Playoff Game Thread: Knicks vs. Pacers Game 2

Here we are, the first Game 2 of the second round for the Knicks since 2000!

In all seriousness, the Knicks are in a hole after losing Game 1 but they can right things to a major degree with a win tonight. The key here, as it was in Game 1, is to play stronger to start. We all know that the Knicks tend to turn it on late (they have done so in pretty much every game in the playoffs so far), but their problem has been that they have started slowly in pretty much every game in the playoffs. That is okay against a lesser team like the Celtics, but it is not going to fly against a team like the Pacers, who have enough offensive firepower to go with their strong defense that they are hard to come back against.

Steve Novak might play tonight. It would be nice if he could hit some shots. The Knicks need someone other than Raymond Felton to make some shots.

Obviously, also Tyson Chandler, Melo and JR Smith all need to play better. I have faith that at least two of them will come through tonight. If they do, the Knicks should win this one and take the series to Indiana where they hope to at least split the series and get home court back.

Let’s go Knicks!

In 2000 Knicks lost Game 1 in the 2nd round and still won the series. Granted they didnt lose Game 1 at home but whatever lol.

Will unfortunately miss most of the game, should be able to watch 4th quarter hopefully. Got a good feeling Knicks win this tonight. Hopefully next time I read this thread everyone is happy and celebrating a Knicks win lol.

    6)less bitching to the refs

I need this. Come on good JR and good Chandler and hockey assist melo! also paging Jason Kidd, jason kidd? How soon will we know what lengths this team is willing to “adjust” tonight..i hope it’s evident from the start and we go nuts first half and then come out even crazier second half..no lag time let’s do this!!!@

  10. nicos

I’d actually like to see the Knicks try a pick and pop or two with Chandler for 15 footers. If he could just hit a couple (and he’s hit a few this season) it would really screw up the Pacers pnr defense. You obviously can’t have a steady diet of it but if you can just get Hibbert a step or two further out of the paint it’ll pay big dividends.

  11. johnlocke

+ a sober, jump shot hitting, mid range jumper hitting JR

+ double and recover in the post, and harass Hibbert and West into TOs

    + more transition buckets

I’m just going to try to enjoy this whatever happens. I’ve been waiting a long time for round 2. It’s kind of been championship or bust lately for me and most folks I read here, but, all you can really ask for is hope and I have a lot of it and a lot of good memories from this season already. Hopefully the best is yet to come.

Anyone here watching on NBA with International League Pass ??? I always seem to get the announcers for the other team… does anyone know whats up with never getting the Knicks announcers ?

  14. d-mar

Woody must have read the P and T article about not taking it all the way into Hibbert. Prigs and Felton with the midrange shots/floaters.

  15. NYKNJ

Even with the jumpers the offense still looks more fluid. Hopefully they can keep it up

  16. yellowboy90

Hibbert goes straight up but comes down with the arms and George was pushing Melo.

  17. er

So I see the continuation of the policy to refuse to call a foul on Hibbert with Melo

  18. Sibenik

    NYKNJ:
Don’t fees the troll just ignore him. He will get bored soon enough

It’ll never be soon enough :-)

  19. Juany8

Instead of watching the ball, watch Chandler after a shot goes up and see what he does on the boards. Suddenly our rebounding woes will make sense…

    arro:

Why in the name of Jebus’ butthole is MSG blacked out from broadcasting this game?

  21. er

dogrufus: If he’s actually this good at defense he’s DPOY.He’s completely shut us down at the rim.

I hope you’re right about him getting friendly whistles, but I’m not really seeing it.

The problem is his arms, he is blatantly hitting him. I don’t care how straight up and down his body is

  22. AnonymousODG

    Juany8:

Hibbert’s B1tch has allowed easy layups and given up offensive rebounds. The only reason we’re winning is because IND is playing sloppy as heck. Hopefully, Hibbert’s B1tch will have a break out game tonight.

  23. Juany8

It’s crazy, but the Knicks made pretty much the exact adjustments many smart people were asking them to make, and similar to what Miami did last year. They are shooting floaters and mid range jumpers instead of hoping (and then bitching) for calls against Hibbert. They are passing more, and Melo is making quicker decisions than I’ve seen him make in several games. Seeing the floor a bit better too.

  24. Sebas94

How is K mart’s shot better than Chandlers? Has it always been that way, career wise?

  25. Juany8

Best move of the year by Shumpert. Holy shit that was an amazing behind the back dribble in traffic.

  26. bobneptune

If the knicks continue to play with this sort of defensive intensity, they won’t lose another game.

  27. NYKNJ

Knicks should be trapping off the pick and roll everytime. Their bigs look lost with the ball that far away from the basket

  28. JK47

We have a 9-2 edge in turnovers but still only a 5 point lead, because we allow Indiana to shoot 57 percent.

The turnovers are nice but the poor rim protection is a significant problem.

  29. DS

Shump looks amazing on O. Other than that dunk, he’s penetrating and passing really nicely. I hope he keeps it up.

  30. Juany8

Shump with the JR shot selection…. and he makes it anyways. Loving the game he’s having.

  31. Juany8

Don’t get the point of talking about high shooting when you’re turning the ball over all the time. You can get offensive rebounds off missed shots lol, a live ball turnover is by far the worst ending an offense can have.

  32. Juany8

Lol 2 scored baskets is “asserting yourself on the offensive end”. Can you be a bigger home Reggie Miller?

  33. AnonymousODG

    Juany8:
Well at least Chandler is showing intensity with his cheers

Naturally, Hibbert’s B1tch only has 1 rebound for the half.

  34. airchibundo507

Tyson is useless out there. JR has made a number of poor decisions on offense, mainly turnovers and forced shots. Gotta like the way Melo is taking mainly high-percentage shots within the offense and looking for open teammates.

He’d have like 4 assists if Shump and JR would’ve just hit their open looks.

  36. maxwell_3g

If JR had played even remotely reasonably, this would be a double digit game. he NEEDS to get it together

  37. DS

    maxwell_3g:

Yeah. He looks like doo-doo. And it’s difficult having him and ‘Melo looking for their shots. I know JR can turn it around on a dime, but I’d prefer Prigs at this point.

  38. d-mar

Did JR chip a bone when he elbowed Terry in the head? His shot is completely broken

  39. DS

    Douglas:
I don’t know why I even bothered to watch the TNT halftime show.

Yeah, Chuck ripped into the Knicks immediately, that should’ve been your cue.

  40. er

    JK47:
Melo 10 PT on 11 FGA
Smith 7 PT on 10 FGA

Funny guys like you talked about how Tyson is so awesome yet when he’s stunk it up in the playoffs for 2 yrs, nothing

  41. airchibundo507

Of course we should still double team West to prevent fouls on Melo, but I don’t wanna double Hibbert at all. He’s tall enough to see over our perimeter defenders and make decent passes. Chandler isn’t providing anything in the help defense or rebounding departments. At the very least he should be able to prove some worth against Hibbert one-on-one. Hibbert isn’t even that great of an offensive threat to begin with.

  42. AnonymousODG

er: Funny guys like you talked about how Tyson is so awesome yet when he’s stunk it up in the playoffs for 2 yrs, nothing

People too busy trying to salvage dead arguments that Melo has ruined the Knicks’ chances for playoff success to observe Hibbert’s B1tch stinking it up for basically the entire season and these playoffs.

  43. Juany8

How sad is it that out of the knicks big 3, Melo is the only guy who showed up (literally or metaphorically) to the playoffs? Give me the guy fighting to help his team score (let’s be positive and look at intent over execution here) over the guy watching Lance Stephenson waltz into the lane for rebounds.

  44. Juany8

Why is Chandler even playing anymore? He’s become a total liability on both ends.

  45. Juany8

How in the motherfucking hell is that not a foul. Forget fucking the refs wives, did Melo abuse one of their kids?

  46. JK47

Tyson looks like he’s in NBA Live or something and somebody has turned his “defensive awareness” to 0.

  47. maxwell_3g

why does carmelo keep taking stupid rushed threes???? its not a heat check if your not hot!!!! its a stupid shot

  48. ess-dog

The shooting just looks terrible. Melo isn’t setting his feet. Kidd cannot buy a bucket. Thank God for Indy turnovers…

  49. JK47

The Knicks are playing 3 on 5 on offense when Chandler and Kidd are both on the floor.

  50. Hubert Davis

Kidd-Chandler-Melo-JR should not play together the rest of this game. 2/4 are useless and 2/4 are shooting blanks.

Kidd should just not play anymore at all.

  51. d-mar

Well. if JR is going to rediscover his shot, now would be the time. There’s no other place to go for offense.

  52. bobneptune

    maxwell_3g:
why does carmelo keep taking stupid rushed threes????its not a heat check if your not hot!!!!its a stupid shot

You are what your record says you are…….

  53. bobneptune

Someone need to tell melo and jr leaping into Hibbert and getting the ball rammed down your throat is not the sufi way…. and there aren’t going to be any bail out calls.

  54. Will the Thrill

The Pacers look like the Spurs on offense compared to us lol minus the turnovers.

  55. JK47

See, the Knicks were not going to be able to maintain a 4-1 edge in turnovers throughout the game. At some point you have to make the other guys miss. The Pacers are a lousy offensive team and the Knicks are making them look like the Showtime Lakers.

The Pacers have a MFing .617 eFG% so far in this game. That is just inexcusable.

This Knicks team does not play defense, so they are not very good. Period, end of story.

  56. maxwell_3g

    Hubert Davis:
Fucking Woodson and his fucking lineups.

i dont know if i can blame woodson here. where should he go. he went to cope, and he didnt do much except try to tke charges under the hoop. maybe prigs??

  57. Juany8

Knicks can’t buy a jumper right now. This is pretty damn close to spiraling out of control, and the Knicks lineup that dominated 4th quarters all season consists of a corpse, a statue, 2 guys shooting about 30% the past couple of games, and Raymond Felton. Kenyon Martin and Shumpert need to start playing like all stars pretty much the rest of the series.

  58. Will the Thrill

Wow I wish West guarded Anthony with Pendegraph rim-protecting all game! HAHA what did he do jump backwards!?

  59. Juany8

Hey look Melo doesn’t suck when Hibbert isn’t allowed to camp in the paint whacking anyone who comes inside.

  60. maxwell_3g

there is no worse feeling than that moment when kenyon faces the hoop and decides, hes taking the shot

  61. DRed

honestly, how badly does this asshole have to play to get prigs or cope or novak or anyone into the game instead of him?

  62. airchibundo507

they’ve been attacking Melo’s pick and roll defense this quarter. Melo provides no resistance in preventing the ballhandler’s penetration and switches only create desirable match-ups for them. Melo’s gotta bring it more on D

  63. Will the Thrill

JR is so predictable with his drives and step backs. Can’t even make a fucking free throw.

  64. Juany8

My god JR and Kidd are just pathetic out there. And of course Shumpert goes to the bench lol

  65. maxwell_3g

chandler gets it tipped to him right at the hoop, and takes 12 seconds to dunk it…. has someone drugged him??

  66. JK47

Kidd has actually not been a complete zero in this game– he has made a couple of good crafty old man plays.

Worst Knicks today are Chandler and JR Smith.

  67. d-mar

    maxwell_3g:

  68. AnonymousODG

    DRed:
melo’s alive?! maybe next Tyson will get a rebound.

    Also, fucking bench JR

Hibbert’s B1tch has 2 rebounds through three quarters of play.

    JK47:

agreed. kidd has been bad, but he has brought fairly tenacious defense. JR looks like he is trying to draw fouls on himself and tyson is sleepwalking. cope was pretty bad too, but in limited minutes

  70. d-mar

Harlan being an idiot: “Melo and JR a combined 12-33 from the field.” Melo is 9-20, not really fair to lump him in with the completely shot JR Smith

  71. Hubert Davis

Why is benching JR not even an option?

The purpose here, Coach, is to put the most effective lineup out there. Not to get Melo & JR their shots.

  72. maxwell_3g

d-mar: I was thinking the same thing, he’s on Xanax or something

i think someone needs to drive him home

  73. Will the Thrill

Prigioni shoots better, and has made more plays that JR as of late. But there’s no way Woodson will bench his drunken adopted son.

  74. maxwell_3g

    ess-dog:
I can’t even lok at Hansbrough. He bugs the shit out of me.

i dont know. he knows his role and plays hard. i kind of like him

  75. maxwell_3g

kidd’s passes have been off lately. he set up melo to get hit like he was mark sanchez throwing a pass over the middle

  76. maxwell_3g

thank you!!!!! now keep the pressure on and dont allow them to even breath any life back into this game!!! if we can keep a lead, this may be a good opportunity to get JR right

  77. ShumpStuff

Woodson has to start going with the hot hand. Prigioni and Shump should be playing way more than kidd and jr at this point

  78. Hubert Davis

Give me one good reason why JR Smith plays 35 minutes a game and Pablo Prigioni doesn’t?

  79. AnonymousODG

    *facepalm*

Thank you very much, Hibbert’s B1tch for sucking out the momentum.

  80. DRed

jr has taken 12 more shots than pablo and outscored him by 1 fucking point.

hopefully Melo can bring this with him to Indy.

Thanks for playing, Tyson. go get some rest.

  81. maxwell_3g

game over. get melo out before something bad happens. kidd or cope, prigs, shump, jr, k-mart

  82. maxwell_3g

    ShumpStuff: Don’t have one…

letd be honest, we are wed to JR for better or worse. we need JR’s firepower. its great to get this game with him playing like a fool, but to do anything of real consequnece, we need him to snap out of it. cant just bench him though, despite how much he deserves it. i think prigs should be getting some of kidds minutes though (and a few of JR’s)

  83. AnonymousODG

    maxwell_3g:
game over.get melo out before something bad happens.kidd or cope, prigs, shump, jr, k-mart

  84. Hubert Davis

    AnonymousODG:
    *facepalm*

Thank you very much, Hibbert’s B1tch for sucking out the momentum.

Enough with this shit. The 2nd most valuable player of our season is playing with a herniated disc in his neck. He’s probably not even 65%. He’s so obviously not healthy and you’re on here calling him someone’s bitch? Get the fuck out of here.

And Roy Hibbert has 6 points, by the way.

  85. BigBlueAL

Last time Knicks made a run like this in a playoff game was in 1999 Game 3 vs the Heat, a 32-2 run.

  86. Count de Pennies

Knicks on their way to a convincing win…

    Exit dogrufus, stage left.

    Enter ruru, stage right.

Don’t need JR if we have a good 2nd half Melo. Indeed, even a bad JR can’t drag down a good 2nd half Melo.

Felton with another quiet, yet vitally important, playoff game under his belt.

  88. Will the Thrill

Worst thing we can do here is get cocky and say or do something stupid to fuel the Pacers like what happened with JR against Boston.

  89. Business Socks

Pacers finally hit their first FG in the 4th quarter at the the 3:05 mark. Wow.

  90. mcliff05

I’d rather have Kidd in the game than prigs at this point. Pablo is to important to take a chance… Can’t believe I just said that

  91. Hubert Davis

It’s kind of insulting to Pablo to leave him in with the bench warmers.

What does that guy have to do to get more action? Other than be part of our most effective lineups?

  92. d-mar

So just like we shouldn’t have overreacted to game 1, we can’t overreact to this one either. This is going 7 games, I think it’s inevitable.

  93. Juany8

So do you think anyone will point out on TNT that the Knicks held the Pacers to literally zero field goals in the competitive minutes of the fourth? I don’t think I’ve ever seen a team blow open a game so quickly. It’s like the reverse of what happened in game 6 against the Celtics.

  94. ShumpStuff

It’s amazing that the next game is on Saturday. All that rest is gonna be great for the Knicks

  95. AnonymousODG

Prigs has to be out there to run our close-out offense. And he’s pretty durable. Kidd played good defense (although had some really dumb turnovers). And he’s less durable.

I fart in the general direction of dogrufus and Charles Barkley

I dunno, maybe dogrufus is good luck. there seems to be a method to his madness. his stubborn pessimism invigorates the Knicks. and… he’s quite efficient. his foot is firmly placed in his mouth when the Knicks are successful.

  97. Douglas

Q-Rich coming in the game and draining threes is an incredible victory cigar.

I agree, Pablo has earned the right to play in crunch time.

  99. maxwell_3g

not exactly a ringing endorsement for amare’s return from reggie. this may be the first thing me and reggie have ever agreed on

  100. mcliff05

Hes still 35 and tweaked his ankle a couple of weeks ago. Just saying that if I had to pick one to get hurt it’d be the guy who hasn’t gotten a bucket since April

  101. Juany8

Carmelo had himself a nice little superstar game today, wasn’t super efficient on his shooting but had zero turnovers, which is amazing at that many shots, and Indiana is still a great defense. He has 21 rebounds for the series so far, and 3 assists and 2 steals rounds out the box score nicely. Feels like just this morning someone was predicting a 20 point blowout and subsequent sweep for Indiana, mostly because there was no way the Knicks were going to outdo their 95 points in game 1 ;)

  102. Frank

Zero turnovers in the 2nd half. That was basically a perfect half. Amazing dominating win.

  103. DRed

Before dogrurufus says it, I’d like to point out that never, not once in the entire history of the universe, have the knicks won a game in Indiana in 2013. We’re doomed.

  104. bidiong

Sadly, we could beat them by this much every game if we put together a high intensity game of basketball 48 minutes every game. I just am not sure we can come close to that.

  105. flossy

    Frank:
Zero turnovers in the 2nd half. That was basically a perfect half. Amazing dominating win.

And that was with JR still playing like crap. If he can wake the fuck up (or Amar’e comes back and is a factor) you gotta feel pretty good about our chances.

Damn, not only was this statement hilarious, but the unintentional dogrurufus made me notice that ruruland has been conspicuously absent today… as someone else mentioned, they might be one and the same after all!!! Or maybe I need to lay off the beer lol

  107. Juany8

dogrufus: I revise my prediction to INdy in 6

Damn that’s 3 changes in your prediction since this morning. How many more games do you need before you declare that you’re absolutely positive the Knicks lost to the Heat last year?

  108. DRed

knicks are allowing 75 points per 100 poss with Pablo and Shump on the floor together in the playoffs. stop playing JR

  109. Juany8

I love how none of these guys on TNT are pointing out that the Knicks blanked the Pacers when they were still in the game at the beginning of the 4th quarter. Or that the Knicks are outscoring the Pacers by nearly 30 points when Carmelo is on the floor, and that Indiana only made their big run when Melo got in foul trouble.

  110. Douglas

Thank god the tip-off for OKC/MEM is late. The TNT crew recapped the game and I got to see Charles eat some crow. He seemed almost shell-shocked.

  111. Douglas

also LOL @ Chuck for trying to argue that the Knicks won because they hit nine 4th quarter threes. Q-Rich hit as many threes as Melo did.

  112. Juany8

Being optimistic, the long layoff has to help Tyson Chandler more than anyone no? He’s certainly not this bad, something has to be off with him, he looked like a zombie in the second half. Pain killers can do that to you…

  113. DRed

there was nothing unintentional about that dogrurufus. they’re the two faces of the knickerblogger Janus

This game shows why you don’t make ridiculously strong predictions so early on. Even if you turn out to be right everyone thinks youre a douche, and if you turn out to be wrong you turn into a gigantic joke. Not that hard to only say you’re only sure of things you’re actually sure of. I think the Knicks win, but I could very easily see the Pacers taking the series, they’re a solid team and the Knicks have several role players totally bombing out right now.

  115. Z-man

The most likely situation is that it’s 2-2 after 4 games, then it becomes a slugfest. I like our chances.

  116. er

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say we will win 95% of the games where Melo goes 50/40/100 on 20 or more shots

Totally agree. We’ve seen nothing in the first 2 games to indicate that one team has a definitive advantage over the other. The one thing we do have that they don’t is Carmelo Anthony, and if he can build on tonight’s performance, then I like our chances.

  118. johnlocke

Prigs or Raymond should be in the game at ALL times and under NO circumstances should Jason (no J) Kidd be the only PG on the floor. I thought we had already learned that in Boston. Anyway, AWESOME win. Prigs, Shump and Martin for MVP. Melo was Melo finally. JR still drunk or something…

    Hubert Davis:
Kidd-Chandler-Melo-JR should not play together the rest of this game.2/4 are useless and 2/4 are shooting blanks.

Kidd should just not play anymore at all.

  119. AnonymousODG

    Juany8:
Being optimistic, the long layoff has to help Tyson Chandler more than anyone no? He’s certainly not this bad, something has to be off with him, he looked like a zombie in the second half. Pain killers can do that to you…

It’ll help Felton most. Seems he came up a bit gamey with his foot at the end there.

  120. NYKNJ

Okc is a completely different team without Westbrook. It’s going to take some amazing performances from Durant to take out Memphis.

  121. DRed

K Mart was much more lively than the languid Chandler, but you need to get 2 rebounds to be one of my MVPs.

  122. bocker84

er: Damn bro, that had some feeling behind it

Yes… yes it did. I love the trolling, but it really got me jacked up for tonight’s game and made the victory that much sweeter. Now if he was only for real :)

AnonymousODG: It’ll help Felton most.Seems he came up a bit gamey with his foot at the end there.

Don’t forget Melo and his shoulder. JR and whatever the hell has been up with him the last few games. And Amare trying to get back in game shape. Limited minutes for Amare off the bench will help especially if JR’s scoring woes continue. He can’t be any worse than Copeland on defense, either.

  124. Juany8

So let’s all be thankful that we have Kidd and not Fisher on this team. Starting to think Grenwald is a top 3 gm in the league, and better than Presti (I’d have RC Buford and Morey as one and two…. and yes I am a homer)

  125. Juany8

I love that it’s totally ok for Durant to just dribble up to the 3 point line and take a 3 like it’s nothing just cause he is always shooting over his defender. At the end of the day, no amount of hard work beats genetics lol.

So far the early returns on the “KD’s game will be hurt without Westbrook” theory are not good

Fisher made some shots and that poke of the ball on Conley got them the lead with Durant’s jumper

  130. Hubert Davis

maxwell_3g: letd be honest, we are wed to JR for better or worse.we need JR’s firepower.its great to get this game with him playing like a fool, but to do anything of real consequnece, we need him to snap out of it.cant just bench him though, despite how much he deserves it.i think prigs should be getting some of kidds minutes though (and a few of JR’s)

I don’t agree with this at all.

JR is our 6th man. Somewhere along the line he started getting treated like the 2nd. This isn’t Melo & JR like it’s LeBron & Wade.

Shumpert & Prigioni are playing better. He’s been dog shit. No reason you can’t cut his minutes from 32 to 24 when he can’t hit a shot to save his life.

  131. bocker84

Honestly speaking, it is wonderful to see a game where the team holds onto Melo and supports him throughout the first three quarters. The biggest difference you notice between what had happened to him in Denver vs what is happening here is how the team is able to support him when he isn’t finding the basket (for whatever reason that may be).

This is what makes the Knicks so insanely dangerous in my mind… when Melo can’t put on the cape and dodge bullets flying around the world at mach 6, he needs to learn to keep taking a back seat to his role players Playoff Felton (who in my opinion is the best PG in the playoffs at this moment), Shump, and a trigger willing Prigs until his own shot develops.

If Melo’s shot doesn’t develop… then he should keep being that superstar distraction that draws defenders and kicks it out. Be more than just a scorer who puts up 30… simply become the sheer idea of a scorer who COULD put up 30. Be the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now. They may take our lives, BUT THEY WILL NEVER TAKE OUR FREEDOM! TODAY, WE CELEBRATE OUR INDEPEN… whoa… need to lay off the post-game cocaine.

Just noticed something fun – the play that started the 30-2 run was Melo’s +1 at the end of the 3rd with two minutes to go. The guy is the heart and soul of the team.

Can’t speak for others, but the point I tried to make was that although Durant’s numbers would not be changed much either way, his teammates would suffer. Keep in mind, Thunder were serious favorites to win the entire West, and so far this series Memphis has shown the Thunder can’t even be sure to make the WCF anymore.

They had the highest point differential in the league the same season the Heat won 67 games. While I think the Heat were the better team regardless, if the Thunder lose this round I’d say that’s even more disappointing than the Knicks losing to the Pacers, but only if you assume Westbrook isn’t actually worth much to the Thunder like I’ve heard a surprising amount of people say.

It’s amazing how little love Felton gets here. I guess some of it is to be expected on a historically stat-head oriented site. But he set the tone for the game early and that should not be lost in Shump’s dunk, Prig’s 3, or Melo’s 2nd half. Felton has been our steadiest player so far, hands down. Considering how he was crucified here in the Lin aftermath, I am hoping some of the doubters have the balls to eat some crow.

  143. Z-man

And as to the Kidd hate, mark my words, he will be heard from again.

I think these 3 days off will be HUGE for our guys, especially Melo, Chandler and Kidd. I think we win game 3, then get complacent and lose game 4.

Lol definite foot in mouth moment. Still have vivid memories of Derrick Fisher taking foot on the line 3′s in the Finals why doing nothing on the other end. I also remember Mike Bibby stepping the fuck up as our very last point guard against the Heat last year and almost helping the Knicks force a game 6 at New York.

  145. ognyc

Linsanity was fun…but I always loved Felton…he’s holding it down…no advanced stats, just a fan who’s been watching since the glory days of X, Mason, Starks and Ewing…I have a good feeling about how its up to the Knicks if they win or lose…the opponents are props…

I’m gonna be totally odd ball here and say that the Knicks win the next 2… followed by losing game 5 and 6 for a ridiculously stressful game 7. I think the Knicks, like the Heat, Cetlics, and former Lakers teams, play pretty much the same on the road as at home in the playoffs. Indiana will play better of course, but it’s a really good sign that they only had a big run this series when Melo was sitting on the bench.

I still don’t get how people are more nervous about Amare getting 7-10 minutes over having to go to a Copeland/Novak (“please don’t let them get a 10-0 run while they’re in there”) duo for 7-10 minutes.

  149. BigBlueAL

The thing about Amar’e is when do they play him and with who?? Does he play with KMart/Chandler or at Center next to Melo which usually leads to brutal defense.

I would think he would be best suited playing next to KMart at the start of the 2nd quarter when Melo is resting.

As bad as Kidd was offensively, I thought he was outstanding on the defensive end. He may not have ended up with a lot of steals, but he did a great job doubling and harassing and playing the passing lanes.

He plays the 4 spot with KMart, JR and the second unit when Chandler/Melo are out resting during the 2nd and 3rd quarters. We never had the benefit of KMart when STAT was playing. Now we do.

Literally, there is no re-jiggering of the lineup here to do. STAT just takes Copeland’s spot in the rotation and maybe a few more minutes to help rest up Melo, who’s averaging 40.5 mpg (even with this blowout).

  152. johnlocke

I’m not worried about Stat per se, we need him. What I’m worried about is him working his rust off in a pivotal playoff game. Stat was great after getting 5+ games under his belt, he was pretty awful in those first few games.

I have to admit, he’s been a perfect fit, not only for this team, but for the playoffs.
He’s definitely not a star, but he’s steady, consistent, and not really “bad” at any one thing. He’s also a veteran presence at this point in his career.
We’ve also strangely avoided star point guards in this year’s playoffs: Rose, Rondo, and now Westbrook, all being injured makes bringing in a cheap vet pg look like a brilliant decision.
Plus, we got Prigs on the cheap to back him up.

Still better than the dynamic duo of Copeland/JR when Melo sits. Not sure how anybody could argue that.

I would actually not mind having stat play WITH the dynamic duo of cope and jr.

Like stated, if Stat has his legs under him and can elevate a decent amount i think he’ll get his rhythm rather quickly, more so than on his 1st time back from his knee issue.

  156. JK47

I’ve been a pretty big critic of Ray Ray in the past, but he played great ball over the second half of the regular season and has carried that into the playoffs.

Since he came back from his mangled finger injury on January 26, he put up a very solid .553 TS%, shooting 3′s at a .366 clip. After tonight’s game he’s at a .534 TS% in the playoffs, shooting .360 from 3– not bad considering we’ve played two tough defensive opponents.

I was really skeptical of things working out with Felton when he came back here, but he has been a major bargain at his salary.

Another entertaining game in OKC. I wonder who’ll take it.

I can’t believe Fisher is still taking crunch time jumpers for a playoff team. It’s 2013! This shouldn’t be happening!

  159. Brian Cronin Post author

Anyone who has a problem with replay must have hated the last play in OKC. They took, like, ten minutes just to decide how much time was on the shot clock.

  160. Brian Cronin Post author

Wait, what’s the rule for possession of a ball? Marc Gasol just fell on the ball but the ball was between his legs. That counts as possessing the ball?

I read an interesting article around the time of his signing where it suggested that you really should just lock in your young point guards period (even if they don’t seem like stars yet), as they rarely turn out to be bad deals by the end of the deal. Like, even if they’re overpays, they’re not terrible overpays, since point guards are always in demand. It is the other positions you should be more judicious about locking up. It certainly has proven to be true about Conley. It looked like a lot of money at the time and now looks cheap. I believe that was the theory behind Jrue Holliday’s extension (and it also worked out).

Ruru, where you at? True Knicks fans never leave. It’s within our right to criticize the chosen one. Come back to the fold if you believe.

  168. Nick C.

I had to watch on DVR about an hour or so behind. How about that second half defense? I know, I know, Boston’s offense sucked yada yada but now against Indy too. These are some serious clampdowns.

Maybe its just selective memory, but it seems like Prigioni is always in the midst of these pullaways when they happen. Optomistically I think the tide has shifted. Pessimistically, they failed to hold serve. At any rate I feel a lot better about their chances than I did 12 hours ago. :-)
