I'm all good with Robinson. We don't have much to go on statistically except for those EYBL stats apparently, and also apparently EYBL stats are semi-ok for projecting forward. But 20 rebounds per 40 (8 offensive) sounds good. Also doing some quick math on the only stats I can find (15.2 points, 11.6 rebounds, 4.1 blocks per game in EYBL), if 11.6 rebounds/game -> 20 rebounds/40, that means he averaged 7.1 blocks per 40. That feels good to me, especially when that is many more blocks than Jaren Jackson and Mo Bamba had in EYBL. Those numbers might even make Jowles happy.

Sounds a little like he got screwed by NCAA rules and just flailed around before dropping out of Western Kentucky, and I read something somewhere that the G-league wouldn't let him in either because he had been enrolled in a college already? or something like that?

Aha here it is, from theStepien:

On January 11th, 2018, ESPN’s Jonathan Givony reported that the G-League had been denying eligibility to some of the top prospects in the draft based on a set of little known rules that don’t allow players enrolled in a university to play in the league within the same academic year. Some basketball executives that Givony spoke to “went so far as to question whether the NBA is colluding with the NCAA.” It’s certainly a rule that makes very little sense and runs somewhat concurrent with the theory that the NBA and NCAA are very much in-line with each other’s motives and work to further their own interests, rather than those of the players and “student-athletes” that earn most of their capital. It became instantly obvious why Robinson was never able to join the G-League, despite it being an option that seemed to make plenty of sense.

Anyway, we were all a little intrigued by Bamba + KP - should prob feel the same about Robinson + KP.

Physically, Robinson is right up there with Ayton, Bamba and JJJ snd superior to Carter. I don't know what's between the ears or in the chest, but physically he has the whole package and could be a force on both ends. I'd rather have him than the guy the Celts picked...

I think you're wrong. My guess is that he will be at least a rotation player, and possibly much better than that. As I said yesterday, I put him in the same category as Ntilikina, a very young project with upside but with serious, glaring issues that must be addressed...but the physical profile and shooting alone will keep him in the league. He wouldn't have been my pick (if I wanted to go for an upside pick, I would probably have gone for Walker (lol); if looking to play it safe, probably Mikal) but whatever. If he develops in line with his current profile, the guy I see him most resembling is Rudy Gay, and that's not a good thing but not a bust either. But at 18 years old, who knows?

Overall, I'm happy with the draft for the Knicks. Robinson was a steal at 36, so that bumps the grade up a bit. Clearly we're in full, too to bottom development mode. I hope the coaches are up to it because Knox and Robinson have plenty of work for them lol. Now is as good a time as any to focus on development with KP out, and we picked 2 young, raw, and extremely talented players. So..I like it. I don't love it, but I can't say it's a bad haul either- especially with adding Trier afterwards. This is one of those drafts where we as fans need to understand and trust the vision. We were never in a position to get a franchise altering talent without taking something bad back- even though I would have thought long and hard about a trade with Memphis for Bamba.

I expect the team to look good in Summer League, but we all know we can't trust that. I can't wait to see the kids in preseason. I think we have an interesting mix of youth to throw in the fire of preseason. Hopefully Kanter opts out and we re-sign KOQ.

Now..what happens with Lee?
