Brian Cronin: Thanks, Z-man, I’ll edit that in. It’s strange that I missed that. I mean, I got Vern Fleming and Steve Johnson but missed Mark Price? Very odd. (Quote)

Thanks, Brian. I should say that I remembered that Cumings cost us draft picks, but it is only now that I discovered that Mark Price was involved. Saved me 26 years of additional anguish, I guess, especially since Price was one of my favorite non-Knicks back then. We can only imagine whether Price might have put the early-90's Knicks over the top. Then again, some of the Cavs teams he played on were damn good and they never got past Jordan either.

I also remember the Jawan Oldham trade. When it occurred, I immediately thought, "WTF?! Why do we keep trading #1 picks for scrubs and stiffs?" It was especially frustrating that we had just lucked out in the Ewing lottery and bumbled our way into one lost opportunity after another.

You know what, Nick, I think you're spot on. Now that I think back, I believe he actually was auditioning for a front office position! I mean, I don't know if that specifically was what he was doing on the broadcasts, but I believe there were reports that he was interested in a front office job around that time.

Brian Cronin: When he was younger, sure, but by the time he started calling Knick games he had been on TNT for years and never showed any interest in the Knicks. I still think he was auditioning for a national play-by-play gig, a la Mike Breen and Gus Johnson. (Quote)

I thought he was looking for the same gold key from Dolan that Isiah got...he was painfully fawning on the team. I remember one game Nenad Kristic was about 8-8 on wide open 10 footers and all he was saying was "he's not iwlt chamberlain" and sort of belittling Breen or whoever who suggested like maybe guarding him, since at that time Kristic was actually competent. That being said he also did make these painfully contorted attmepts at analysis like constantly referring to Nate as a "pace changer." Either way he was painful.

Good work, Brian, but you missed a biggie that I personally remember: They signed the overrated stiff Pat Cummings as a FA in 1984, and gave up a 2nd and a 3rd rounder as compensation. One of those picks turned out to be Mark Price, 4-time all-star and one of the best pure PGs of his time until injuries beat him down.

Hey Landry Fields admirers: go vote for him on the NBA site's rookie ladder - he's been moved up to #2, ahead of Wall, but they've put it to the fans whether he belongs there or it's Wall's spot.

It's either him or Wall, no other choice, so GO VOTE!

By the way, as a quick "What If...?" what do you think the Knicks' lineup (more or less) would look like with Lebron and Amar'e, presuming they only took slight paycuts?

Toney D
Lebron
Gallo
Chandler
Amare

With a bench of Walker (he was signable even if Lebron took the max), Fields, Rautins and....uh...who? Big Z?
