2014-15 Game Thread: Knicks @ Raptors

I thought that there was a Knick day game today, so I didn’t do a thread yesterday and missed the Phoenix game. So I thought, “Oops, I guess I mixed the days up.” Obviously, I did not. That’s what we in the Knicks circle call “compounding a mistake” (like “Hey, we screwed up our chances to get Chris Paul, let’s also make sure that we can’t amnesty Stoudemire”).

The Knicks and Raptors go into halftime with the Knicks trailing 58-51.

Prigs has had a good game off of the bench so far.

  1. I don’t care if they win another game this season, I just want to develop our young guys (mainly just Cole and Early if he ever comes back).

  2. Man, Gallinari just can’t catch a break. Feels like Melo’s just a game away from a similar injury…and for what exactly? I get the Knicks aren’t open to tanking yet, but there’s nothing stopping them from trying to win without him for a while.

Hell, it’s not like they’re doing much winning with him.

  3. I have no idea why they are trying to win so badly either. At least it looks like Fisher is resting Cole to avoid injuries as the game is out of reach. Once again, Cole was our best big by far today and played the least minutes (besides ejected Dalembert).

  4. 28 points on 26 FG’s…we really couldn’t find literally anyone else to do that? So we play Melo another nearly 40 minutes on a bum knee in another loss.

I’ve been pretty consistent in my “Give Fish some time before we grab the pitchforks and storm the gates” stance…but I’m starting to come around on the rebellion.

  5. Yeah, it really isn’t that Cole is some world-beater. He’s just a decent center and a decent center means he’s the best center the Knicks have, and Fisher only plays him when he’s, like, forced to do it. It’s quite annoying.

  6. I missed the second half, so I will just assume Cole made 4 garbage buckets in the last 30 seconds against Toronto’s worst players.

Home for the holidays, and my Dad is fascinated with Cole Aldrich for some reason. Cheering everything he does. “Did you see that screen!?”

Cool Papa Lowe knows what fucking time it is.

  7. Man, Gallinari just can’t catch a break.

I think the issue is that that’s all he seems to catch. ;) And just when he seemed to be slowly getting back into game shape. It’s a real shame.

    Wrong.

    Wrong.

Cole barely cracked 20 minutes and led this sorry team in rebounds. He also didn’t miss a shot, Brian. From the floor or the line, because Cole is the perfect weapon. Do you know what that works out to, FG%-wise? 100, percent Brian. That’s the best percent there is.

  9. I didnt watch 1 minute of this game. Cant we just fast forward to the draft lottery??

I’d love if that were the case. That’s my biggest fear right now, that we can’t skip right to the draft, as I doubt this current really poor record will last, ya know?

  10. The Kings are considering a trade for Deron Williams. That seems very Knicksy of them. Maybe they fired their cosh because he didn’t want to make moves like that.

I think your fears are a tad unfounded. Worry not, if there’s any team in the league who can continue losing without intending too, it’s the Knicks.

You should be more concerned about when they finally decide to go full tank, that’s when they’ll go on a run. A roster of mostly end of bench guys playing for their lives (almost literally) with nothing to lose…that’s a dangerous team right there.

It actually was. Malone was against the deal that would have brought Josh Smith to Sacramento this summer. From there his relationship deteriorated with management. (They never could get over him saying “Josh Smith?! Are you guys fucking insane?!”)

  13. The thing that always gets me is that Cole was a lottery pick! It’d be one thing if he was undrafted, but he was taken in the lottery and yet he is treated like he just walked on to the court.

  14. Yeah, but can he do it when it’s not during garbage time? And against the best team in the conference? Can he do it then, guys?

  15. Would the league object if we just forfeited our last 52 games? I would definitely sign up for a 5-77 record.

  16. Where can one find college WP40 numbers? Stanley Johnson must just be killing it in WP40– he’s scoring at high efficiency and also stuffing the box score with loads of rebounds, assists and steals. Rarely takes bad shots, mostly shoots 3s and at the rim, and is a major impact defender. Known as a high IQ, high intangibles player, built like a tank at 6’7″, 250 with a long 6’11” wingspan. This guy looks like a future franchise player to me. The knock on Johnson coming out of high school was that his jumper was erratic, but he’s shooting .429 from 3PT so far. An obvious comp for Johnson is Kawhi Leonard, except that Kawhi was not really an efficient scorer in college. Johnson is up near a .600 TS% for Arizona this season.

  17. Meanwhile, Anthony Davis with 38pts on 22FG.

Too bad you have to watch Tyreke Evans chuck step-back, contested- mid-range jumpers after he dribbles away the shot clock for 15 seconds in order to watch AD.

  18. I have no idea why they are trying to win so badly either.

PJ wants to prove that the system works so players want to come here. In fact, he’s getting concerned that they won’t because of how the knicks are sucking.

  19. Feel terrible for Gallo. He had a payday but just some really crappy luck.

Draftexpress has ws/40 numbers under stats and then usage. The WOW numbers come out postseason. They massage those things more than Kobe beef to adjust for age, sos, etc…

Not seeing okafor near top of the win shares rankings. Kennedy Meeks jumps out as does Myles Turner, willie Cayley stein, and a few other major program guys.

I am going to stake my claim now on the draft. Screw mudiay, screw Okafor.

Montrezl Harrell has to be a New York Knick. The perfect cross of Oakley and Ben Wallace. The one player who can bring all the people who grew up watching the Riley/JVG Knicks back to the garden.

Make this happen Phil. Aldrich and Harrell, 2016
