Playoff Game Thread: Knicks vs. Pacers Game 5

The Knicks already had to feel good about heading back to the Garden to try to take care of business and at the very least force the Pacers to clinch the series in Indiana. However, things changed dramatically a little while ago when the news came out that George Hill suffered a concussion during the last game. Hill will miss tonight’s game and since you never know how concussions go, he might very well miss the rest of the series. The Pacers’ third-string point guard is Ben Hansbrough (the Pacers have cornered the market on Hansbroughs), but I bet they’ll play Lance Stephenson as the back-up point guard behind DJ Augustin. The drop-off from Hill to Augustin is steep, so this is major news for the Knicks. If Felton (and the returning Prigs) could perhaps attack Augustin and get him into some foul trouble, the Pacers might just fall apart.

At the very least, let’s hope that Jason Kidd (who will remain in the rotation) at least out-scores Hill.

This game was already winnable but now it just got a lot easier. No excuses tonight, the Knicks have to get it done!

Let’s go Knicks!

At the risk of repeating myself from the previous thread, loss of Hill is a game-changer. They have serious depth issues. Backup pg is now the lesser Hansborough. Can’t imagine he’s going to play. That means a lot more Augustin and a lot more Sam Young, and those guys suck, plain and simple.

  2. Brian Cronin Post author

Definitely. Hill is a huge key for them. Most of their back-ups are terrible. They just luckily play their starters a lot. Now that changes. Great turn of events for the Knicks. Augustin is not awful, but he is much worse than Hill.

  3. thenamestsam

Oh man, Vogel says they can play Hansborough and Augustin in the same backcourt. I mean why not just forfeit the game and have it over with?

  4. Brian Cronin Post author

It is so funny that they seriously have both Hansbroughs. Such pandering.

  5. nyk8806

It really is a game changer. He was a key piece of their already challenged offense. Combined with Woodson figuring out that 1+1=2, I think we got this series. Not to get too far ahead of myself, but I just hope the narrative doesn’t become “overrated Knicks team barely ekes out win against undermanned, gritty Pacers, destined to be swept by Heat.”

Just wait til next season if JR finds his shot and becomes a stud for the rest of the postseason: next year our 15th man on the bench will be Chris Smith (or try the Suns w/ the Morris twins).

  8. nicos

I’m predicting a big game from Amar’e or at least as big as you can get in 15 minutes- maybe 12 and 6 with a blocked shot or two. Of course he might have 5 fouls too. More importantly, with Hill out those threes just got a whole lot easier as he’s a tough guy for our guards to shoot over. Pacers will still hang around but the Knicks should win this one.

  9. johnlocke

This is either a huge come up….or a kick in the nuts loss. Here’s to a huge come-up. Step up required by every single Knick!

It is interesting how “come up” apparently has made it as a term people use. I don’t have a problem with the term, just find it interesting.

  11. johnlocke

Haha, hey I’m not THAT old man. When I’m nodding my head in agreement with Barkley about how turrible the Knicks have been…it just feels really wrong and weird.

Hehe, like I said, I don’t have a problem with the term. Just was a bit surprised to see it used in normal conversation.

As far as I’m concerned the pundits can say whatever they want about us if it means we get to Miami. I’ll take it faster than a heartbeat.

Agree with this, and dammit I still have hope that Chandler, Kidd, and JR can turn it around with a bit more time. At this point I’d be pretty damn satisfied with a tough out against Miami. For the first time in days I’m starting to have some hope for the team

  15. Juany8

I like Mark Jackson as a coach. He’s made some good adjustments these playoffs and he’s gotten the team to have good defense without a lot of good defenders. I’d trade him Woodson for him lol.

Would also be nice if he could bring God on our side too.

  17. Brian Cronin Post author

Jackson has been surprisingly good in Golden State. I love watching him get mad, though, so I don’t think I want him coaching the Knicks.

  18. Juany8

Love the way the team is playing right now, hope they can keep it up for the full 48

  19. Juany8

Shump just got decked in the face for no call. What the hell does it take to get a foul against this team? Pacers won’t react well to getting the opposite treatment next series lol.

  20. Brian Cronin Post author

This is pretty much the perfect way to start the game. Indiana is terrible at comebacks.

  21. Juany8

Have the opposite feel of what I had this morning. Think the Pacers practically punt this away, using the excuses of losing Hill and having game 6 at home. I have a feeling they’re going to have monster turnover numbers tonight.

  22. Juany8

Lol the general Knicks fan anxiety is getting to me, with all this happening I can’t even imagine how much of a nightmare it would be to actually lose this game. I don’t think I could handle watching basketball for a while

Ha! I know exactly what you mean.

  24. Spree8nyk8

    Knicks4Eva:
    Why’d Melo get a T? I missed it.

idk indiana falls down and awful lot to minimal contact. Augustine got fouled on a drive and melo closed out on him after the foul was called and barely touched him and augustine fell down. so they gave a tech to melo.

  25. Brian Cronin Post author

Sure is nice to see that at a time in the game besides them down big with less than a minute left!

  26. Brian Cronin Post author

Indy is bad at coming back, but the lead actually has to be big enough for it to be a “comeback.” The Knicks can’t dick around with them and leave them within striking distance.

Definitely so, but at least this is the best they have looked in what seems like quite a while.

  28. Nick C.

Love the intensity. Hate the rim outs and refs. The Knicks should, better, crush when Augustin goes out.

  29. Juany8

Dammit JR, just when I was starting to have some hope for you. How the hell is EVERYTHING rimming out.

  30. AnonymousODG

Wow, IND playing like hot garbage. We should be blowing them out had even half of those shots bounced in.

  31. Juany8

Really don’t get why the Knicks don;t just run a Melo pick and roll every time down the floor. The post ups aren’t working, it allows the Pacers big men to camp the paint and meet him at the rim, so Paul George is playing high up on him to limit the jumper and give up the drive into the teeth of the defense.

  32. Juany8

Amar’e is so good at drawing fouls. On the other hand, I am terrified of a lineup including Copeland and Amare on defense.

  33. yellowboy90

Cope and Amar’e arguing defensive assignments is like looking at to blind men fighting over keys to the car

  34. Juany8

Amare is frankly playing fantastic. If he can keep playing like this in 15 minute bursts it could be a pretty big boost.

  35. Juany8

For what it’s worth, the Knicks are playing their hearts out. This is the Knicks team I think we all hoped would show up tonight. They need to keep it up.

  36. AnonymousODG

That was very smart, JR. We hadn’t used our 20 sec timeout. Better to not chance another jumpball.

  37. AnonymousODG

I’m starting to feel ambitious. I want to win… and I want us to bang up the Pacers something harsh to give us a good fighting chance to steal Game 6.

  38. Spree8nyk8

So if Melo fronts West and west grabs him and pulls him back it’s ok but if Melo doesn’t allow him to pull him it’s a foul on Melo? I’m not understanding this call which has been fairly repetitive throughout this series.

  39. er

    Juany8:
Cmon Melo, don’t force it right now.

the problem is when they play slow, if they take quick shots even if they are threes they are a much better offense

  40. Nick C.

I wish the lead was bigger because it feels like it should be a dozen. But really who does Indiana have that can go off from outside w/o Hill?

  41. johnlocke

The worst is when he passes up the open shot to shoot a worse contested one or drive into pacers..

    AnonymousODG:
    Shump needs to stop shooting.

  42. AnonymousODG

    AnonymousODG:
    Shump needs to stop shooting.

Sources tell me KMart switched their headbands in last timeout and Melo just realized it, threw it down in disgust with an, “Ewwwww.”

  43. nyk8806

crap refs have built up a 14-7 foul ratio, 5-16 ratio on FTs…we’re lucky the ball don’t lie.

  44. Juany8

6 point lead with us playing much better than the past 2 games. I’ll take it, even though it should be bigger.

  45. johnlocke

I like the way cope is playing, stat giving us something, Kidd planted on the bench…looks like Woody finally doing everything we have been screaming about since Game 2

  46. bocker84

Ok guys… that has got to be the greatest JR Smith ballet jump ever. I mean what form.

  47. bidiong

Hey, they’re playing hard, that’s all we can ask. The shooting isn’t quite there yet but they look like they have life.

  48. AnonymousODG

    bidiong:

Should bring in Cope for Shump.

  49. er

    AnonymousODG:
Wow… Melo with no free throws in the first half.

he doesnt get 50/50 calls so he needs to adjust his mindset. I ve noticed he doesnt get the pump fake and jump into the defender call against PG

  50. Brian Cronin Post author

Overall that was a very good first half. Six is not big enough for me to be totally comfortable, but I am feeling very good about their chances right now.

  51. yellowboy90

er: he doesnt get 50/50 calls so he needs to adjust his mindset. I ve noticed he doesnt get the pump fake and jump into the defender call against PG

    or 60/40 or 70/30 or 80/20

  52. AnonymousODG

    johnlocke:
Melo holding the ball too much….

It’s not so much that he’s got the ball all the time… it’s that he’s not making quick decisions with the ball in the post. Melo is very, very patient. Too patient… unlike say, STAT who is lightning-fast with his decisions.

Against most defenders who aren’t used to his strength or quick pullup jumper, it works to his favor to milk the possession since facing the basket solidifies its position in your mind should you have to take a tough fadeaway. But West and Hibbert are really good at maintaining composure, and it’s just not working. Melo’s hesitation move ends up making him look hesitant.

He needs more outside screens from Chandler and more straight pull up jumpers. The kind of jumpers that Felton has been inexplicably missing this game.

  53. AnonymousODG

AnonymousODG: He needs more outside screens from Chandler and more straight pull up jumpers. The kind of jumpers that Felton has been inexplicably missing this game.

Dammit. That first possession is exactly what I was talking about except it was a poor screen. Blargh.

  54. Juany8

Knicks still getting good looks, if they ever start raining those 3’s this game is over

  55. Juany8

These refs are fucking terrible and have been all series. This is outright pathetic

  56. hegotgame

THAT WAS A RIDICULOUS FOUL ON TYSON!! and as I type huge make up call on Hibbert lol

  57. Juany8

It’s not a goddam make up call if Chandler has to go to the bench and Hibbert gets to stay in…

  58. hegotgame

Ok I think the fluff call on George was the make up cos Hibbert really did put his shoulder straight into shumps face lol.

  59. bobneptune

Watching this game is like having a root canal….. setting basketball back 20 years.

  60. hegotgame

That pass Melo just made was huge. The value in gettin hibbert reacting and moving into a slightly more reckless play is much bigger than the pts Martin makes. Love it!

  61. hegotgame

Mahinmi was moving so much on that goddamn screen. How is that not fucking obvious??

  62. hegotgame

COPEEE!!! Just did his best JR impression.. huge shot to lift my fragile spirits, then horrible charge to bring me right back down to earth.

  63. Juany8

I can’t believe we were just having a discussion about Lin this morning. Felton has been awesome in the playoffs

  64. hegotgame

I love everything that happened leading up to that Copeland lay-up. Yes, everything.

  65. yellowboy90

As a player name Gus would say
    “Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

    yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh”

  66. Juany8

You know what, I’m gonna give Woodson massive credit here. Jason Kidd only played 5 minutes, Copeland is getting real minutes, and the players are getting good looks even if theyre not quite going in. He looked like shit in game 4 but you gotta give him credit for manning up and making the proper adjustments, which are the exact opposite of his last adjustments. Coaches can grow up in the playoffs too

  67. er

    hegotgame:

ray outrebounding two guys got me uncomfortably excited

  68. Brian Cronin Post author

Seriously, though, this is what they need. Indy can’t react to big deficits. They always fold.

  69. BigBlueAL

Got home at half-time. Very pleased to be seeing the effort this quarter, if they are going to go down at least go down fighting. I can live with that.

  70. Brian Cronin Post author

They’re playing Gerald Green, for crying out loud! They’ve basically given up. Awesome.

  71. Juany8

All the Knicks need is to hold on this game, and then have one of those awesome games we all know they’re capable of, when they 3’s are raining down and the opposing defense loses all hope of competing. I’m starting to seriously believe

  72. AnonymousODG

We need to keep running the pick n’ roll to death against Hibbert. That guy is deathly scared of getting 5 fouls before the fourth quarter.

  73. yellowboy90

the knicks are missing so many open and good looks. I do like Woodson going away from Kidd. Now watch after the time out he is back in. lol.

  74. smokinjoe

Im telling you that Cope putback..I finally, finally felt some Knicks heart! Damn that was sweet..call me naive, I believe

  75. hegotgame

Woah did u see Felton catch that block right now after the beautifiul feed to KMart?? I knew something was up, this dude is clearly in super saiyan mode or some shit. How do you catch a ball coming from that close at such a high speed and also out of ur line of sight….

er: ray outrebounding two guys got me uncomfortably excited

  76. smokinjoe

Man Kenyon can actually CATCH THE BALL rolling to the hoop and finish..TAKE SOME NOTES CHANDLER!!

  77. AnonymousODG

… I don’t think we should be featuring Copeland in the post. He’s better as a perimeter threat who occasionally crashes the boards.

  78. nyk8806

wow…just realized that the pacers only have 4 FGs outside the paint up to now. Their offense is just UGLY. Thank Mark Jackson’s assistant coach for that concussion.

  79. Brian Cronin Post author

Ten points might as well be a million against this shitty Pacers offense.

  80. bidiong

The Knicks are better than the Pacers, we all know this. Get this game and all bets are off for the rest of the series.

  81. smokinjoe

Knicks starting to understand what it takes to win in the playoffs. .they just thought they could run and gun their way to the ECF..gotta fight every single minute

  82. Frank O.

Okay, I’m glad Carmelo is shooting, and that he made that last shot, but he isn’t scoring in the flow. All of his shots recently are very hard.
He catches the ball, dribbles or jab steps and the rRest of the team stands around. If he makes it great, but if he doesn’t they’re vulnerable.
Kenny smithis right: the Knicks, and Melo, aren’t making th extra pass to make scoring easier.

  83. Juany8

I freaking love Raymond Felton right now. Did not deserve all the shit he got this season.

  84. mr.JayP

kinda upsetting to think that the dynamics of our offense could have been changed with just a few rotation changes….

  85. hegotgame

God I love Copeland’s poise. He has made Woodson look extremely foolish. The dude shoots like he’s at home or in the gym. Same approach all the time, and thats great to see from a 2nd string microwave offense bench player. I feel very confident with him in the floor.. Now that George is out though we gotta step righht on their necks and not let up. At all.

  86. hegotgame

GREAT double by anthony, lovely example of what George being on the bench does to the pacers offensive spacing, as crap as it already is.

  87. nyk8806

    Juany8:
Damn getting super nervous about this game. It’s far too close for comfort.

    seriously…they’ve missed 11 FTs too.

  88. cgreene

Melo has been extremely mediocre. The 29-13 FT discrep is pretty crazy but man do we commit dumb fouls

  89. Brian Cronin Post author

The crowd is loud, but not like I’ve heard it in he past. I blame ticket prices

That’s the same thing everywhere (well, in the big cities, of course).

  90. cgreene

I will say that even tho Melo hasn’t played well he is stepping up and wants the ball

  91. Juany8

Lol Reggie Miller is pointing out exactly why the Knicks lost game 1. Those fouls weren’t being called, so the Knicks got fucked and Hibbert looked like Bill Russell.

  92. er

26 pts on 25 shots. I’d take that any day.

His help defense has been good too.

  97. smokinjoe

We look to win this game but Melo is still working so hard to get shots..I really agree with I think itwas Kenny Smiths analysis that Melo has to make his decision to shoot or drive QUICKLY..too much waiting when he gets the ball

    But…. Melo for MVP!!!!!

  99. cgreene

It’s just insane to me that that play by Hibbert on Chandler is no longer a foul in the NBA. That interpretation actually makes defenses and physicality in the league comparable to the 90s.

  100. AnonymousODG

Why is Woodson leaving Chandler in. He has 5 fouls anyway and can’t play hard defense. Ugh.

  101. Knicks4Eva

Actually, I think we did play fairly well, given the history of the series and the nature of the officiating.

We didn’t make shots like we do in the regular season, but the closeouts, hustle, and turnover control were excellent.

I have some (limited) hope for Saturday night.

    F*** the Pacers.

  102. Brian Cronin Post author

It sucks that I have to root for a dude’s brain to be fucked up, because this game likely goes a whole lot differently if they had Hill in there.

  103. cgreene

There is nothing about this game that gives me confidence the Knicks will win game 6. Both teams played terribly. The Knicks were slightly less terrible probably because of the first 5 minutes of the game. Indiana missed 12 FTs. If this is in Indy the Knicks lose.

  105. yellowboy90

I haven’t slept all night or day. Thank you knicks for tucking me in with a nice bed time story.

  106. AnonymousODG

Well after tonight, even Woodson can’t be stupid enough to not give Copeland at least 15 minutes in the next game when our offense is stalling.

Less Shump. More Cope. Less Kidd. More Prigs. JR will be JR and we’ll live or die by his performance. He doesn’t even have to be good. Just not be terribad.

Hope Chandler’s ok. Not looking forward to STAT at the 5 if Chandler’s time is limited.

The Pacers have scored 82 points or less in 3 of 5 games this series. That fact alone is enough to give us hope on Saturday. Especially if Hill is out again.

thank you…..also copeland plays now. SMH

  113. Bison

    Whew, what a relief!

The fouls on Paul George were the key tonight. Melo got a bit more space as a consequence, so he could answer whenever Indiana answered. When our lead shrank to 4 points, I started worrying, but Melo made his shots.

A good win (any win is good at this time of year), but we should play better than this.

  114. ephus

This night is a great time to be a Knick fan. Winning at home to extend the season. Melo is the center of this team. Stat gave some quality minutes. Copeland and Prigioni dominated for parts of the third quarter. JR Smith looked better.

    This team is dangerous.

  115. smokinjoe

Who has a shot of JR shooting that ballet 3 pointer where he got fouled right before the half? Just saw a replay.. that was awesome..total JR

  116. Juany8

    Brian Cronin:
Jason Kidd still couldn’t outscore George Hill.

Still think the more fun stat is that Novak has played 1 minute and is outscoring Kidd this series.

  117. cgreene

I understand that you are saying their offense sucks but our offense really really sucks too. There were a couple of stretches where we looked in rhythm but this game was very losable. Pacers made some real boneheaded plays. It’s been 8 games since Melo has played at an elite level minus the 2nd half of game 2. And Chandler is not himself for the entire playoffs and I don’t suddenly expect him to go out and get 15 and 15 on Saturday. I’m not saying there is no chance but we aren’t playing well and I don’t see them winning the way they have been playing in Indy. Hope I’m wrong.

  118. Brian Cronin Post author

paul george is a TO machine, we need to exploit this more

That’s where Hill comes in. When he isn’t there to handle the ball, Goerge and Stephenson have to do so more and that’s not their strength at all. Hill is a lot like Felton. Neither are star point guards, but you take them away and their teams completely fall apart.

  119. Brian Cronin Post author

Pacers made some real boneheaded plays.

Something we’ve seen a lot of this playoffs from many teams. Like Fisher throwing the ball away down three at the end of Game 5 last night.

  120. DRed

ugly game with all the fouls, but it was certainly better and I’ll take it. Very good team effort on the glass to keep the rebounds close. We’ve still got a shot!

  121. bocker84

Man I would do anything to get the GIF of JR and Felton hugging it out on that Tyson block. Brought a real tear to my eye…

ugly game with all the fouls, but it was certainly better and I’ll take it. Very good team effort on the glass to keep the rebounds close. We’ve still got a shot!

Oh yeah, this was definitely a much better game for the Knicks than the previous few games. I do love the rebounding effort. But overall, this was more about how shitty the Pacers played than anything. But that could easily (I mean EASILY) repeat itself in Games 6 and 7 if they don’t have Hill. Even with Hill, we just need to see the Knicks actually have a good game and they’ll beat the Pacers. When all is even, the Knicks are better.

There is nothing about this game that gives me confidence the Knicks will win game 6. Both teams played terribly. The Knicks were slightly less terrible probably because of the first 5 minutes of the game. Indiana missed 12 FTs. If this is in Indy the Knicks lose.

    Think about it.

Hill was a late scratch. Indiana missed 14 free throws. Turned the ball over 19 times. Paul George and Hibbert were in foul trouble all evening and Melo still shot a piss poor 12 for 28. JR shot < 40% (again!)

The Knicks only chance of winning in Indy is if Hill is maintained in a John Beck/Moonpie (from "Rollerball") coma and Chandler can't play.

Yeah and when did we last play really well. We’ve had one excellent half in the series. In the first quarter we missed 13/14 shots with a lot of great looks. We should have been up 15 there. We are just shooting so badly.

The other side of that is the Pacers only chance to win is to have Melo and JR play a ninth straight bad game. We’ve had poor stretches. But at this point, the law of averages (and the punishment their roster has taken today) is probably making IND fans sh1t their pants right about now.

Shooting tends to regress to the mean. I’m more worried about stuff like effort and defense and that was all there tonight. The shots will eventually fall. It is just a question of whether they’ll fall before the Knicks are eliminated.

Really, though, Hill is the key. I said before and I do feel distasteful doing it, but I’ll say again – I have to hope his brain is still sort of fucked up. Nothing life-altering, of course, just enough to keep him off the court for two more games. I don’t think Indy can win without him.

  127. jon abbey

that was an ugly game, but of course we’ll take it. so many guys on both teams banged up to various degrees now, not sure if these two teams could combine for one healthy roster to go against MIA at this point.

nice to see signs of life from Shumpert again, and of course Copeland getting a chance finally and delivering. one thing I’ve been meaning to say for a while but keep forgetting is that if Jason Kidd was a coach, he would have benched Kidd the player weeks ago.

I like that our season has come down to the question: can we beat indiana in a must game on their home court? That’s a fair test of who we are.

    Brian,

Even if Hill cannot play I doubt Indy will miss 14 free throws again. Hibbert and George will be far less likely to be in foul trouble at home. Indy will also have more than a few hours to devise and practice offensive adjustments if Hill cannot play.

The chances of the Knicks having a “good game” is pretty slim since they have probably played about 1.5 good quarters of the 20 so far. At home, with Hill out and Hibbert and george in foul trouble, the Knicks didn’t play a single good quarter. That’s a fact even though they won the game.

They just stunk a little less and Indy missed 14 free throws.

I have to give Reggie credit, he is really trying to be even-handed.

It reminded me of when Cal Ripken called the Orioles/Yankees in the playoffs last year and was probably the most impartial guy in the booth (John Smoltz is quite a Yankee hater).

I disagree completely. imho reggie is one sided as they come.

I thought Reggie was fair the first two games he called, tonight he was a lot closer to Heinsohn territory. it’s fucking ridiculous to have him doing these games instead of someone more obviously neutral like Steve Kerr, at least let Clyde be in the booth as a third guy. :)

If it goes to a Game 7 I assume they will use the team that will announce the Eastern Conference Finals which I assume will be Marv, Kerr and yes Reggie. Pretty sure that threesome has done the conference finals for TNT past couple of seasons along with the All-Star Game so again Im assuming that’s their #1 announcing team.

This is how desperate we are as Knick fans to see a silver lining in the coming tornado.

Shump shooting 2 for 10 with one assist, no trips to the line and zero steals along with 5 personals is now regarded as “signs of life”.

Many can we turn a sows ear into a silk purse when we want to. I do give the guy full marks for gutting it out, for sure.

  136. jon abbey

I haven’t even looked at the box score yet, just very glad to see him seemingly healthy and throwing his body around, since with the knee scare and his play last game, it looked like he was done for the year. he may have had no steals but he caused at least a few turnovers.

  137. Spree8nyk8

paul george was starting to show signs of getting hot, he made 2-3 shots and made a few nice passes until Shumpert came in. After Shumperts insertion in the 4th quarter Indiana never made another push. I’m not saying it’s all Shumpert, but I agree with Abbey when he says that he was showing signs of life.

After making that 3 pter to bring it within 4 (Shump defending), Paul George broke Shump’s ankles on the subsequent possession and inexplicably airballed it. Shump bit on his juke so hard that he literally fell down. His defense was terrible and we might very well have lost the game had George just sunk that wide open jumper.

After that, IND just started throwing the ball away and letting West shoot mid-range jumpers.

Come on. The three pointer was on Chandler who didn’t show at all on the screen- was he really worried about Hibbert rolling to the basket from the three point line? And George did break Shumpert’s ankles but step back jumpers off of the dribble aren’t exactly his game so it’s no surprise he bricked it. Shumpert has done a great job on George all series.

It makes me feel good being objective. The Knicks have at least a 30% chance in Indy if Indy has no point guard.

I was in college during the Knicks championship runs. I know what championship caliber Knicks BB looks like. This ain’t it……

Also, glad to see ruru is still among the living….. :-)

Oh, come on, 30% without Hill? I could see 30% with Hill (I think it would be roughly 40%), but without Hill I think the Knicks have to be favorites.

  144. jon abbey

I don’t know, NY has looked terrible in IND all season, especially the three games with Melo.

  145. Brian Cronin Post author

You wouldn’t have them as favorites, though, if the Pacers don’t have Hill?

  146. jon abbey

I don’t know, gun to my head I’d still pick the Pacers, expecting someone like Gerald Green or T Hansbrough to go nuts. sure hope he’s out, though…

  147. jon abbey

do the Knicks have a single guy both healthy and playing well? Melo, Felton, Chandler, Shumpert all banged up. that doesn’t bode well for a road win.

  148. ephus

For me, the most important stretch in this game were the four possessions for the Knicks at about 10 minutes to go in the fourth when the Knicks drew three straight fouls, basically putting Indiana over the limit and their top defenders in major foul trouble.

And the second best JR Smith moment was when he pulled the ball up in the last minute instead of attacking the basket. The shot at the end of the first half demonstrated that there is nothing JR Smith cannot do on a basketball court. Using his head at the end of the second half demonstrated (to me, at least) that he may be ready to start playing to his capability again.

This is a great time to be a Knick fan!
