Honestly, I have very mixed feelings about Kanter. When he played without KP, we were terrible and when he played with him we were much better. We want to be terrible until KP comes back and then be good, so that kind of fits. And, he is a very likable player. So Enes, I hope whatever happens in works out well for you.

This was a cool read – I didn’t know very much about the circumstances of our acquisition of Willis Reed, and it’s awesome to learn of a distant past where the Knicks didn’t suck so bad.

The key part of that era, though, is that the Knicks actually made it a point TO suck really bad, enough that they got high draft picks in a bunch of drafts and built their championship team from them!

As far as Kanter trades, Kanter and Lance Thomas for Mahinmi and Tomas Satoranksy works in the trade machine. Satoransky is already 26, but he was new to the league last year and was a reasonably productive player with a fine shot and some passing chops, so we would do well to get him if Washington is truly win-now. It doesn't seem like they're incredibly attached to him with the Austin Rivers trade (and he barely played in their series with Toronto), so maybe we could nab him from Washington. They might be dumb enough to value Lance Thomas' literally immeasurable contributions to team basketball more than a reasonably skilled, youngish player on a cheap contract. Maybe we can throw in legendary practice star Luke Kornet if they feel like they need another big man out of the deal.

We could actually trade Kanter for Matthews straight up, but I am not sure Dallas would be willing to lose him, and then we get another shooting guard, which is not what we need. The Knicks of the past would try for Matthews, which I think is why Nicos thinks it possible; but, honestly, I rather have Kanter for another year and see what our kids can do at shooting guard and small forward.

How about a 3 way deal where Kanter goes to LAC, DJ and Courtney Lee go to Dallas, and Wesley Matthews goes to New York? DSJr, Lee, Doncic, Dirk, and DJ sounds like a fun team to watch, we get rid of Lee’s contract for 2019, and LAC gets a guy who’s 8 years younger than Gortat for a guy they were gonna lose anyway.

Excellent question. For Washington, we would have to get picks to compensate for taking Mahinmi. They are way over the cap and can't just sign him. I wouldn't do it if I were them, but it seems like a typical Win Now Grunfeld move. Milwaukee and Dallas are also over the cap and the tax line, and I don't know how they would do it.
