Great game last night. Some observations:

SVG is not a good coach.

Rashard Lewis is very impressive.

Perkins has been tremendous at denying Howard down in the post, forcing him into those ugly fadeaway line-drive jump hooks. No matter what he says about SVG's coaching, Howard's current limitations on offense are being exposed by Perkins, which has something to do with why he isn't getting the ball. He doesn't seem to have the bulk to power through to the basket a la Shaq. He needs to add something in the 10-15 ft range to his game.

Steph really lit it up in the 4th quarter. Painful to watch because I hate the Celts, but part of me felt good for him.

Chris Mullin is officially a free agent. We know Walsh loves him and there is, technically, a position available with the Knicks. Do we think there is a Chris Mullin era about to begin in NY, and if so, is that a good thing?

Mullin has NY ties and I always liked him as a player, even though his resume in the front office isn't exactly sparkling. Personally, though, if Walsh does want to share duties, I think Glen Grunwald is one of the few people from the former regime worth keeping around. He was a realist drowning in Isiah's distorted franchise view. I don't think replacing Grunwald with Mullin will make much difference, now or in the future.

the season is just way too long, that's why guys get hurt, and that's why fans lose interest. at some point one of the American sports leagues is going to realize that they need to shrink their product, less games, maybe even less teams. less games would help boost attendance, as there will be fewer total tickets, and the games remaining will be more meaningful.

dunno if this will actually ever happen, but it should. the NBA regular season could be 60 games and six weeks shorter, and MLB could easily shrink to 140 regular season games.

also, WHY WON'T BOSTON DIE ALREADY?

I don't agree about parity. I think the bottom line is that there are only so many elite talents to go around. You can't salary cap your way to parity because at the end of the day the teams employing Lebron, Paul, and Howard are going to have a massive advantage going forward. That's not an original thought but I think it has some merit.

I also feel cheated by Manu being out. Less so Yao.

I will say, I take distinct pleasure in Kobe's relatively ordinary performance so far against the Rockets, good day to be a hater, although it's mortal lock that he comes out and makes me look dumb with 17-24 back in LA....

Does anyone else feel cheated this playoff season? No Yao/T-Mac. No Garnett. No Ginobili. The two teams that were best suited to upset the #1 seed in the West played each other in the first round. Are we going to have to wait until the 3rd round for some real matchups.

In my post about the CBA, I talked about how the new agreement could make parity. Looking at these playoffs, I've become more convinced this would be better for the league.

How fortunate for the Lakers! No T-Mac. No Deke. No Yao. Houston's defenders matched up perfectly with LA (Artest, Battier, Yao). I don't see the same with Denver.

Yeah, I feel bad for Houston. They really put a pretty good team together. But Yao must have his yearly foot injury.

Also, I continue to hate Carmelo Anthony.

Yao done for the rest of the playoffs with a broken foot. Looks like Houston is done as well. They would have been competitive if Deke were still available. I don't see Landry as a full time replacement at Center. What a shame for this team.

Just watched the Orlando game, and about the only thing I got out of it was that the Magic crowd at a playoff game averages about 52 years of age. That and those refs seemed to want to get the bigs out of the game early (just about everyone over 6'10 had 5 fouls by the 38th minute.)
