  1. “I think she was a midget, Mike. I don’t think she was 7”

They should put Clyde in the hall of fame twice

  2. At least both teams are on a back to back tonight. Should be a lot of ugly basketball to be had.

  3. So that last play Melo got fouled but when he’s massacred from behind the play before it’s nothing… Okay.

  4. Kris needs to work on going up strong immediately when he has position like that. No need to dribble there son

  5. The Bucks are basically throwing the kitchen sink at us but we’re only down 4. Good sign if the Knicks can tighten up the D a bit.

  6. I’m very close to turning this game off. Pretty pathetic effort so far by the Knicks vs an awful Bucks team.

  7. Smh. Not our night tonight. Refs have been the worst tonight and it’s gotten to the team. They need to be tougher than this.

  8. Luckily for us the Bucks aren’t a really good team either and our second unit looks like they can shit again suddenly.

  9. I’m convinced, Lance Thomas did some Space Jam over the summer and stole another player’s talent.

  10. We don’t have the look tonight. Plenty of opportunities to get back in this one and they’re letting all of them pass by.

  11. Bucks have flexed their athleticism. But you can’t keep allowing MCW into the paint.

  12. The Bucks have defended Anthony well… they were helped a bit by the refs earlier in the game, but still.

  13. You know the refs were bad when Mike Breen calls them “uneven.” He almost never criticizes the refs. The Knicks didn’t play well, but I get their frustration. And Calderone was absolutely right on the call that set him off. That was definitely offensive interference.

  14. Also, the Bucks are better than their current record. They may not be as good as they played tonight, but they are definitely a deep, athletic, playoff-caliber team when everyone is healthy. I expect that they will go on a nice run soon.

  15. Maybe the Knicks should send Gallo down to Westchester for a game or two and see if he can get back his shot. He’s 10 for 51 over his last 7 games- even Sasha could put up better numbers than that. He’s still the best backcourt defender on the team but he’s nowhere near good enough defensively (or a good enough playmaker on O) to make up for such awful shooting.

  16. I think that if you sent Gallo down to the D-league you would destroy his confidence or hurt his attitude. He’s gonna have to shoot through the slump against NBA players to get his shot back in the NBA–might as well let him have at it.

What’s amazing is that Galloway, with his .336 TS% in the month of December, is STILL shooting better than Vuj (.316 TS%).

  17. 1. Refs were atrocious. And its not the first time. Its such a pattern that I’m wondering, are we doing anything to set them off?

    2. Melo chose not to pass to open players, especially KP, more than a few times. Its abominable.

    3. Lance et al deserves a much longer run when they were responsible for bringing us back into the game. Great penetration, free throws, etc.

    4. Did O’Quinn sleep with Fisher’s mother or something?

    5. Grant is gonna continue to be useless until he can hit open 3’s, defend, and drive with any sort of control.

    6. Zinger is really, really good out there.

  18. 1. Refs were atrocious. And its not the first time. Its such a pattern that I’m wondering, are we doing anything to set them off?

I think that, since we’re one of the most foul-happy teams in the league (at 29th or 30th I think), the potential for more bad calls goes up just by virtue of how much we foul. So it’s more bad calls on a raw basis compared to other teams, but I suspect that it’s approximately proportional to the amount of bad calls that other teams get. This game was an officiating atrocity, though.

    5. Grant is gonna continue to be useless until he can hit open 3’s, defend, and drive with any sort of control.

I wouldn’t call him useless–he was +5 on the game, penetrated well, and had 7 points on 6 shots, which isn’t great, but it’s fine, especially compared to the shooting and on/off performance of some of the players in the first unit. His defense wasn’t great, but everyone played pretty horrible defense tonight. He’s far from useless–I’d say he’s at least a replacement level guard, if not slightly better than replacement. That’s fine for the first year, and it’s far, far, far, far better than playing Vuj any minutes whatsoever. Of course, we’d like to see him improve a bit–but over the past few games his shooting numbers have improved a fair amount, so hopefully he’s trending in the right direction.

  19. What’s amazing is that Galloway, with his .336 TS% in the month of December

It’s December fucking fifth. What’s amazing is you think that’s a useful sample.

Gallo has shot terribly, but if he plays well otherwise he’s not going to kill you because he doesn’t shoot much anyhow. Tonight he was 1-5, with 4 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and 0 turnovers. That’s actually decent, and y’all are going to send him to the dleague? Are you high? Who do you want to play those minutes?

  20. Im not saying anything about Galloway I was just responding to nicos who said that Vuj could do a better job.

It wasn’t meant as a critique of Gallo it was meant to show just how horrible Vuj is when Galloway at his worst possible TS% sample still has better shooting numbers. It wasn’t meant to be a “real” sample–just an attempt to compare Gallo at his shooting worst to show how bad Vuj is.

I still want Gallo playing more minutes than pretty much every other guard. And I agree about the D-league, there’s no good reason to send him there, especially if it’s only to “find his shot”.

  21. Didn’t mean Grant was literally useless. More that his path for improvement is along those lines. I’d actually put him above Calderon and below Galloway. He is likely to be a decent starter in a year or two.

  22. I’m not suggesting banishing him forever- just a game or two where he can actually get up a number of shots up and (hopefully) see them go through the basket. Tough to shoot your way out of a slump when you don’t shoot much to begin with. In the last 12 games going into tonight his TS% was .407 with a rebound rate of 6.6 and an assist rate of 12.6. That’s still better than Sasha but not by much- I’d rather play Sasha 5-10 minutes for a game or two if it’d help Gallo get a little confidence back.

  23. Galloway’s shots and shooting percentage has fallen off since Afflalo came back from injury. And Afflalo passes less than even Melo if that’s possible. Melo has been simply horrid this year and might be washed up. Lopez is average at best. Calderon bad. Again, Afflalo another ball hog. Seraphin atrocious. Williams poor. Maybe we need to be realistic about this team and trade most of these guys to improve our future. KP and Grant and Galloway are what’s important for our future. The rest should be moved.

  24. @95

Really? Because to me that sounds like a crazy overreaction to one loss. (Though obviously KP Grant and Gallo are our future.)

  25. I mean I’m usually pretty negative on Melo but there’s pretty much no way he’s been “simply horrid”. His shooting numbers and usage are down, his raw assists numbers are up, and his defense has been way, way better. Idk how that qualifies as horrid. He’s currently sitting at about .144 WS/48, which is about the average mark from his Denver days, and that metric likely doesn’t take proper account of his new and improved defense. He’s also shooting way below his mean, so we can reasonably expect his shooting to trend upward, even if it may not match his career average. He’s been a solidly above average player this year. Certainly not worth 24M, but solid. His late game decision making can still be pretty poor though.

Williams has been fine in limited minutes. Afflalo has been slightly below average and idk what to make of Calderon but at least his offense has been solid.

I’m all for trading away the players on this team and starting over but to call Melo horrid and Williams poor while also totally ignoring the recent improvement in Calderons game is pretty uncharitable.

  26. Didn’t watch the game but first thing I do is check KP’s minutes/line. Minutes OK and line was looking OK until 5 TOs. WTF? Mishaps Fourfingis?

Maybe we need to be realistic about this team and trade most of these guys to improve our future. KP and Grant and Galloway are what’s important for our future. The rest should be moved.

Have to agree. Ship Melo/Lopez this summer to LA in exchange for their top 3 pick/Russell/Clarkson. Check this out: Zinger/Clarkson/Grant/Russell/Gallo/Hernangomez/Laker pick. That’s 7 cheap guys under 25yo and 70m of free cap. We’ve executed the Hinkie plan in 2 years! Jeannie will make it happen so she won’t feel guilty when she dumps Phil as he’s placed in a nursing home. And Lala will make sure Melo OKs that trade.

Maybe the Knicks should send Gallo down to Westchester for a game or two

Interesting suggestion. Before that, I’d start KOQ and play a second unit of Grant/Gallo/Lopez/DWill/Lance. Lopez picks will allow Grant to operate and get Gallo and Dwill open looks in a flowing offense. In fact, that PnR based second unit will be much better than the starters. Gallo’s problems coincided with Fish benching KOQ and mucking up the flow of that second unit.

  27. I think Melo has actually played pretty well with this new surrounding cast. But I still can’t shake the feeling that he’s not fully bought in. There is something just phoney about Melo. His comments over the summer about “taking Porzingis under my wing” came across to me as a vague smile-laden threat to the young stud. And now he seems to embrace it all. But I get the sense that it’s not genuine, and at the first sign of a prolonged losing skid he’ll throw everyone under the bus.

I wouldn’t be sad to see us go 41-41 this year, have Melo realize his chance at a championship will not happen here before the Warriors Dynasty ends, bid him adieu, and rebuild around a new triangle of Zing-Gallo-Grant.

  28. Ship Melo/Lopez this summer to LA in exchange for their top 3 pick/Russell/Clarkson.

Maybe we could make it a three team deal and get Steph Curry from GSW!

In all seriousness, the story of the game was the 5 fouls on Kris Crossover. HE makes Melo change his game. Once he’s out it’s hero ball city and like years past if Melo is <.500 FG% we lose.

Both me and my son were screaming at the TV for Fisher to sub for Seraphim but he actually had a decent game according to the box score. Still, I don't see why we're playing Rolo for 21 minutes and "le Triangle" for 24.

  29. Can you imagine if Kris actually got a crossover. I think it could happen. His handle needs to improve. It feels funny writing that about a guy who is 7-3 but he does drive both right and left.

  30. This board has devolved into game to game knee jerk. It’s truly amazing.

Knicks win = KP is GOD yay future

Knicks lose = Traid everyone except Grant Galloway and KP……and of course the obligatory shots at the “phoney” one himself Me70

    @98 yep
@100 you sound like a scorned side chick
    @104 ok?
    @105 I agree

Shit like this is why good sports talk shows do not take calls.

  32. This board has devolved into game to game knee jerk

Devolved? Knee jerk reactions are a big part of what we do

  33. Shit like this is why good sports talk shows do not take calls.

You’re as clueless about the Lakers as you are about Melo. They are not interested in rebuilding; they want a star and starters. They’ve said as much. They were trying to trade #2 pick for Boogie last season. Jim Buss has announced he’ll put a credible team on the court in 2 years or he’ll step down. This summer they’ll target Durant, Whiteside and Conley but if they strike out there are slim pickins after that. They make the trade I mentioned and they have Melo/Lopez/Randle/Williams and plenty of cap left in 2016 and more in 2017. Melo has the star power Lakers are looking for. Now they wouldn’t trade a #1 pick (Simmons) but after that in a weak draft yeah they’ll shop the pick just like last summer. Maybe they’ll receive a better offer than Melo/Lopez but it’s unlikely to include a player like Melo who creates fan interest. It’s bizarre you think so much of Melo but apparently also believe no GM shares your view.

  34. I mean, sure, the Lakers would be willing to trade some serious assets to get Melo…but is any team that dumb to trade a top 3 pick, a former #2 pick, and a young up-and-coming guard for Melo? I could see two out of three, but even that’s a stretch. I’m not even sure how you would make the salaries work unless you sign and traded Clarkson and threw in Hibbert or something.

What I’m saying is that giving away that many assets would be among the worst trades of all time and I don’t think that even the people who signed a 35 year old Kobe to a max contract are that dumb.

But hey, if Buss really is that dumb, Phil should pick up that phone quick.

  35. They would be receiving Melo AND Lopez. And it’s not exactly looking like Lakers think that much of Russell. The trade would take place this summer since Lakers need to tank to keep protected #1-3 pick and would have more than enough cap space to take Melo and Lopez (Kobe and Hibbert). Clarkson would be a S&T.

  36. Guys, we are not going to kick making knee-jerk reactions to the curb.

The sooner this is officially Treetops’ team the better….

  37. It’s bizarre you think so much of Melo but apparently also believe no GM shares your view.

Nah. You are wrong. I think so much of Melo relative to the opinions on this board.

That’s just a dumb trade. Why would anyone do that? Clarkson looks very good. And Russell is a rookie. Melo is 31 with a bad wheel.

  38. Melo ain’t going anywhere b/c NTC, and certainly not to the scrub Lakers, where he has zero chance of winning a chip before he’s an old man. It’s highly doubtful that the Lakers would want him anyway. Why are we even entertaining this?

  39. It’s obvious none of you guys are in business. The Lakers have had a star on the team for the last 40 years: Wilt, West, Kareem, Magic, Kobe, Shaq. So tell me their lineup next year which is gonna want make fans watch presuming they don’t sign Durant? I’m waiting….hello….. They’ve already indicated that they’re willing to trade their picks and young players. So tell me a trade that puts a star on the floor and makes them relevant after Kobe retires…I’m waiting…hello….

Regarding Melo’s NTC, he’s got a home in LA. which also happens to be the best location for his wife’s career. If the Knicks decide they’re gonna take their time in building a team because of KP’s age instead of grabbing any free agent or geriactric player to suit Melo’s timeframe, there wouldn’t be much difference between LA and NY. In fact, LA might be more attractive because Buss is more likely to go all in on free agents.

  40. I’m not saying trading Melo to L.A. isn’t a possibility so much as I’m saying we definitely (i.e. I would bet a LOT of money on it) can’t get all three of Clarkson, Russell/Randle, and the top 3 pick.

It’s conceivable that if we were set on developing around Porzingis rather than pussyfooting around the 4th-8th seed in the EC over the duration of Melo’s contract Melo would want to go to L.A. They have sucked but they’re going to have lots of cap space come next season and Buss could sell Melo on making one final championship push. If Melo wants a chip, and Phil makes it clear that he’s going to take it slower, it’d be in Melo’s best interests to head to L.A.

Now I doubt that’ll happen, but it’s an open possibility.

On the Miami trade Z-Man listed: I would hope that we would at least be able to pry Tyler Johnson away from the Heat, if not Winslow (though Lowe said Riley would hang up the phone…)

But seriously, fuck that NTC–it might have been the worst move of Phil’s otherwise pretty good tenure.

  41. @Z-man You really don’t understand Melo after all these years. Melo’s not living in Houston. Other than Butler Chicago’s got nuttin’. Miami and LA are the only possibilities. Melo to LA for Clarkson and Russell. That’s a deal both teams should make (taking into consideration Buss’ 2-year plan).

“I’m not saying trading Melo to L.A. isn’t a possibility so much as I’m saying we definitely (i.e. I would bet a LOT of money on it) can’t get all three of Clarkson, Russell/Randle, and the top 3 pick.”

Again the deal is Melo AND Lopez.

  42. Melo (26m)
    Lopez (13m)
    Lou Williams (7m)
    Bass (3m)
    Randle (3m)
    ——————
    Total (52m)

There’s no cap hold for the pick because they traded it to us. If the cap is 80m, they’d have about 25m to spend this summer after the trade. What’s not to like if you’re Buss and have a 2-year plan to make Lakers relevant? Note: we might have to take Swaggy P in the deal.

  43. As much as I would love to add D’Angelo Russell to the Knicks, there is absolutely no way Carmelo Anthony accepts a trade to the Los Angeles Lakers. They are the worst team in the Western Conference, and trading your best players for Carmelo Anthony gets you 27 wins. There is no conceivable perfect storm of events that lands Carmelo Anthony in a Lakers jersey.

Face it. Carmelo Anthony is going to retire a New York Knick and there’s nothing your forum trades can do about it. Robin Lopez, however, will probably be traded at the deadline or in the off season.

  44. @121 Melo showed tons of interest in Houston and might have signed there if Knicks let him walk. Chicago has an 11-6 record with nuttin’ but Butler.

But yeah, OK, Melo would accept a trade to a team that has zero chance of being a contender during his contract. Right.

  45. @121 Melo showed tons of interest in Houston and might have signed there if Knicks let him walk.

You’re delusional if you believe Melo and his wife would ever live in Houston. That was an ego “trip”.

Chicago has an 11-6 record with nuttin’ but Butler.

Rose is done. Pau’s opting out and would be 36yo even if he opted in. That’s a team on the decline and Melo’s not gonna relocate to Chicago unless there’s a really good chance of winning a chip there.

Melo would accept a trade to a team that has zero chance of being a contender during his contract. Right.

I don’t know what you mean by “contender” but a roster of Melo/Lopez/Williams/Randle/Bass and possibility Horford or Conley isn’t that bad. Or perhaps Lakers make a play for Westbrook the following summer. All paths to a chip over the next couple of years given Cavs and GSW/Spurs are long shots. Why wouldn’t he be fine living in a city that’s probably his and his wife’s first choice anyway and playing on a decent team while expanding all his other business ventures?

  46. It’s actually clearly not his wife or his first choice since one of the main reasons for staying as he cited was to keep his son in the same school system and their business ventures all exist in New York. My roommate works for Vice and says he pops in with some degree of frequency.

Additionally, the Lakers appear to be in disarray, they are currently 3-17, his buddy Kobe is washed and retiring. Russell has serious bust potential. Byron is not the answer at coach. Their pick this year is pretty likely to going to the sixers. I would put any amount of money you never see Melo in the purple and gold.

  47. It’s actually clearly not his wife or his first choice since one of the main reasons for staying as he cited was to keep his son in the same school system and their business ventures all exist in New York.

    The main reason was $30m.

Additionally, the Lakers appear to be in disarray, they are currently 3-17, his buddy Kobe is washed and retiring. Russell has serious bust potential.

Did you even bother to read what I wrote? The Lakers will have like 65m of cap. We’d be taking Russell and giving them Lopez. There’s more above if you care to spend the time.

  48. Funny how the person posting the most delusional trade propositions ever is calling others delusional. Your supercilious tone generally sucks.

  49. You are the one who had the condescending, dismissive tone when you said why are we even discussing this. I just matched your tone.
