I appreciate the use of comparative stats to compare Lin to other, more established players -- in this case, James Harden. In the spirit of tonight's game against Cleveland, check out this post from Basketball I.Q., which uses more accessible alternative stats to compare Kyrie Irving to the rookie Derrick Rose:

The utility of these relatively simple stats is high-yield -- also check out, from a Basketball I.Q. post from last year, a draft assessment of Irving, in which his collegiate career was compared to Rose in an effort to predict his professional arc:

This site seems to produce some pretty simple, and validated, alternative stats.

hoolahoop:

For some reason, the high powered pieces (Amare, Melo) have had more trouble fitting together than all the rotational guys from the Lost and Found. The Lin streak was pure chemistry.

I don't know about chemistry as much as it was everyone in the rotation busting their asses like they were a mid-major playing in the second round of the NCAAs against a more talented team every night. even in this shortened and crammed year, the NBA season is a marathon, and only very young superfreak athletes can generally go all out all season and still be in peak form in June. guys like Chandler and Amare and Melo know this, I think this is also a cause of their issues so far (I think that Chandler can still get much better, hard to believe).

as for chemistry, I am excited to see Chandler and Baron play together for I guess the first time in the NBA? they are long time homies from Compton, Baron was I guess something of a role model for Chandler growing up, Tyson has known him since he was a freshman in high school (!).

Spending a little more time at Grantland….

Got to say I loved this interview with Chris Paul. Might be the smartest sounding player I have ever heard, not surprising with how he plays.

Amazing to hear him talking about getting a 2-1 for one at the end of quarters, etc. Also, talking about Reggie Evans and how valuable it is to have a guy on the team who doesn’t care about scoring but can still be productive.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-_G7mQR-80

The first question comes from Landry, and is worth a laugh or two. If Landry was as talented as he is charismatic and likeable, he'd be Kevin Durant. That said, he's my favorite Knick to root for. I didn't think I'd enjoy rooting for any Knicks team more than last season's team before Melo, but I have to say I love this team more than I did that one. Here's to Lin vs Irving tomorrow.

jon abbey: but that doesn’t mean chemistry magically appears. my rule of thumb in normal seasons is it takes 40 games for a major acquisition to get fully assimilated, and that is with normal practice time.

unfortunately Cleveland only played one guy (Jamison) more than 27 minutes tonight, 9 guys played 20+ minutes, so they should be reasonably rested for tomorrow.

Chemistry is funny. Sometimes it happens instantly. Sometimes it never comes at all. And everything in between.

For some reason, the high powered pieces (Amare, Melo) have had more trouble fitting together than all the rotational guys from the Lost and Found. The Lin streak was pure chemistry. And since Melo got here we've been waiting for this team to gel.
