Kanter played really well last season and he’s in his prime. Now, he is bad enough on defense that he’s probably not a huge positive if he plays as well as he did for the Knicks last year, but he’s not a bum. Teams could use a guy like Enes and his contract is done a the end of the season-I think we should be able to move him for an asset if he plays as well as he did last year.

Yeah, it's just very difficult for me to believe that teams looking to buy at the deadline will refuse to surrender a second round pick or two for a guy who can legitimately anchor a bench unit. It's not like every team he's ever been on was resigned to defensive mediocrity (OKC was 10th in overall DRtg his last season there).

Finding a team that fits well contract-wise is more difficult (I wish we didn't necessarily have to take back all expirings), but the Clippers, Memphis, Indiana, and Dallas all come to mind as teams that could make that work and all have an interest in competing this season.

Rest in peace John McCain. I didn't agree with s lot of his politics but as a Libertarian minded person I can respect anyone that stands up for their values to a certain point. He wasn't right a lot in my opinion, but he wasn't a complete fuck up.

Unfortunately nowadays that's probably the best we can do for politicians.

RIP McCain. I walked into the voting booth in November 2007 and made the decision to vote for Obama over McCain there. A decade later, I am happy with that decision. McCain lost my vote because he picked an idiot for a running mate. I disagreed with many of his positions (I am a dove) but I never doubted his integrity and he would have made a good president. I am truly saddened by his passing.

The crystal ball for this upcoming season is hazy. I can see a complete tank at one end of the spectrum and I also can see the melding of a couple of good draft picks with a bunch of suddenly maturing kids who are coming into their own that surprise us. I can see us holding on to our veterans and starting them, and I can see us selling them off for picks and cap space.

At least with John McCain I hav fond memories of Ellen wrecking him on the LGBT marriage issues, and he kinda got better in the end of his life, so there’s that.

The issue with trying to trade Kanter is that his value as a rental is very low, unless the team is simultaneously looking for a Center with his skill set + the cap relief and at the same time has anything the Knicks would want to offer. It’s probably impossible to find such a situation, maybe Milwaukee if Lopez doesn’t work out but their only expiring contract is Bledsoe who we should not want, so it’s a tough situation either way. I’d rather just leave him there and let him expire than take on longer contracts on bad players.

To trade Kanter, you need to find a playoff team with a big need at C, with totally worthless players with expiring contracts in the $18M total range. I don't see anything that looks even close to that. I see guys with 2 years left, but why on earth would we do that? What are we going to get back to make Deng, Ryan Anderson or Chandler Parsons worth that....plus 2 of those teams have centers.

But.....what about Deng for Noah? If we let him prove he's healthy in pre-season, what else would LA give us to make that work? And, if it's only a few 2nds, who cares?

8-10 years ago John McCain being remembered as anything other than a hard-right ultra hawk would've been unfathomable, but times have changed and he deserves some credit for spending the last few months of his life needling Donald Trump.
