I wonder if Steph and CP3 are the best NBA players all time who basically can’t dunk. I guess Stockton would be in the mix.

At least we have 4 pretty good series now.

Is is possible that Steph is entering his decline phase?

He’s 31, so yeah, he should be declining, but he also badly dislocated a finger in game 2 and that might be affecting his shooting. His regular season didn’t show any significant decline.

He didn’t show much decline in the shooting department in the regular season, but the other advanced stats were all a bit down, it was his first season below .200 ws48 in the last 6 years, lowest BPM in the same period too. I think the finger is probably bothering him a lot, because he has obviously been good but not Curry good in this series.

Well it isn’t looking he’ll be worth $45 mill in 2 years. And if Durant leaves, there will definitely be a changing of the guard in the WC. Also, I could see SAC being really good next year and then PHX the year after that. Nice to know that we have no idea who will be the dominant team in 2 years. And Vegas thinks the Knicks could be in the mix by then!

I’m really just happy that we’ll have 4 good series with no sweeps. Last year semifinals were so damn boring, we knew every team that was going to win before it even started.

They say the same thing about Curry being injured every single playoff.

It’s possible it’s just a tad easier to slow down a guard whose greatest value comes from shooting 3s than it is to slow down a player that scores from everywhere in every way possible and is close to impossible to match up against because of his combination of his handle, size, and length like Durant.

This is why I think Durant will age well. He has “old man” skills. He has a million ways to get buckets, knows how to get easy buckets, and plays within himself. Durant is a high-IQ player.

    @9

I was just wrong on him.

I watched a lot of Warrior basketball this season. To me it looked like he was slipping and slowing down a little. His regular season stats bore that out a bit. But he had to be taking it easy during the season to save his energy for the post season. He has been brilliant in the playoffs.

I’m still having a hard time believing that guy is actually going to put on a New York Knicks uniform. It just still doesn’t seem possible no matter how many times I envision it. I just get the creeping feeling that something Knicksy is going to happen. I really hope I’m wrong.

Stratomatic "I'm tired of the Knicks paying lip service to DEFENSE. Get defenders & two-way players. Then play them!says:

It doesn’t make any sense to me, but I’m not him. If he does come I hope he brings along a buddy otherwise it makes less sense.

Do you think he faked the highly visible finger dislocation in game 2?

Well, Steph IS friends with David Blaine. Just saying.

Well it isn’t looking he’ll be worth $45 mill in 2 years.

I agree that his contract will be bad in a couple years, but they had to pay the core they have. There’s no “rebuild” for the Warriors. It will be near impossible for them to replicate what they have, even excluding Durant.

Imagine that before the trade deadline, they decided (due to a collective aneurysm by their front office) to trade all of their stars for future picks. How many do you think they could get for Curry, Klay, Durant, Iggy, and Green? 8 firsts and 4 seconds? More? Imagine they have 4 first round picks for the next three years. Do you think they could realistically expect to be a 60-win team in 2024? I don’t, and I think the Warriors are a top-3 franchise in roster development and talent identification.

They had to pay Curry. Had to.

He’s 31, so yeah, he should be declining, but he also badly dislocated a finger in game 2 and that might be affecting his shooting. His regular season didn’t show any significant decline.

Wasn’t it his left hand though? My guess would be ankle soreness, and also he’s shooting about as well as he ever has, as DRed said. Currently he’s got the 2nd-best playoff TS% of his career. There’s a slowdown, but it’s more evident in volume and assist numbers.

I think every player gets banged up from time to time and hardly anyone pays any attention, but as soon as Curry misses a few shots in the playoffs it’s always injuries and never that they slowed him down for a game or two.

I know I’m a broken record but it remains insane to me that the Rockets essentially cut James Ennis for LT savings

@15 his numbers are only slightly declined but something seems a bit different about him…he doesn’t seem to “take over” like he used to, you know, go off for 50ish points. I don’t watch him enough to make a firm judgment, but still.

It’s a pretty substantial drop even though he’s still an elite scorer. It’s totally unreasonable to expect players to be as good at 31 as they were at 27, though. Players like LeBron and Durant are exceptions to the rule, and their height helps them immensely. Durant will be able to shoot over 99% of the league until he retires. Just might not beat people off the dribble or score at the rim as much.

At the end of his career, I suspect Curry is going to be a spot-up shooter. He will not be roasting guys with clever lateral movement and screen action like he did at his peak. It’s going to be rough going when the decline truly kicks in.

i just don’t get how leonard does it, he looks like he’s moving sooooooo slowly and methodically out there…

I dunno, if his ankles hold up I can see him playing at at least a Lou Williams-level well into his late 30’s. Clearly his super-max days will be behind him very soon, but he will be a great 6th man on a contender if he can swallow his pride enough to take on that role. Probably the best comp for him is Steve Nash, who was a very effective offensive player until age 37 (Curry was always better than Nash on D but not quite the savant as a passer, so it kinda evens out.)

Toronto finally got a decent game out of Lowery, Gasol, and Ibaka. It came just in time with Siakim having a rough afternoon.

What did they do to limit Embiid today? I couldn’t watch the game

Stratomatic "I'm tired of the Knicks paying lip service to DEFENSE. Get defenders & two-way players. Then play them!says:

We sort of know from Durant and Green that the Warriors didn’t play all out in the regular season. They both stepped it up a notch in the playoffs. So did Iguodala. So I’m going to assume any dip in Curry’s numbers from the regular season are more of the same nonsense. These guys were saving something for the playoffs like the old championship Celtics used to do and even Lebron has done in recent years.

In the playoffs they get more physical with Curry and make it a little tougher on him. There’s only one ball. As long as Durant is going off and everyone else is playing well, there’s no reason for Curry to get hyper aggressive. One of these nights they’ll need to him go off and he will. I’m sure it’s not fun playing with his left hand hurting, but I think he’s fine.

I didn’t watch the entire game, but in the parts I saw he didn’t look right physically again. That’s kind of strange because he looked so good in the previous game. Maybe Gasol played him better. Someone else might know.

Embiid didn’t look like himself today, he was not looking for his shot as often as he does. He might be feeling some of the injuries again but I don’t know either.

Leonard is just unstoppable too. What a crazy performance. All the series are alive and well and this is amazing.

    On Embiid, Times recap notes:

The All-Star center played through an illness and only had 11. Sixers coach Brett Brown said Embiid texted him early in the morning saying he wasn’t sure if he could play.

Maybe Seth Curry deserves a max contract…..

Oh, and that guy Jokic is pretty good…

Murray had his first actually good game tonight. Even there, notice how they didn’t try to look for him at the end (and it paid off) with Harris and Barton making the clutch shots off of brilliant Jokic passes. He came through with some hugely clutch free throws, though.

Yeah, actually Seth Curry would be a perfect fit for Denver. He doesn’t need to be a playmaker and can focus on shooting. Plus, he can replace Jamal “POINTZZ!!!” Murray.

The Blazers v Nuggets and Raptors v 6ers both look like legit 7 game series, which I am 100% down for.

Kudos to both teams backing it up after the 4 OT game. Had the potential for 1 team to blow game 4 out.

We need a win by Houston to make things truly awesome. But fuck the Celts, as always.

    @37

Agreed. This show has become all sorts of stupid. If there was any doubt that George R. R. Martin was the only genius affiliated with this show then its become certain after this season. Daenys’ invasion has to be the dumbest in all of fiction and what they did to Tyrion’s character after the show surpassed the books is a literary crime.

And now they threw the one character that was showing some actual development, Jaime, to the “hey guys he’s obviously playing a part in the conclusion of all this” dumpster fire.

Ugh. I was ok with this season so far, obviously unhappy about many things but decently satisfied with some stuff… and this episode made me lose all the remaining faith I’ve had. Burn it all to the ground.

re: GOT whatever, GRRM has had about twenty years to finish this up, or at least half a dozen since the fifth book, instead we have this. This particular episode was about ten or twenty minutes of moving the plot forward and an hour or so of soap opera.
