2020-21 Game Thread: Knicks vs. The Weird Ass Raptors

The Knicks host the weird ass Toronto Raptors tonight with a very good chance to both get back to .500 and also let the Raptors know that, seriously, they can just give up already and just properly tank.

OG Anunoby (taken 15 picks after Frank Ntilikina) is resting tonight, Fred VanVleet is out, Deandre Bembry is suspended (the Knicks will luck out and will somehow have players from the same fight suspended against them in back to back games) and yet somehow Kyle Lowry is actually playing. The Raptors are fucking weird. Just tank already!

Let’s go get back to .500, Knicks!

Tonight’s new brew for the game is Warsteiner Dunkel. I don’t like it quite as much as the other Warsteiner beer I tried out for an earlier game, but it was on sale, so…

Remember, if you hear anyone yelling, “We want Frank,” it’s got to be Z-man.

Liked the stat from the pregame (which Hahn said they found on Reddit): Knicks are 21-17 when Randle’s hair is braided (which it is again tonight, after being floating free for the last several games). Important!

I’m watching the Toronto feed on the way to work. The audio is in Chinese, but there was a graphic with the keys to the gáfame for Toronto. The first one was “not Randle”

This Knick team can play suffocating defense when it wants to.

Started late and the first name i saw was “Gillespie”, so immediately thought that i had clicked on the wrong game. 😀

Would’ve been nice if Lowry wouldn’t have returned to the lineup tonight.

Obi’s rebounding and defense have definitely improved. I’m not giving up on him.

This challenge by Thibs is going to humble the refs and make Thibs their daddy.

I was today years old when I learned Mike Breen does not have any tattoos

Are we going to follow our usual game plan for 3rd quarters – play horrible basketball and lose the lead ?

Here you go.

Knicks seem to play so much better in the 2nd half when trailing instead of leading.

looks like we figured out that attacking the foul line works against the zone… congrats…

DRed:
Clyde & Breen have been in elite form tonight

You watch other games on NBA TV and you realize how lucky we are to have them. The best in the biz.

I thought the Raptors ditched the purple from their logo/unis. Interesting.

ugly…Randle continuing regression to the mean…his 3 point shots are not close

Marcus Smart, Malachi Flynn – shitty 3 point shooters who become sharpshooters against us

It’s usually only the 3rd quarter, but today we’re playing horrible in the 4rd also 🙁

remember in high school at practice…coach made you practice how to run a freaking fast break….thibs better start that shit now..

Owen: Nerlens hands, wow

Missed an easy 2P, and now lost the handle of a rebound. Not a great time for this kind of stuff.

No one told me RJ had a spot he couldn’t miss from

No one told him last year either

RJ has taken that slight about him from Wiseman that he was going to let RJ shoot in the clutch personally. Love that he has come back big in the clutch two games in a row.

What hustle by Bullock to get back on D forcing that Siakam double dribble.

I got a kick out of Siakam asking the refs to review the most obvious double dribble I’ve ever seen in an NBA game

It would be nice to see 4 great quarters, but I’ll take 2 and as half if we get the win.

It wasn’t Wiseman, it was Edwards

Yep realised after I posted. Always proof read!!!

Thibs has really brought that ugly 90’s basketball back full force.

I’m here for it

Wound up being tougher than it should’ve been but still huge freaking win.

since the asb rj’s been our best player… and i think that’s probably going to remain true for a very very long time….

Man I love Clyde and Breen. “The Knicks should just go to the locker room.”

Nerlens winning fans with the comment about being tough because it’s NY.

Next step is gonna be having RJ with the ball in his hands down the stretch of games. For me he still goes too long in stretches where he doesn’t touch the ball on offense. But becoming such a deadly spot up 3pt shooter is an amazing development.

Wally just said Julius is turning down open threes. I’m seeing the opposite. He’s not getting open threes like he was in the first half of the season. Nothing is easy now for Julius.

OK OK Alan Hahn I’m sold on RJ already! Take a breath!

(i’m quietly happy he stanning hard for Barrett tho)

That was hilarious. It’s tough to be a cheerleader for a team that has stunk, so he’s probably got a lot of pent up energy to put behind someone. And that someone was RJ.

Thibs: “Berman bringing the sunshine.” Love that he called him out.

What’s the story with Thibs putting Frank in for 4-5 seconds?

Isn’t that kind of insulting in a way? If they absolutely needed his defense for 1 play I guess it would be OK, but the games are over.

cybersoze:
Very good game you chose to go, Z-Man 😉

It was fun! I brought my 24yo daughter who was great company. She fell in love with Nerlens!

Z-man: She fell in love with Nerlens!

You mean Crab Hands.

Hmm, the fact that I used to call him Butter Stumps is suddenly making me strangely hungry…

Don’t knock it because we won both games 🙂

When the other teams top priority is “not Julius”, it’s going to be difficult for him. Teams have now realized that, unlike last year, he can shoot threes.

It is really unbelievable how bad Noel’s hands are when he’s such an incredible defender. It’s like he can use them for everything on a basketball court except catch the ball on offense
