Yeah, the start of the 2010-11 season was definitely the high point for Team Optimism. Then the Melo trade happened and, well, you know.

I have no buyers remorse on Fizdale, who’s been wonderful. But watching the diverse and free flowing Bucks offense had me playing what if. If we had hired Bud, would our team have more ball movement? Or would he have recognized, as Fiz seems to have, that this is a roster full of limited players, and the better scorers aren’t naturally inclined to pass? The talent gap is pretty wide so far, and we’ve been able to compete thanks to (as someone on P&T put it) bursts of defensive intensity and bad shots going in.

I guess it depends on whether Fizdale thinks we are starting badly because we lack defense or we lack offense.

Frank and Lance have both been horrific on the offensive end. Having them both out there is not a recipe for success against a good offensive team. I would start one of Dotson, Trier or Hezonja and bring one of Lance or Frank off the bench.

Fiz says he might make changes to the starting lineup after the Miami game, to address how we always begin Gabe’s in a hole. If Knox were healthy, swapping him in for Lance would be a gimme. Since he’s not, what’s the solution? Vonleh starts at the 4? (Or the 5?) Dotson at the 3? Frank at the 1 (despite last night’s timidity) and make Burke the sixth man?

Remember recent seasons when the Knicks were, like, 17-13 or whatever, but they were clearly hot garbage?

This is essentially the total opposite of that. They are 1-3 and yet I haven’t felt this good about the team since 2012-13. And even then, I knew it was probably going to be a short-lived success, so I guess this is the best I’ve felt about the team since 2011-12.

I’m really glad that I didn’t place any O/U bets this year, except maybe the Lakers since I knew they were going to be hot flaming garbage. I wonder if LeBron will cut his losses and come up with a deal to tear up his contract when they win 38 and miss the playoffs.
