2008 Thread: Knicks at Bulls 1/8/2007

Here is a discussion thread, for those folks still willing to suffer through Knicks’ games.

Drown your sorrows here, fellas!

By the by, has anyone else noticed that the Knicks aren’t even being DISCUSSED really anymore? They’re simply used as a punchline. For other bad teams, columnists make suggestions and stuff like that – for the Knicks, it is basically, “Yeah, they’re just totally screwed.”

  1. I’ve been seeing a bunch of commentary that talks about the terrible preparation and complete lack of coaching by the Knicks’ staff.

Latest was in either the Daily News or Post that described the on court scene before the Spurs game. The Spurs had a bunch of coaches on the floor directing various activity. The Knicks coaches were nowhere to be found and the players were doing whatever they wanted. My characterization of a piece I read by what the hell.

Have read that there is no game preparation. No in-game adjustments. Few if any set plays. Knicks basically show up and play.

Very interested to see if this characterization gets traction and what if anything the Knicks do about it.

  2. That’ because I am a thug and I came from the gutter and I’m still here.

I see no changes with our 6 man all I see is racist faces
misplaced hate makes disgrace to races
We under I wonder what it takes to make
MSG a better place, let’s erase the wasted fans
Take the evil out the fans they’ll be acting right and stop booing
’cause both black and white is smokin’ crack tonight
and only time we chill is when we kill each other
it takes skill to be real, time to heal each other
And although it seems heaven sent us a #1 draft pick
We ain’t ready, to see a black Coach, uhh
It ain’t a secret don’t conceal the fact
the penitentiary’s packed, and it’s filled with blacks
But some things will never change
I try to show Marbury another way but he’s stayin’ in the dope game
Now tell me what’s a coach to do
bein’ real don’t appeal to the brother in you
You gotta operate the easy way
“I got Eddy Curry to rebound” But I made him do it in a sleazy way
sellin’ crack to the young Knick fans. ” I gotta get paid,”
Well hey, well that’s the way it is

  3. anyone know what channel MSG2 is on Time Warner in Manhattan? I can’t find it on the channel guide and for some reason that’s not enough of a reason for me to not watch what is sure to be another embarrassing performance…

  4. I do adore those Snackwell peanut butter cookies. I get the 100 calorie packs so I can watch my weight. Eddy, Zach and Q should try some. Jerome James eats them, but honey they don’t work when you eat 15 bags.

  5. Who is Aaron Gray and why is he destroying the Knicks…

I started Lee on my fantasy team this week, so far the golden child isn’t looking too good…

  6. If the Bulls win, Obama wins New Hampshire. If the Knicks win, Clinton wins. I think the odds are similar too.

  7. anyone think we should just let marbury take over, hes by far the most talented player we have and just need to put decent fundamentally sound role players around him. he got us into the playoffs his first year here that way. thats a LOT better than how we’re doin now.

  8. 11 – 0 run to start the third, aren’t we supposed to dominate the third quarter, or is that just when we are down 20?

  9. lol…

Curry looking pretty good tonight, although just five rebounds…

Has something to prove in chicago perhaps…

  10. Great game from Nate, nine assists, one turnover….

We are in it, down two, who knows, maybe we win tonight?

  11. Go Knicks

(Sixers fan hoping the knicks can find a way to finish with a better record than the playing above their heads on a cruddy schedule sixers)

  12. Wow, what a stuff by Curry, that’s his fourth of the game…

I believe that is the first time in two years Curry has had more than three blocks in a game…

  13. Ok, the peanut butter thing was just a way to point out how silly the Q v Jared argument is. One is chunky and the other smooth but they are both peanut butter. It’s pick your preference. I did not intend all the jokes from Mr. Blackwell, Ms. Black, or Mr. Snackwell.

  14. And good help by Curry on Thomas, draws the o-foul, sort of lucky, but got to like the effort…

In a game when the Bulls have dominated the O=boards, we have won that battle in the fourth…

  15. hee hee….

Curry almost almost lost it, then backtaps it to Marbury, who cans it…

    We may win this one…

  16. “Ooh, awesome pass by Steph, great stuff by Lee…”

I’d like to see that one again, I’ve never seen a bounce pass like that, cutting under the basket and basically throwing an alley oop on the bounce. if that’s really what Marbury intended, wow.

always nice to beat Chicago and NJ, 4 of NY’s 9 wins are against those two.

  17. How odd have things gotten when I’m actually glad I didn’t see this one, because I’m rooting for the Knicks to lose since that’ll be in the ultimate interest of the team in my estimation?

  18. I keep asking for it, so I am glad that we saw it again – Lee at the 3.

It’s been used twice now, and it worked well BOTH times.

    Why not see it again?

  19. Q needs to never play. When we want defense both Jeffries and Lee are better and when we want offense a three guard lineup is better. I like Jeffries at the four. Isiah used him as our fourth big off the bench when Zach got into foul trouble. He is much better than Rose and has been playing well of late.

Also Eddy was amazing. That was one of the best games I have ever seen him play. He scored 20 points in the second half, had four blocks and even shot well from the line.

We also ran alot more than usual. We had 24 fast break points.

When we score over 100 points we are 5-6 when we don’t we are 4-18. We live or die with our offense. We need to bench Q and focus on playing good offensivly and making plays when it matters on defense. We cannot be a good defensive team but if we can be good on offense and get a couple stops down the stretch that is all that we need.

  20. In addition to Curry 4 blocks, Robinson with 10 dimes to one fumble. The Knicks almost kept fumbles under 10. So 4 of 5 the rest of the way gives us 48 wins. Houston you are next.

  21. Lee worked tonight at SF because the Bulls were without Deng. They basically played 3 PF/C – hence why Lee was valuable at that spot. Don’t think for a second that Isiah Thomas is going to be mismatched on the floor. If a team like the Bulls don’t have a SF, so they compensate by putting in a PF, Isiah will do exactly the same.

    He’s good that way.

  22. I have to say I’m going to savor this victory. Mostly because I’m not sure when the next one will come. It’s like when you’re on a long car ride, and all you have is a small bag of pretzels. So you start eating them. But then you realize you’re not stopping anytime soon, so you start eating them really slowly, and you see how long you can go between eating each one.

    Boy I’m feeling cantankerous.

  23. Is it just me, or did the Knicks play basically as well as they can play, and still just barely beat a lousy Bulls team sans Deng?

  24. yes, we are bad. (although I don’t think the Bulls are really awful, especially when Hinrich isn’t going 2 for 15)

  25. still room for improvement, though… like if instead of Jeffries playing 21 minutes, Rose 4 and Q 12… Balkman just played all 37.

  26. Roshi – the only reason the game was even in doubt was because the Knicks went to sleep on the boards. They played GREAT (for them) from an effort, offensive efficiency (50.6% FG, 40% 3PG, 73% FT, 28 assists, 11 TO!! WOW!!) and team defense standpoint, but when you give up 19 offensive rebounds and the other team gets 18 more shots than you AND you consider the Knicks are at least an average to above average rebounding team, I don’t think you can say this team played as well as they can play.

Re: the offensive efficiency — Chicago is built to be a good defensive team so I am very impressed with how well the Knicks played on offense. Looked very unselfish last night — 5 guys with 9+ shots and the 28 assists must be near a season high. I watched about 2/3 of the game last night and I must say that running Nate at the PG looks amazing. I was yelling at the TV when Isiah took him out in the 4th, but Stephon and Jamal played well down the stretch so I guess I can’t complain.

re: Curry – hands down the best all-around game he has played this year, if not his whole Knicks career. Grabbed a few big rebounds in traffic in the 4th, 4 blocks almost seems like a typo but I guess it must be true. That block he made on Thomas in the 4th was monstrous. And it looked like he was trying on defense and getting upset if he made a bad defensive play. And only one TO! Someone seems to have gotten through to him. If he can do even 2/3 of what he did last night against Yao tonight then I’ll be really impressed.

BTW – for one night at least, he certainly looked like he might be worth more than Noah and Thomas combined.

re: Nate – 10 assists, 1 TO, 7 rebounds? Is there any chance he can do that on a regular basis?

  27. A lot of good was seen in this game, but I’m still very cautious b/c the Bulls best slasher/penetrator/scorer was not playing, the Bulls obviously don’t have a go-to post scorer, and their outside shooters are pretty cold so far this season.
Still, that doesn’t negate the new intensity from Curry on D and the much improved handle by Steph, Crawford, and especially Nate.
And I agree with Caleb: what could it hurt to play Balkman at this point? I really don’t get it. Lee could see spot action at the 3, but those minutes should really go to Balkman. I have no idea why he’s in Zeke’s doghouse now.
Houston will be a good test. Can we control those guards? Can Eddy stay confident against Yao? Will Zach minimize his mistakes and ball-hogging like yesterday?

  28. Frank, Ess-dog and Caleb- Jeffries played pretty well as well. Didn’t he have a block in the critical last 2 minutes of the game? Plus his 6’11 size allows him the versatility to play Joe Smith – while Curry could guard ‘no offense’ Wallace.

  29. It’s a “nice” win if you like losing and want to continue the mediocrity of Isiah Thomas era.

  30. It’s a “nice” win if you like losing and want to continue the mediocrity of the Isiah Thomas era.

  31. I’ve fallen into the trap of thinking that a win will turn things around. Inevitably, they just go back to playing lousy.

I’m going to make a bold prediction and say that the Knicks will be blown away by Houston tonight.

    Well, maybe not so bold.

  32. roshi, i agree: i don’t see any way the Knicks beat Houston tonight. But i think it will be closer than the last matchup.
iyam, I will agree that Jeffries is an improvement over Q, but didn’t ol’ man Joe Smith score 22 pts against him last night? Not exactly a “lockdown defender” is he?

  33. The Knicks haven\’t won a playoff series in seven years, but boy I’m feeling cantankerous.

  34. This blog is a joke. So they won. Big whoop. They beat the last place team in the Eastern Central.

    Savor this: 9-24.

  35. if the knicks win their last 49 games, they might be able to nab the #4 seed in the eastern conference.

  36. Ess-dog- didn’t Curry score 29 points against Ben wallace. I guess Wallace must be the worst defensive player in the league?!

  37. He aint what he used to be, that’s fo sho.
Wins and losses mean nothing right now.
What’s really really real is THE BLUEPRINT.
    It’s all about THE BLUEPRINT.
Savor THE BLUEPRINT friends, if you can read it.
If you can’t, just sit back and be ready to applaud in 2015.

  38. Wasn’t Jeffries supposed to supplant Q as the starting SF? I see the Q experiment continues against the Rockets…

  40. Man – too bad Yao Ming will never be allowed to be a free agent- the guy is ridiculous. 7’6″, shoots over 60 percent from the free throw line, has an actual jumper AND hookshot, can dunk, and block shots!

I say we trade MSG and the dancers for Yao Ming!!

On a more serious note- win or lose – the last few games – the Knicks are really putting out some effort- they are STILL raw in a lot of places- like when Curry did not pick up the screen- but still – they are definitely playing much harder.

  41. damn! Nate is making his case to be a starter- 4 assists and 2-2 from the arc.
To bad Yao is eating our lunch. Curry needs to just push him out to the foul line- he’s letting him get inside too easy. See what happens when Q only gets 5 minutes of action?
    the blueprint’s comin together, babies…
