Put another way, when we lost KP we went from an average defense to worst in the league. And that’s factorial.

Put another another way, when we have more minutes to Kanter, Beasley, Mudiay and Burke our defense was awful.

KP is certainly a valuable defender, but probably not single handedly makes your defense league average good

Given the uncertainty inherent in any draftee I’d want more than just the 1st for KP, and I think we’d be able to get more. I’d be open to moving him, but I think there’s zero chance the Knicks do. He’s too popular with the fans for that trade to be a good career move for Mills and Perry unless the haul was ridiculous.

KP and the 9Th for Doncic, idk that’s a lot. Maybe the 9th and take back their 16th

Porzingis is pretty much going to be over analyzed because well, he’s the only player in quite some time that we can be hopeful about. He’s a very good rim protector who is a talented yet not very productive offensive player, that’s pretty much it.

I’ve been on record saying I would trade him for Doncic and that’s specially because I still think this team should be fully rebuilding and not retooling, and exchanging Porzingis soon to be max deal for Doncic’s rookie deal helps in that regard. If we could do it while keeping the 9th pick somehow (and future picks) it’s a no brainer, and I would still think carefully about it even if it was KP + the 9th, because for me Doncic is the best player in this draft and a superstar in the making. If he simply plays as expected he’ll probably be at least as productive as KP in the same age and without the injury worries.

If the Clippers are serious about trading up to get Porter that would make me more interested in him also given that Jerry West is advising over there now. It’s just hard to be sure what is true and what is a smokescreen.

I like the idea of drafting Michael Porter Jr a lot, but I probably wouldn’t trade up for him unless I knew his back was 100% and that I could sit him for a year and Adam Silver wouldn’t be too upset.

I agree about being skeptical towards KP overall ability to overcome his clear deficiencies, particularly after his injury. But I also have some reserves about Doncic. He did fill out in a very problematic way and you wonder if he’s going to take training seriously at the NBA playing a wing position where athleticism and lateral quickness are essential. It’s a quandry because when I look at him I see a James Hardenesque player, but I do wonder about his ethic.

As for KP, you guys are such homers when it comes to him. He’s a great rim defender, but overall, a pretty average player so far. Yes, he’s 22 – young, but not that young – and now he has a torn ACL. I just think he’s not untouchable for the right offer, that’s all.

This forum is probably the most level-headed group of Knicks fans when it comes to KP. By and large, we’re all pretty aware that his production hasn’t matched the hype.

If he were healthy, I think most of us would cash in on him now instead of paying him next year. I actually feel bad about killing Phil Jackson last year, because it turns out he was right to try to extract a haul for him before he got hurt.

You can’t trade him now, though, for 50 cents on the dollar.
