2021-22 Game Thread: Almost .500 Knicks @ Celtics

The Knicks head to Boston flying high after one of the most amazing regular season Knick wins of the past decade.

They’ll likely have to complete the sweep without Celtic-killer Evan Fournier, who is currently listed as questionable, so let’s hope someone else steps up so that the Knicks can pull off the trifecta of sweeping the Celtics in this home and home, move two games ahead of the Celtics in the standings and get back to .500.

Let’s go, Knicks!

I mean this would be a great win to get, but it’s a lot to ask to beat them twice in a row with the second one on the road. It would be a catastrophic loss for the C’s, who are in a crisis of confidence right now. Maybe they tighten up in the 4th again, but that’s less likely when they’re at home, no?

Anyone know why Clyde is doing fewer games/not too many away games? I imagine it’s because Omicron is ravaging the country and at Clyde’s advanced age they don’t wanna risk anything. Just curious if anyone knew.

I also loathe Wally lol.

Clyde was already in protocols so I assume he’s recovered. Maybe taking it easy for a bit…

Of course our Celtic killer is out. When did Fournier get this supposed “thigh contusion”?

Some good things, a few bad ones,
but a very nice effort on defense and high energy level.
Good quarter.

Three threes each by IQ and RJ in the first quarter. Randle passing the rock.

We learned last year that Burks is unable to score on a fastbreak…. 🙂

IQ lighting the lamp tonight.

It’s incredible what the refs are letting go, but they’re using a lot of inexperienced G-League refs…

do we have one God damn play to get obi an ally oop…jeez…it’s like wouldn’t you want to exploit his athleticism?

Why is every time a Knick penetrates he has no idea what he’s going do, looks out of control, often winds up in the air and it turns into some kind of desperation pass or shot?

The refs are not calling anything for the Knicks right now. I think that’s why we’re a little out of control.

Like some pretty blatantly missed calls.

pepper:
obi…got his requisite 4 minutes

Without the normal 2nd unit Obi has no role either …,it’s not an uptempo unit anymore … sucks

cybersoze:
Nice Julius, keep it going… out of bounds!?

He can be mad all he wants it’s the type of shit that he shouldn’t have happen

Even when Randle hits a long shot his foot is on the line.

He’s unwatchable if you like ball and player movement and high IQ basketball.

Deeefense!!:

The shot was changed to a 3pter.

Obi misses Rose more than anyone and he has lost minutes and confidence after Thibs’ “backup quarterback” comment.
In the last three games he’s played mostly beyond the arc or in the corner, just like in last year’s horrendous first half…

“The shot was changed to a 3pter.”

Ok, he’s only only a dummy not an idiot. 🙂

It sucks

We talk a lot about how Mitch needs to add to his offensive game but the first thing he needs to work on is free throws. He leaves two to three points a game on the board bc of how portly he shoots from the line.

If it’s gonna be corner shit they might as well play Knox and get rid of Obi… I’d be happy for him

I love Breen. “Your career high is six”

I turned it on and things went straight downhill.

I know, he puts absolutely no arc on the ball.

The refs said the foul was on Horford, but it wasn’t, it was on RWIII. Of course it’s best for the Celtics to be on the guy without a foul, right?

That Jokic assist in the highlights package was sweet.

Would love to have a guy like that on the Knicks once in my life.

Everyone in the league know Marcus Smart is a junkyard dog on defense and still some Knicks play careless with him around?

Definitely not feeling like this is a game where i can make crazy predictions 🙁

it’s not that’s randle’s been horrible but he has zombie carrying a heavier zombie type energy out there

Need to put more heat on Julius. Sorry bro. Ur not getting it done this year bottom line.

Just tuning in. Saw the Randle turnover and the Williams dunk.

Um. Where is Cyber!!!???

In the last seven quarters PG-Burks is 3-19. The unusual role screw his instincts and timing (it happened before).

And as usual, despite Randle playing… not well, Obi’s glued to the bench the entire quarter.

IQ with a very nice game.

If we somehow come back and win this (which we probably won’t) Celtics nation will be on suicide watch

Ah, just now working through the thread and the box.

No E4, so movie recs are indeed necessary.

IQ looks good on paper tonight. RJ too. Randle struggling, so Obi only 5 minutes (plus ca change). Why no Deuce? Okay, then. Let’s get a good look at Grimes.

If Mitch plays against anyone near his athleticism, he is pretty useless on offense/rebounding. It is pretty disheartening watching Timelord defend the rim compared to this version of Mitch.

ess-dog:
Quick looks like Steph tonight. But why does Mitch look so terrible??

Also, haven’t we had some good luck with Obi and Randle on the floor at the same time? Seems like against Kanter that might be a good idea. Or am I tripping?

Of course i mind losing, but we know that happens. What i don’t understand is why our offense completely vanishes. Maybe try have a real PG next year.

Meanwhile, in Indianapolis life’s easy without Gobert, Sabonis’ career high 42 shooting 18-22,
and the Hornets, eager to gift us their pick, beat the Bucks.

Why the frack do the Celtics keep doing the stupid “let the ball roll before picking it up to save time on the clock” crap? They’re up huge late in the game…

I think Schroeder’s done it twice now.

This loss is on Thibs. No reason not to give McBride burn when Burks had a terrible night on both ends. His rotations were poor all night and almost no adjustments after an awful 3rd.

Barrett with some horrible drives and airballs tonight…

Randle followed a 8-20 (but zero TO) performance with a sparkling 6-19 with 6 turnover one.
Celtics fans didn’t boo him enough to trigger a reaction.

It’s kinda inexcusable … but then again . We needed a miracle once In a lifetime performance from frenchie to best these guys the other night. Randle deserves every boo he gets …

Super glad RJ played 43 minutes and Randle played 37, since having them on the court those last three quarters was clearly working.

Hey Thibs — Shut the fuck up.

No point guard, no offensive rhythm, and 37% shooting again. That’s brutal and it’s not just “one of those nights” because it happens way too often this season. It’s painful to watch.

–In 15 out of 41 games the Knicks failed to score 100 points.
–25th in the NBA in FG%
–27th in FG made
–21st in offensive rating

Only their 3PT% is good (8th). For the most part, defense today wasn’t bad. However, no matter how hard you play D, you need to be able to score the basketball as well: you need to make you 3-pointers, make your jump shots, make your FTs.

Our best player is doing nothing for us right now

I refer of course to Derrick Rose

Berman did a nice hatchet job on julius regarding his performance tonight in tomorrow’s post…

and thibs blows….he was the worst performer tonight..pigheaded bs…

This was so obviously the knicksiest outcome that I would have bet on this if I were a gambling man. After the Randle shit there was no way this was going any other way.

It was a seven man rotation. What is that even about?

Especially because it was a seven man rotation that sucked.

just making it through the thread, cleaned the garage today, saw some of the game in the 3rd, watched for a minute in the fourth…i think though i know what went wrong for the knicks today:

Stopped paying attention for a few minutes and we completely fell apart

when we lose the game and don’t develop our young players – it’s like we lose twice…

I think coaches not being dicks is a bit overrated. For instance, Phil Jackson is a dick, but I’d gladly have him coach the Knicks if he wanted to. But that being said, boy, Thibs sure is a bit of a dick, huh?
