This team really has me miffed. This really isn’t hard. The team is very young and sucks very hard. It is a developmental year …. soooo…. develop the young players. Nobody gives a flying F$%# how many games they win.

Play M Rob as many minutes as he can eat. Play Knox as many minutes as he can stand as long as he is playing hard. He is going to play dumb a lot of the time, but coach him up and give him reps. Maybe he is a player or maybe he isn’t but it would be nice to have some clear idea if there is anything there and if he is horrible, great for the tank.

With Frank, tell him he plays the first and last 8 minutes each half for 32 a game so he can stop looking over his shoulder worrying about making mistakes. Tell him the only time he will get pulled is if he passes up clear and open looks or doesn’t play hard. He is by far the best defender on the team and has earned this respect.

In poker there is a saying that weak-tight players are MUBsy (looking for monsters under the bed) and Frank looks that way and he can’t play that way. Give him a set of parameters and let him work through them.

Tell Kanter’s agent to find a club with an expiring and a second if he thinks he is so valuable and we’ll be happy to accommodate him and if he can’t STFU and sit down until the trade deadline when we’ll release him for the club of his choice. Playing Kanter a single minute tells everyone we don’t give a shit about defense.

If Hardaway is movable for anything and an expiring, God bless.

And how about Fizdale installing a non iso-zo offence? And please God stop yo-yoing these kids in and out of the line-ups. Play the young guys with a potential future here steady minutes in steady roles. This really isn’t Boolean Algebra.

Kanter really is a test for the stat types. He’s like a turbocharged David Lee. I don’t think he is worthless but as I said last night, it’s hard to believe how bad he is on defense sometimes. I think it might be a toss up on D between him and Bargnani which is crazy when you see the athleticism (second jump especially) he displays on the offensive end. I don’t really get it with him. He seems to have the physical tools.

At the end of the day, I’d rather have the Accumulator than Melo. Fun guy too. But yeah, he’s a real mystery…

Kanter is more of a “most liked teammate” than a leader. You can’t lead a team if you’re getting torched in the pick and roll every single time because then you just look like a hypocrite.

Kanter’s plus minus for this particular game was pretty good (-4 in 38 minutes). I think this reflects the reality that his offense was better than usual and his defense less bad than usual. He had three assists and a block to go with his points and rebounds. That was the most assists on the team. Fizdale gave him a lot of minutes, so he seemed to think he was playing well too.

One shot in 22 minutes for Frank. Something is wrong. Meanwhile he lead the team in +/- with a plus 10.

Weird…

It’s not a coincidence that Orlando’s momentum slowed and the score got close when Fizdale put Frank (and to a lesser extent Dotson) in the game. His offense is a catastrophe at the moment, whether you want to blame shoulder injuries, confidence or whatever, but he had a very clear defensive impact on things last night.

It’s a hard concept to grasp, but they keep score for the other team as well. The team that gives up the least points wins just as many games as the team that scores the most.

He’s been other places. They had the same view of him that we do. One of his former teammates was outright mocking his defense the other game against OKC.
