2021-22 Game Thread: Knicks @ Hawks

Sorry, thought it was an 8pm start.

Let’s go, Knicks!

Thx, Brian.

Let’s go Knicks! Love seeing RJ dish often at the start of games. I wish he would keep that up after the first quarter ends.

Thanks Brian!

From last thread:

Winnable game, they’re without Capela and Bogdanovic.
A win would push the Hawks deeper in their hole and maybe help them implode.
At the same time they have lost 9 straight at home, are on a b-t-b and very angry.

Classic trap game.

Let’s Go Knicks!

Love that pass from Randle. More please. All this passing is not just for the first quarter, gentlemen.

Late join…was having beers with a buddy and watching some NFL. Forgot to adapt my halftime incense and spirit dance ritual for pregame, so we’ll just have to fire it next quarter! BingBong! Let’s go Knicks!

The Hawks broadcast keeps calling Okongwu “the big O”, but he’s not that big… he’s 6’8! 😛

DRed:
Why is Taj out there?Did Mitch get hurt again?

Noel out with no update, yet.

EDIT: sore knee during warmups. in the locker room.

DRed:
RJ attacking is what I like to see

I know with RJ it’s “fool me once” but he looks like a different player right now.

(Of course it helps to have no Capela)

Refs are whistling for bad stares and garlic breath, if they’ll continue this game will end monday morning…

RJ’s playing with great confidence…

KevinR: With Noel being made of glass dont see any Mitch for guard trades

And the 9M AAV contract is turning into an albatross pretty fast. Now that’s a thing i wasn’t predicting in any way.

No 9m AAV contract will ever be an albatross in the NBA.

My most eye-test based, not really empirically supported opinion about this team is that Obi is a good passer

Randle with multiple great passes to Mitch, always thought that two man game could be further developed

For all of that Julius explosion, the far and away favorite play was the whirlpool drive that ended with the dish to Mitch. That was sweet.

I hope Julius has long covid effects, because it seems like covid has straightened him up

So this team went to sleep on october 31st and wake up a few days ago?

Thank goodness they’re not bears, the hibernation would have been longer…

Max: Thank goodness they’re not bears, the hibernation would have been longer…

Maybe they are, but the boos were getting so loud that they came out of it sooner. LOL

Everything clicking again, just like Mavs game. Will start dancing right after Bill Pieto’s MSG 150 to ward off the 3rd quarter meltdown.

Early Bird: I want to say game 1.

Exactly. Game one really made me think my 50 win prediction was reasonable. They all played like Leon drew it up. Not sure how that went away.

Serious question. Who is the best center Mitch has ever dominated or been equal to. I love the guy, but I’m waiting for that position to be a clear win for us against the better teams.

Last year Mitch was starting to be that player. He demolished Gobert in one game against Utah. Gobert got him back later, but Mitch really was a different player last year.

Giannis 17-17 from the line and still the Bucks did lose…
Full roster Raptors are a well coached pain in the ass.

Nice, everybody went to BingBongHits house, for the dance. And here i am watching the game all alone. 😀

If “the old foot trick” permanently referred to stepping on a guy’s foot to make him fall and make it look like you crossed him over, that would make sense

It’s a Bing Bong dance party!!

KB Apprentice:
Obi lacks joy without DRose to hit him for 3-4 hoops in transition.

Yeah, stuck in the corner, no one looks at him when he post-up a smaller guy…
With Reddish around, the backup quarterback is at risk of becoming the third stringer…

Oops. Obi lost his man on that one after forcing a nice steal on the previous D. Thibs gonna sit him down.

pepper:
obi…back in the dungeon after the matador dee

Looked kind of like the Hawks guy grabbed Obi’s arm and slingshotted around him.

Big test for Randle now. Blocked. Blew the D on the transition. Can he keep cool and help close this out.

I fucking knew I should’ve cashed out Knicks ML for like 80% of the total winnings in the 3rd. I know the Knicks better than Vegas.

I don’t want to complain about him too much tonight but infuriating non contest by Randle there.

Star J though!

He’s had a few better box scores, but accounting for the decision making this is my vote for best Randle game of the year

I’d like to thank McMillan for putting the starters back in the game… since then it’s all Knicks! 😀

Somehow, someway, the 2021-2022 New York Knicks are above .500.

The Hawks can’t relate.

Knicks have caught the Wizards in the standings, next game vs Charlotte is pretty huge.

Seeing the Knicks so nice to Frank and Knox is cool. Seems like we have a lot of class guys here.

Yeah I think we’re reaching a point where we may have to call the Hawks season last year a fluke. Yes they’ve been hit with injuries and COVID protocols, but wasn’t their “depth” a big reason people had them going far this year? Besides Hunter and maybe Capela – who I think is overrated
– they don’t have any defenders (bottom 5 in almost all DEF categories) and still rely on ball-dominant Trae. Bogi has regressed and don’t be surprised if Collins and Trae get into another squabble that the winning last year buried. And McMillian is still a mediocre coach to me.

Very nice win.
One step away from a meltdown they regain composure and were razor sharp down the stretch.

Randle with 9 assists and only 1 turnover, great stat and very solid game.
Barrett with a sneaky bad shooting night but good as usual in the clutch and oozing confidence.

I’m glad I’m poor and i don’t have any life savings to bet lol
Randle, Fournier and Barrett we’re all pretty damn good.

Also, the Hawks are not even mediocre anymore, they’re just trash.

I was never sold on the Hawks core long term. Not a high ceiling as currently constructed

Max: One step away from a meltdown they regain composure and were razor sharp down the stretch.

Yes. Key point. And good to see E4 involved in the 4th. Couple of key baskets. I still feel like he’s a killer. Also Grimes had a quiet strong game. Actually think he played the best D on Trae.

Fournier hit his last 4 shots, including 2 consecutive to restore order when the Hawks closed to 91-93.

We’ve won 5/6 and still don’t have Noel or Rose back. Those 2 drove our 2nd half run last year. Should I be getting excited again?!?!

With LaVine down it might be tough. They have no depth.

Also, wouldn’t mind seeing MIA beat Philly.

Someone mentioned before the Knicks started this 10 game stretch of all very winnable games that the Knicks had to go 8-2, so far they’re 5-1 with 4 home games in a row left to finish this stretch before the schedule gets brutal again.

Forgot to adapt my halftime incense and spirit dance ritual for pregame, so we’ll just have to fire it next quarter!

Well, alright you squares, it’s time we smoked
Fire up this funk and let’s have a toke
It’ll make you dance and some of everything
Everybody get high, sing

Noel being out again really sucks we cant rely on Taj if we want to make a serious run

I liked all the assists. Burks and Randle weren’t far from triple doubles

I am currently in upstate NY near the Canadian border and it is -14 outside. Fortunately I stopped at the famed Raquette River Brewery and picked up a double IPA growler. Loving life right now!

It’s funny how much better Burks looks at PG when the four other players don’t stink up the court…but of course, it’s all luck, Thibs deserves no credit.

I live in homer NY just south of Syracuse. It’s about -8 here now. I was at the local watering hole watching the Knicks game with a buddy of mine. Enjoying some bourbon washed down with an IPA. Nothing like being in a good pub where it’s warm, watching a game with good friends. Even better when the Knicks play well and win.

Dude! Did you change your tag?

I don’t have any life savings!

meaningful life >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I don’t have any life savings!

hard to know someone digitally, you can get a bit of a sense, but…anyways, my impression over these years is that the journey you’re on carries quite a bit of meaning to it…

generally, can’t go wrong trying to serve the greater good, particularly serving those folks who’ve drawn the short straw in our societies…most likely part of the human condition…a better world is one of more balanced opportunities for health and happiness…our age allows for those with passion to make an even bigger difference than ever…

okay, here’s something cool – i guess sometime in 2021 some like 90k old leather making/style tools were discovered…so hilarious that my imagination goes to furs of anything around 10k bce when folks normally associate the end of the the ice age – spoiler alert: not quite completely over, soon though the only ice you’ll see is out the fridge…

heck no, they was walking around rocking those cool song of ice and fire leathers…

That’s about it, what matters is that you’re happy with thr coices you’ve made and that it stays fulfilling.

The east is getting really spicy this year, none of the top 5 teams seems unbeatable right now and there’s a lot of room for changes even at the top. I guess the teams who remain healthier will get over the hump eventually but it’s been fun to watch

***I hate to be that guy, but the novella by Chiang is one of the best sci-fi pieces I’ve read. Had me tearing up. The central theme of Arrival (“Would you still do something if you knew for a fact just how badly it would end?”) is perfect sci-fi humanist stuff. The movie tried very hard, but wasn’t quite “it” for me.***

I haven’t read the novella, but the experience you had reading it is the same one I had watching the movie. There are, like, maybe three movies ever that make me cry. But I was alone in a theatre bawling my eyes out at the end of Arrival, and when I told people it made me cry, they asked why, and I said “honestly, I don’t know, I didn’t even understand the plot.” Maybe it was the the pacing, maybe it was the Max Richter music, maybe it was the acting, I don’t know. But it just gave me a visceral catharsis unlike any movie I’d ever seen before. So I can imagine one having a similar reaction to the novella. Part of me wishes I’d experienced it that route, but if I had, I imagine the movie experience would have been less memorable.

The Hawks played like trash. It was a lot of fun to watch the Knicks basically kick their ass.

I’ll be very surprised if LeBron doesn’t start trading guys this week. They just got absolutely destroyed by Jeff Green and a guy named Bones. I still can’t believe he really thought Westbrook would be the missing piece to his team.

I still can’t believe he really thought Westbrook would be the missing piece to his team.

It was always a shockingly bad idea. Especially since they almost had Buddy Hield without giving up as many guys!

Westbrook was so dumb for the team, but how do you let Caruso go? He is the perfect role player for a championship team with ball-dominant stars already locked up.

And I generally consider adaptations their own things, and especially don’t go for navel-gazing projects like comparing Nabokov to Kubrick, but sometimes the material just works better in one medium. But I’m sure I could read and watch them again and maybe have a different experience. Who cares!

His best move might be restructuring his contract and trading himself to Philly for Ben Simmons.

No I’ve been so busy the last couple of years (doc here, work inpatient- pandemic has been brutal on my life). I haven’t posted much on this blog lately. But make no mistake I’ve been lurking and reading all of you guys daily. My handle has been the same since I joined this blog over a decade ago. I grew up in queens. Thus the handle..

Raven: I used to run track against Homer…

Did you live in cortland? I ran track in the Bronx. At van cortland park n Highschool. Didn’t grow up in homer. But I’ve been in upstate ny for 17 years.
