If The Basketball Gods Are Willing – The 2022 NBA Lottery Thread

Well, come on, actual lottery luck! I don’t want to hear the Knicks’ name called for #12, 11 or 10!

“I don’t want to hear the Knicks’ name called for #12, 11 or 10!”

I look forward to picking 13th.

So if we don’t get called at 11 does that mean we definitely move up to top 4?

Today we’re rooting for a thing the Knicks are capable of doing – be the last (to be called)! ;D

d-mar: So if we don’t get called at 11 does that mean we definitely move up to top 4?

Yes! 😉

Of course the Kings as such a well run franchise deserve some lottery luck.

Well, wherever the Kings draft, bet on the guy picked after them to be the best player in the draft.

the curse of worldwide wes…lives on…shoulda used steve stoute or whoever that branding dude was that got banished in his first week for saying dumb stuff…

It’s a shame we didn’t move up but this is a pretty even draft so of all years not to move up this is the one.

Now let’s just get Eason, Daniels, or Mathurin.

A few weeks ago I invited everyone who likes losing with youth and building from the ground up to stop watching the Knicks and start rooting for the Magic. They’re doing everything the “hybrid-approach sucks” faction wishes was happening in NY.

According to Givony, Ivey is dropping out of the top 5 and Sharpe is moving up to #4.

I decided not to watch in the hope that I would miss something good; but clearly not. Where did we end up?

Givony doesn’t have Ivey in the Top5. If that’s what teams are thinking, maybe we can trade up to 6th to pick him?

I could see Mathurin falling to us with this alignment. Portland probably has the swing pick at #7.

I just saw the list. At least horrible teams are at the top. The one thing that struck me was that Laker fans must be hating this draft seeing their pick at number eight, but not for them.

They’ve had losing records in 10 of their last 11 seasons with a high water mark of 42 wins and 4 first round ass-kicking. Not to mention that they represent a city with zero culture in a state with a despicable governor who sacrificed thousands of lives to own the libs. Their #5 pick last year put up the worst season of any player in the draft. But sure, at least they aren’t the Knicks!

I honestly dislike very few options in our range. Even Duren could end up as a great value pick. The only guy I don’t like there is Agbaji because of his age and low ceiling, although, I’m sure I’d like him as a role player eventually. I could talk myself into Johnny Davis, too.

Agreed Ess-dog I like a lot of players in our range so it would be pretty hard to mess this draft up assuming we dont trade it.

Not to mention that they represent a city with zero culture

i lived in orlando for six months – and, i approve this statement 🙂

i also lived in tampa for about six months (beautiful area along the coast)…my big takeway from living in those two spots – man, “lightning alley” ain’t no joke and is one hell of a light show (a little freaky looking at times), and – wow, the primary school system within florida needs some serious help, the folks they’re pushing out in to society are not quite the sharpest tools in our national shed…

oh yeah, gonna go see my first show with one of the kids (311 in riverside) tonight…so excited…

i miss being able to ride my little girl around on my shoulders and go for long hikes all the time, but – going to hang out together at a show is pretty darn cool too…

right now debating whether to drop some cash to go see the black crowes next friday…it’d be a solo night, and the crowes are one of the groups on my “need-to-go-watch” list…

my last casino show (kid rock at morongo) is making me hesitate…tickets were free and kid rock did his thing, but, i hated the venue…hopefully the yaamava theater doesn’t feel like some high school auditorium like morongo did…

***they represent a city with zero culture in a state with a despicable governor who sacrificed thousands of lives to own the libs.***

I’m not saying to retire there. Just stop rooting for the Knicks and root for a team with real upside is all. It’s fun.

Sure, I’m sure there must be a couple hundred Magic fans (i.e. all of them) who agree with you!

(they have about 10 comments on their main SB Nation blog since they won the lottery…what excitement!)

After living in Nashville for almost a year now I can say that New Yorkers have a much better work ethic. There are some really smart people around though.

So, World Wide Wes was World Wide Worthless tonight, I guess. Not his fault….all on James Dolan’s Karma.

Well, a win for math.

Hopefully the Knicks can do a good job with the pick we have.

My late grandfather lived outside of Orlando from the early 90s til his passing in ‘09. He was a Magic fan – he liked Dwight Howard.

You’d have to think something is amiss in their player development: they’ve been drafting young talent near the top of the lottery since they traded Dwight, and they’ve basically only been able to top out as a .500 team since if I’m remembering right. Would anyone really be mad if they were contracted? And while we’re talking Orlando… is there any one- thing they’re downtown area is known for? Anything???

As to the rest of Z’s post… all reasons I could never live in Florida. Yes, it’s somewhat easier to say that living in SoCal. But I’ve felt that way even b4 I moved out here.

bidiong the not so great:

I’ve heard people say stuff on here about Nashville. Has there really been a influx of New Yorkers moving there akin to say North Carolina (always a fav landing spot for transplant NYers)?

JVG said it but damn Tatum hits tough shots

I also didn’t understand what they said about him. Ins a lot bigger than 6’8 210?

Either way, he is playing real well.

I’ll be the first to admit I was wrong about Tatum. I thought he was an overrated chucker who followed up every great game with a 5-20 game.

But he’s taken it to another level, maybe close to top 5 in the NBA level.

We’re either going to trade this pick or trade several of our young players in some kind of consolidation trade, I imagine. So I wouldn’t get too attached to prospects just yet. Or maybe we’ll try to package a kid with the pick to move up enough for Sharpe?

Orlando has won 4 lotteries now. Cleveland has won 5. Sacramento moves into the top 3 seemingly all the time. The Clippers been in the top 2 five times. The Hornets have been selected in 7 lotteries. New Orleans has had three generational talents in a row.

It’s pretty damn easy to weigh historic results into the equation so the same stupid teams don’t keep winning.

Never mind he’s got 7 turnovers, he sucks (-:

i’ll never forget driving through clearwater one day, stopped at a stop light, looked around and noticed that literally everyone i could see (people walking/standing/driving/shopping/whatever) all around me had white hair…it was like normal life, only everyone was really old…

although i never stopped at one, i did definitely appreciate those hot dog stands along the road with the chicks in bikinis selling wieners…many years ago now, but i don’t think i’ve seen that anywhere else…

Honestly, just happy we didn’t move down. It’s all up to Walt Perrin & Brock Aller now. In Walt I trust.

Guys, I’m not saying to move to Orlando. I’m saying that, when you are alone, at your computer, typing to a bunch of strangers about how the Knicks are stupid for winning meaningless games with veterans on market rate contracts and playing for the 10th seed instead of developing their young players, there ARE other options. But if denigrating Orlando and Magic fans makes you feel better about rooting for a team owned by James Dolan, go for it. (Personally, when I’m watching basketball on TV, I don’t care much about the actors or musicians sitting court-side, or the cuisine around the arena, or whether there’s an opera house to be seen in any of the aerial blimp shots, or who the governor living way off in the state capital is. Pretty much everybody here agrees that it’s fun to watch a bunch of young players with upside grow together. The Magic leaders in minutes were Wagner, Anthony, Carter, Bamba, and Okeke, all 23 and under, plus they have Suggs, Fultz, Hampton, Isaac(!), and now the #1 pick waiting to make their impacts. Whatever bad decisions they’ve made in the past are moot, the future is bright, and it’s precisely because they have done what a lot of people here have implored the Knicks to do.)

Orlando really shouldn’t have a team. Send it to Seattle or Las Vegas. In state, Tampa deserves a team more, or even Jacksonville. Fuck Orlando.

Kinda sucks that this franchise is obsessed with picking in the mid-to-late lottery, as it’s run by a bunch of incompetent ninnies, but Keegan Murray is going to go #7 and we’re really going to see just how much it sucks to win those extra 4 or 5 games for literally no reason at all.

And yeah, Donnie is 100% right, but I am not going to stop being a Knickerbloggerer. Fuck James Dolan in the face, but I’m still a Knickerbloggerer.

They still suck and many other teams have lapped them multiple times by other means of rebuilding. If they fuck up this pick like they fucked up last year’s they will continue to suck.

Their fans, cuisine, opera and governor all suck too.

Donnie discovers the internet is stupid.

Complaining about not tanking down to #7 is a bit disingenuous. I think even if we had fully committed to the tank post-all-star break (prior to the all-star break we did accidentally tank by going 3-13) we could not have caught Portland. Their tank was one of the strongest I’ve ever seen, they went 2-21 with almost all blowouts. I think the best we could have hoped for was the 8th pick. That would be a lot better than 11 but there was no way Sharpe, Ivey, or Murray were falling to 8 so we can probably dispense some of the handwringing. Plus we got to see Toppin and IQ shine which could very well earn them a bigger role next year, or at least get the press all hot and bothered about them playing more, which is probably worth a couple draft spots anyway.

Let’s see if what is taken between 8-10 is much better than what’s available at 11 before we get upset. Don’t get me wrong I hate Dolan and Thibs as much as anyone but I’m not going to lose sleep over slipping a couple spots when it looks like we’ll have at least a couple really nice players fall to us.

I don’t care that much about tanking or not tanking. I just want to see our young players play a lot of minutes and not have to watch Randle or our squad of vet mercs play at all. If we do that like we did to finish the season I am fine where ever we pick.

I’m not saying to move to Orlando.

i remember they had this park around a lake with a fountain in the middle close by their downtown, it was a nice park…i think the best thing about orlando though, was that it was only like 50 miles away from daytona beach…

yeah, the tampa bay area (particularly by the water) is much nicer…

In Portugal we have a saying “you can change your shirt, you can change your job and you can change your wife (LOL), but you never ever change your sports team”. 😀

IMO, the first question to ask isn’t “who should we take?”.

The draft is is still a value oriented decision.

The correct question is “is there anyone available to us at #11 that we want to give the required long 1st round contract to?”.

Then you start thinking about opportunities to move up, move down, trade, or roll it out if there are better deals available.

Deeefense!!:
I heard Houston is open to trading their pick.

That’s interesting. If the Houston GM, who seems like a smart guy, thinks it would be better to have multiple later picks than having number three, maybe we should stand pat with our pick.
