It appears the only people that can get in the way of legendary GM’s Darryl Morey and Sam Presti are their ownership groups. As a Mets fan, I don’t think there’s anything much worse than cheap ownership.

Houston’s new ownership seems much more money conscious than the previous one. It sure does suck seeing the one team with a serious shot at dethroning the Warriors make a bunch of penny pinching moves.

Maybe they figure they can get more out of Chriss (I’ve always thought he has some tools and he’s still very young FWIW), but at the end of the day they likely dumped Melton to save some money. Sucks.

Guys, guys, guys: Very unlikely Morey is done dealing. He got rid of Anderson, who is unplayable in the playoffs, and bought low on Brandon and, to a lesser extent, Chriss. If either or both prove useful, great. If not, he hasn’t done any harm to his chances this year (which is all he really cares about, anyway).

I can see OKC being the second best team in the West … after that I’d go with Houston lakers Utah New Orleans they’re all on that third tier.

That Houston team is going to be wack. Well, they’ll still be very good, but they could have been so much more. It’s like they have all the chrome and leather but forgot to get the nuts and bolts and are just trying to hold everything together with chewing gum.

I think it depends on every case, but not every front office seems very connected to their coaching staff. It’s weird to say it but that’s what it looks like in Houston. My presumption is that Morey understands that D’Antoni likes a very short rotation, and that 8 man rotation is already set (Paul, Harden, Tucker, Melo, Capela, Gordon, Nene, Green and maybe Ennis). Then Morey is just swinging for the fences with flawed guys with some upside like MCW, Chriss, Knight, Caboclo etc to see if something comes out of those 9-13 slots, as those guys aren’t likely to get minutes anyway unless injuries happen.

It’s just weird that all of them seem to fit D’Antoni’s system so horribly, as I assume he would prefer better shooters that can help with injuries.

Another thing to take into consideration is that so many teams have realized the buyout period in March is a further opportunity to make your team better, so there’s also that. But I think Houston simply got worse and I really can’t understand many of those moves.

DRed, I agree 100%. We just did it with Mudiay (trade for him thinking we have a chance making him good). I don’t know why it is though. Maybe most GMs thinks their pick for coach is much better than everyone else’s? Or maybe it’s just that the grass is always greener on the other side.

One of my gut theories is that NBA teams are far too optimistic about their own ability to fix shitty players.

Anythony Bennett played on four different NBA teams in four years, three of them obnoxiously bad franchises (including Cleveland). Surprised he didn’t go 8 for 8. He’s only 25.
