2014-15 Game Thread: Knicks @ Thunder

Isn’t it just so perfectly Knicks that they get the Olakahoma City Thunder just as Russell Westbrook comes back? Plus, after trying to work out before the game, Melo is officially out for the game, so they get their star back just as the Knicks confirm that they will be without their star.

However, if the Melo-less Knicks could hang with a healthy Dallas team, they might be able to do well against a Thunder team that has been garbage without Westbrook. He might not be 100% tonight, also.

So there’s hope!

Let’s go Knicks!

  1. Westbrook is gonna force it tonight and since he’s been out of commission for so long, he’ll be rusty. I predict he’ll win the game for us.

  2. Broken hand. Haven’t played in a month. No KD.

This might be the one game where Fisher’s “They-can’t-possibly-hit-that-many-open-threes” defense just might work.

  3. The strategy of going 10 ft under the screen and daring Westbrook to shoot is not working. Actually it wouldnt work vs a high-school team let alone an NBA team.

  4. We really should just go into full tank mode.. So more lineups of Jason Smith, JR and Timmy in the game at same time pls

Whoever said that clearly has no idea what he is talking about.

  6. And as bad as we are, we still can’t do a better job at tanking than Philly, Detroit, and Charlotte. So all this mess to end up with the 7th/8th pick as we do every time we actually have our own pick.

  7. The killer part of it all is that Thomas is absolutely correct – the Knicks, for all of their awfulness, are only currently in a three-way tie for fifth (soon to be a tie with just one other team). And they’ll likely improve a bit, so this is just awful.

  8. Breen is talking like the Knicks aren’t still down 20. Did they cut it from the 35? If not, no reason to talk about “better effort this quarter.”

Well, they were on pace to be down 40 at the half. So, uhhh…cup half full I guess?

  10. Well, my revised plan for the Knicks is to 1) shut down Melo, 2) play competitively and 3) lose a lot of games and get a high pick.

They’re doing a good job with 1 and 3, 2 not so much

  11. Notice how Smith and Hardaway seem to think they can dribble their way to an open shot rather than using movement to get the defense of balance? They only pass after wasting 8 seconds trying to dribble around the defender. This doesn’t make the defense work that hard. Even if you beat the defender, which they can’t, you get past the guy so you can throw up a bad shot because Ibaka and Perkins are waiting for you.
It’s a bit of nonsense to me that they only drive when they don’t hit threes. When they can hit threes, they don’t bother to drive. If they mixed it up, both would be better.

    Wow. Just. Wow.

  12. No way earl doesn’t opt in.

Which is why I guarantee that Jackson is doing anything he can to trade Smith before this season ends.

  13. Agree with the comments above. It is excruciatingly frustrating to have to sit through this dumpster fire of a season and know they will likely get rewarded with no higher than the 6th or 7 th pick. Brutal. Oh and I think Westbrook is 100 % or close to it….

  14. We’ve lost 12 of the last 14 games and during that period moved UP in the standings. Fish has gotta do a better job at becoming a bottom feeder to salvage this season – lotto fever.

  15. unfortunately for westbrook, his performance tonight means little – just that he’s at least at jimmer-on-a-good-night level.

  16. Westbrook: 32 points, 12-17 (.71 FG%), 7 rebounds, 8 assists… in only 24 minutes of play.

That Knicks defense, give ’em half your game time, they’ll give you da world.

  17. Melo for Butler and Mirotic (if this is in any way doable with help from a third team – and I’m not sure it is doable.) Would Chicago do it, or have we missed our chance?
