest of his game is pretty solid.

The efficiency of a few guys on this team are down. So some of it may be system, fit and other coaching issues. I’d stay with him. He’s not old. Some guys develop a shot later. It’s not like he’s expensive.

And two of the teams are just ahead of the Knicks. 3 in a row. 5-5 last 10. 12-18 under Miller.

I get bringing RJ off of the bench in his 1st game back, but why has no one paired Ntilikina & DSJ when they were available? Couldn’t Dot or Trier have started? Or Knox? I’m not complaining, because Miller’s plan worked, but I don’t think playing Ntilikina & Payton together is a good idea.

I loved Mook’s grit, but I like this team better without him. It opens up so much for other guys to build on. Take Randle for instance. He played so much more..free tonight. That was probably the Randle we thought we might see. If that’s his base level production, I think we’d all take that.

The next step is building that chemistry with he and Mitch. Nothing to lose the rest of the way, so Miller might as well throw Mitch in there and run with a rotation of Mitch/Randle/RJ/Bullock/Payton followed by Portis/Taj/Knox/Ntilikina/ DSJ with Wooten & Trier available as the last 2. Stick with it and let them develop. Would have been nice to find a home for Portis so Wooten could get some regular reps, but I think that 10 man rotation is fair

On the bottom right (when using mobile device) there is an up arrow that automatically takes you to the top of the thread. Seems like if you could make that a down arrow that would be a lot cooler for when threads get long.

This no tall people Rockets team is fascinating.

Also you can use that little button at the bottom right to put the page into night mode (right mode)

Oh yeah, I always use here on mobile, sorry guys.

I think Morris leaving could potentially help Randle, as much as I’ve been disappointed in him, I think he should be given more chances. He’s producing at the same level as last season in everything, but his ts% is down by .080, after two years at .600… this is too large of a drop for a guy who hasn’t had a serious injury. He’s had a pretty good game today, I hope he figures it out because he could have value, either as a piece or an asset in the next season.
