i know i feel like we have a chance to do something this year because im nervous. wasnt even nervous past 2 years. havent felt this way since the 90’s

  2. Knicks4Eva

Wow, that was not a charge on JR.
But, the officials are keeping a tight reign.
    Not totally screwing us yet.

  3. llcoolbp

Breen is really annoying today. Worse then usual. You could hear the glee in his voice when pierce got that 3 point play. Thank god for jvg.

  4. AnonymousODG

    cgreene:
How does JR get beat off the dribble by Pierce?

I don’t like how Pierce is having his way with JR. It pretty much offsets Melo having his way with Bradley… and then some.

  5. MarvsTeeth

JR getting screwed on a couple of calls…but holy crap he is bringing it on the offensive end tonight. That dunk was Westbrook-esque.

  6. maxwell_3g

damn it all. that is not the way i wanted to end the qusrter. i dont really understand the end of quarter iso with a 6.5 second difference in shot and game clocks

  7. er

    d-mar:
Feels like we should be up 10, celtics have to be happy with this start

This is awful….Knicks getting killed by green n pierce

  8. dogrufus

Don’t think we have much of a chance in this game or the series. We haven’t been able to generate any good shots. Melo has been hitting insanely hard shots he’d normally miss. We should be down by 10.

It makes me sad to see all the flaws I’ve been pointing out in this team will sink us. We get shut down by physical defenses. We just can’t score against the Bulls, Pacers, or healthy Celtics.

Get ready to see a lot of long twos from JR, Felton, and Melo.

The play worked Melo just missed his last two at the rim

    AnonymousODG:
Really missing Prigs. Our ball movement isn’t exactly shining.

Way too much iso-ball for JR & Melo. Strange way to start. Is it really just Prigs’ absence?

  11. dogrufus

    cgreene:
Melo has yet to drive against a team w no interior defense.

Melo is actually terrible at finishing at the basket, as you saw before. There’s a reason he gets so many putbacks off his own miss.

  12. johnlocke

We can’t have Pierce playing like he’s Jordan, and green like Pippen. Defense needs to step up.

  13. lavor postell

Really enjoying the Knicks’ perimeter defense. Honestly we just got abused without Garnett on the floor for a good portion of the Celtics’ run. Absolutely atrocious.

    Stfu

  15. dogrufus

If Green ends up outplaying Melo this series, as he has thus far this game, will we find ruru dead in his apartment?

  16. maxwell_3g

i think someone needs to get kidd an oxygen mask. that was more driving in the past 2 minutes than he has done all year

  17. d-mar

    dogrufus:
If Green ends up outplaying Melo this series, as he has thus far this game, will we find ruru dead in his apartment?

Mike K can we block this a-hole please?

  18. AnonymousODG

Celtics protecting the paint, giving up the longball. Fine by me when we have no post-up players out there, LOL.

  19. johnlocke

Our bench > Boston’s bench. I was a little concerned about the no JR, no Melo lineup…let’s not do that too much.

  20. lavor postell

Shumpert might be the stupidest defender off the ball on the team. Why is he leaving the corner 3 open on two straight possessions to double a guard simply cutting to the hoop? Unless Woodson’s idea of rim protection is Shumpert jumping flailing around by the rim.

  21. bidiong

I’ve been reading this board forever but finally decided to make an account for the playoff run.

These refs have been ridiculous so far and the team needs to drive to the lane more. The ball movement is so much better off penetration.

  22. dogrufus

d-mar: Mike K can we block this a-hole please?

I sure hope they don’t block people for saying ruru REALLY loves melo….

  23. AnonymousODG

Felton is playing well. JR’s defense is bad. Melo is getting too complacent and needs to draw some fouls.

  24. Juany8

    maxwell_3g:
ray ray came to play today.i have to assume that green will cool off

He’s making some ridiculous shots right now, I don’t think he’s capable of keepi this up a whole series

  25. maxwell_3g

seriously, CANT give up easy layups. this is the playoffs. points a at premium. something eeds to be fixed because givin up layup after layup to a cutting bradley aint gonna get it done

  26. Juany8

Chandler isn’t moving particularly well right now, really worried about his health moving forward. He needs to go back to being DPOY dominant center Tyson chandler soon or the Knicks are going to struggle just getting out of this round

  27. AnonymousODG

    llcoolbp:
Chandler is still rusty. Lets hope Tyson smash comes out in the second half.

Unless he gets 3 tremendous blocks, he will not have made up for the 3 blatant backdoor passes that led to layups these past 3 minutes. Bring in KMart.

  28. lavor postell

God listening to Breen and Van Gundy talk about how great the officiating has been is ridiculous especially given JVG has already disagreed with 4 calls in this game.

  29. AnonymousODG

Can’t believe Chandler let that alley-oop pass go unimpeded. Lucky that the Celtics weren’t on Bradley’s wavelength there.

Chandler only shows up for the 4th quarter. Get him th f out of there and bring in KMart.

  30. er

    lavor postell:

I threw up in my mouth on that Felton late call

  31. johnlocke

Kmart doing pretty much everything better than Chandler. Someone just needs to tell him that under no circumstances should he be taking a jump shot – it’s basically a turnover.

    d-mar:
Is Chandler playing today? Haven’t seen him

He’s in there, its debatable as to whether or not he’s playing.

  33. lavor postell

Our transition defense is a joke right now. Chandler might as well be in a wheelchair.

  34. maxwell_3g

melo aint getting it done right now. he should not be shooting long fadeaways with bass covering him

  35. DRed

EB: He’s in there, its debatable as to whether or not he’s playing.

Has anyone thrown Tyson a pass when he’s been open? Tyson isn’t the one turning his back on the perimeter.

  36. cgreene

Knicks playing w terrible intensity and no fluidity. Melo not moving the ball. Bad bad bad

  37. mr.JayP

Woodson NEEEEEEDS to adjust his offense. They are denying melo the ball and when he gets it there’s 11sec left on the clock. thats unacceptable.

  38. dogrufus

Dammit, it was awesome when I was completely wrong about the way we would finish the season.

It really sucks that I’m right about this game and likely the series.

  39. er

If I were in the knick locker room I would get in Melos face and yell “go to the fucking hole”

  40. maxwell_3g

woodson should just let kidd and melo go into a room and talk during halftime. the vet needs to calm his ars down

  41. mr.JayP

    er:
If I were in the knick locker room I would get in Melos face and yell “go to the fucking hole”

To take a contested shot? This is EXACTLY the game Doc wants melo to play…he needs to pass out of the double team and make a decision in 4 sec or less.

  42. er

And also Melo needs to shoot more threes instead of long twos…..and the team needs to move without the ball. On d they need to revamp the whole thing

  43. Hubert Davis

    mr.JayP:
Woodson NEEEEEEDS to adjust his offense. They are denying melo the ball and when he gets it there’s 11sec left on the clock. thats unacceptable.

He won’t. Remember game 1 vs the Heat last year? They fronted Melo, and we didn’t adjust until we got back to NY.

It’s up to the players to figure out. Woodson is useless in the playoffs.

  44. bidiong

Well, the Knicks played like shit, and the Celtics played as well as they could have hoped and we’re down by four. I hope the second half goes a little differently.

  45. johnlocke

Agreed. He’s holding the ball too long. He also needs to vary it up a little bit. Get the ball of cuts. Get shots through screens as opposed to isolation. Get Bass running through some picks and get mismatches just like the Celtics are doing for Pierce. That part’s on Woody.

mr.JayP: To take a contested shot? This is EXACTLY the game Doc wants melo to play…he needs to pass out of the double team and make a decision in 4 sec or less.

We shot 6-10 from three. We can expect to play mostly worse, not better.

This is what the rest of the series is going to look like. Our offense falls apart against physical, playoff intensity defenses.

  52. DRed

6-15 with 0 assists is not acceptable. We need to find ways to get Carmelo shots besides iso plays

  53. Nick C.

Damn that was not what I was expecting. The offense looks so stagnant. The defense is worse. Maybe it’s like early days when they would turn it up in the fourth and roll.

  54. maxwell_3g

does magic do any homework. he think cope is a “non-scorer” but Kidd is a “scorer”?

Considering the Knicks played like a pile of hot garbage in that half, a four-point deficit ain’t so bad.

I think you’ve got your answer. Celts hit some very tough shots that half. If we can get the ball moving on offense I think we’ll be fine

  59. dogrufus

CaptainB: i know I shouldnt respond but stfu you little punk

If you disagree with me that’s fine, but why can’t you be civil? I’m a fan too. I want the team to succeed too. I’ve just been so scarred by long years of disappointment that I expect all the team’s endeavors to end in ignominious failure. That doesn’t mean I want this to happen any more than you do.

My most desired outcome is that I’m proven to be hilariously wrong, we win the championship, and everyone laughs at stupid dog.

Unfortunately we’re going to go down in the first round as a second seed to the fucking Celtics. You be upbeat about it if you want.

  60. maxwell_3g

someone mentioned that shump is horrible about leaving his man for no reason. this was apparent that half. shump (and others) can not continue to double players and allow the celts to swing the ball around the perimeter for the open corner three. if kg is going to beat us with turnaround 15 footers, so be it. if bass can torch us in the post, so be it. but no more stupid off the ball helping. please!!!

  61. johnlocke

    Adjustments:
+ more JR (only played 10 minutes in the first half)
+ no more Kidd on Pierce, put Shump on him fight through screens and don’t double Pierce
+Get up into Green, help off the dribble and force him to take contested mid-range jumpers or to make passes
+ Have Melo attack the paint….less mid range jumpers, attack and get fouled and look to be a playmaker

  62. dogrufus

DRed: I think you’ve got your answer. Celts hit some very tough shots that half. If we can get the ball moving on offense I think we’ll be fine

Melo also hit some ridiculously tough shots, Ray hit a tough long two while being fouled, and we shot 6-10 from three. If one team got the better end of variance in that half, it was unfortunately probably us.

  63. Hubert Davis

Let’s just keep doing our thing, but be a little smarter. See y’all after the win.

  64. lavor postell

Does Shumpert know how to catch a basketball? Holy shit he’s fumbled like four balls out of bounds in this game.

  65. mr.JayP

Shumpert playing anxious, cannot fault him for that. But woody n kidd need to settle him down.

  66. AnonymousODG

You do want this to happen. It’s fairly obvious. Trying to justify your negative attitude because you’re a wounded fan is hilarity. You’re the only Knicks fan that has stuck with them through all the horrible years they’ve had? For realz? Drop the act.

If you wanna hate, just hate. There’s plenty to criticize and justifiably so (looking at you, Chandler). So stop half-stepping with flimsy excuses because it just reveals a shocking insecurity. Which is being picked up upon by more than a few posters. Hence the hostility.

  67. johnlocke

    This. It’s just weird.

    lavor postell:

  68. lavor postell

If we defend like this for the rest of the series there is no doubt as to the outcome. Our offense is hurting without Prigioni because it moves Felton to an on the ball position without anybody nearly as capable at him penetrating playing off the ball. That constant threat of penetration and multiple pick and rolls is what gets Carmelo positive isolation looks and our three point game.

  69. johnlocke

Expected 1st game jitters for Cope. He’s just not looked confident out there. Hopefully we get a better Cope throughout the series / playoffs. Shump has also looked unsteady. JR in full EFF You mode however

  70. The Infamous Cdiggy

    d-mar:
Man shump has no clue how to take it to the basket

no. 1 thing he needs to work on this offseason. That and off-ball D

  71. lavor postell

I am really getting pissed of with Chandler’s dispirited performance. Not rolling to the rim and then just conceding ground to Green. Wake he fuck up pal.

  72. maxwell_3g

    cgreene:
    Chandler is death

this is just strange. how can chandler be so inviible?? this is the type of series he lives for. he must not be right. maybe he just needs to get his legs under him

  73. maxwell_3g

when melo dribbles between his legs, its death to the possession. his handle betwen the legs is slow and sloppy. just needs to gun away or duck the head and go to the hole

  74. d-mar

Pierce’s shot looks broken, I like our chances if their offense comes down to green making contested shots

  75. lavor postell

Look I get that Melo gets a shitty whistle and he has some legitimate gripes but his attitude today is just childish. Ok complain the first couple of times you don’t get a call, but then adjust. Don’t do the same shit over and over and act shocked when the results are the same. Also we need way better floor spacing.

  76. johnlocke

JR or someone else needs to be more aggressive. They’re just passing it to Melo with hte shot clock running down and standing around.

    yellowboy90:
Melo needs to stop pressing and pass. Draw and kick or just move the ball.

I think I have better insight into what I want than you do. Shocking insecurity as to this team is utterly justified. We’re on the verge of collapsing at home to the 7th seed. Stop telling me how I feel or should feel about it.

I’m pessimistic. I don’t think out team is really very good. I don’t think we’ll win this game or series. I dont’ want any of this to be so. Deal with it.

  78. lavor postell

Breen is really ridiculous. It’s honestly like he gets payed to act personally aggrieved any time the Knicks get the benefit of a whistle.

  79. AnonymousODG

Pierce, Green and Bradley are playing about as well as they could have hoped. In the meantime, Melo is shooting poorly, JR is playing awful defense and is shooting poorly now, and Felton is playing so-so.

    We’re only down 3.

Frankly, I like our chances this series, if not this game.

  80. er

Melo n jr missing easy shots isn’t good….breen slurping pierce is making me wanna vomit lmao

  81. johnlocke

Melo really needs to either attack, get in the post or pass and move the ball quickly. We can’t rely on Melo to win this game for us. The team has to win. I hope they and Melo realize this. #NO HEROBALL PLEASE

  82. maxwell_3g

that was the ugliest offense to ever lead to a layup. if JR wants to show he the best sub in the league, he needs to be able to take control with melo on the bench

You do have better insight. Which is probably why my comment was so cutting. And nothing in this response actually detracts from my comment. Not surprising.

  84. er

Lol breen….complains about the delay on the Melo foul but says nothing when pierce falls on his on own and gets the call….why does he always have to get our national games too?

  85. johnlocke

Raymond Felton really needs to be more aggressive, I’m not sure the Celtics have an answer for his penetration.

  86. d-mar

    johnlocke:
Raymond Felton really needs to be more aggressive, I’m not sure the Celtics have an answer for his penetration.

I actually think Felton has played great overall

  87. Juany8

Guys at the end of the day you’re going to occasionally miss open jumpers, the important thing is to keep getting those types of shots which will eventually go in. Overall I think this team’s done decent considering that Tyson chandler has basically been invisible and prigs is missing.

  88. johnlocke

I agree. I’ve loved the little duck. I want him to be even more aggressive. If it’s a 3 headed offensive monster out there (with Chandler adding nothing)….we need Felton to step up alongside Carmelo and JR

d-mar: I actually think Felton has played great overall

  89. AnonymousODG

The only thing that makes me sad is that Woodson will bring in Chandler (0 pts, 5 rebs, 0 blks) at some point to finish the game instead of sticking with KMart (8 pts, 8 rebs, 2 blks) who has been great.

    My facepalm is reading itself.

  90. johnlocke

Our defense this half has in fact been pretty damn good. We need to initiate the offense faster though. Tired legs??

Could Woodson have even realized how well KMart is playing??? *knocks on wood* We can’t hit an open shot if our life depended on it, but damn is our defense grooving.

  92. bidiong

I’m glad Chandler is still on the bench. Maybe he’ll wake up or maybe he’s still injured and shouldn’t be playing.

  93. johnlocke

Man, Celts down 3, Paul Pierce licking his chops, twinkle in his eye, Pierce about to take that 3, then JR fresh from bitching about a call comes back and swipes victory from the jaws of defeat… if one sequence sums up JR ….that was just it.

  94. ruruland

AnonymousODG: Could Woodson have even realized how well KMart is playing???*knocks on wood* We can’t hit an open shot if our life depended on it, but damn is our defense grooving.

Martin much more effective on both ends of court. That’s it. Chandler will eventually get going, you have to figure.

Regardless, this team will not be denied.

  95. maxwell_3g

if they score, we need to stay agressive on offense. that means getting into the offense quickly. i dont care who shoots, just make it a good shot (meaning, no need to force it to melo)

  96. Juany8

Kenyon Martin was a fucking great pickup. Out lineup is pretty much all castoffs and Carmelo and it works!

  97. ruruland

the turnover orebound/advantage over this Celtics team is biggest edge.

they are still a great defensive team. We’ll see if they can sustain that for an entire series.

  98. johnlocke

If we didn’t have Martin… we would have been fucked today

ruruland: Martin much more effective on both ends of court. That’s it. Chandler will eventually get going, you have to figure.

  99. maxwell_3g

well. we did everything wrong on that offensive possession, except for the c’s left a man open right under the hoop. i’ll take it

KMart has a huge heart, extremely intelligent, and really underrated ability to do a least of things well.

will not look great statistically but he’s a pure winner.

    Melo….first assist…best assist! Lebronesque

please stop. no comparisons to lebron. a) they are not apt. b) we all (should) hate lebron

Martin and Birdman have been the two biggest pick ups during the season in the eastern conference…

  103. AnonymousODG

8 pts in the 4th quarter. Unbelievable. Is that an NBA record low for the playoffs????

  104. The Infamous Cdiggy

    Offense was… at best… scrappy.

But 25 pts allowed in the half? Manly effort.

  105. ruruland

    AnonymousODG:
8 pts in the 4th quarter.Unbelievable.Is that an NBA record low for the playoffs????

Think the 4th quarter defense was top 5 going into the playoffs. I’ll check.

  106. johnlocke

That was sweet. We won that game with our DEFENSE..not three pointers. Kenyon was huge, Kidd was huge on D. Interestingly don’t think either Novak or Cope cracked double digit minutes. And I’m glad Woody stuck with Martin and didn’t feel obligated to put the All-Star Center back in the game. Great, great win!

  107. johnlocke

Jeff Green scored 6 pts in the 2nd half, Jason Terry scored 0. I mean if we score 90+, I think it’s going to be tough for the Celts to keep up on the offensive end. Their defense however was very good at times this game…ours was outrageous in the 2nd half. I wonder if you look at our quarter splits, I’d bet we’re a top 10 defense in 2nd half and fourth quarter defense…it’s seemed to be a theme all season.

  108. er

Huge game from Kidd and Kmart, I thought Felton was decent as well. If Melo and Earl made their open jumpers this woulda been an easier victory. Also Jeff Green showed the difference btwn a star and just a good player

  109. BigBlueAL

Got home in time to watch the entire 4th quarter. Fitting JVG was calling the game cause this was a win straight out of the JVG era.

Boston just doesnt have enough offense and specifically ball-handling to win this series. Was very frustrated/perplexed with the Knicks offense in the 4th but thankfully we got Melo and Boston doesnt. Ugly win but will gladly take it, still feeling good about the Knicks winning this series in 5.

if they score, we need to stay agressive on offense.that means getting into the offense quickly.i dont care who shoots, just make it a good shot (meaning, no need to force it to melo)

Easier said than done, Max. This is the playoffs, and so ball entry and man defense are allowed to be very tight.

When you have Bradley, KG, Green and good team defenders around them, in a playoff situation, it’s next to impossible to create good offense consistently.

Again today we see the value Amar’e provides in terms of establishing an inside out presence.

Remember, in 7 games last year the Heat scored 100 points or more in regulation just once.

    The Heat.

    And that was without Green.

The Celtics allowed 100 or more points in 1 of 20 playoff games last year.

Got home in time to watch the entire 4th quarter.Fitting JVG was calling the game cause this was a win straight out of the JVG era.

Boston just doesnt have enough offense and specifically ball-handling to win this series. Was very frustrated/perplexed with the Knicks offense in the 4th but thankfully we got Melo and Boston doesnt.Ugly win but will gladly take it, still feeling good about the Knicks winning this series in 5.

Offense gets ugly in the playoffs, cliche as that is, at least when you have quality defensive teams.

That’s why guys who can make difficult/guarded shots have even more value in the postseason.

  112. johnlocke

    a) it was a great pass, b) I can compare two things two people do w/o saying they are the same, c) I’ll hate Lebron when he plays the Knicks.

maxwell_3g: please stop.no comparisons to lebron.a)they are not apt.b)we all (should) hate lebron

  113. BigBlueAL

Also Im sure it has been mentioned already today and certainly has been mentioned throughout the season but man gotta say again, AMAZING hands Kidd has on D. He probably got mostly arm on some of them too but he usually gets the benefit of the doubt from the refs which is fine with me lol.

  114. ruruland

Interested to see game 2 adjustments. I thought Knicks team defense was great and the doubles really started to work and the rotations got tight in the second half.

My thing with the offense was they literally would wait until under 10 secs were left on the shot clock to do anything and alot of the times they never got the ball in Melo’s hands. I was screaming to get him the ball early in the clock and let him go to work with some time left on the clock.

It was getting to the point where after a few horrible floater looking shots and heaves from 3 late in the clock (none of them from Melo) I was screaming next time Melo shoots and I dont care if he has all 5 guys on him lol.

  117. JK47

Dogrufus apparently has his tail between his legs right now, pun intended.

Thank God for Kenyon Martin. What a huge difference maker. He really brings some bad ass toughness to the table that this team sorely needs.

This was a great opportunity for the Celtics to steal a game and they couldn’t do it.

  118. DRed

We won that game because we got 15 steals. Going forward, we need either Melo or JR to actually hit some shots. And thank God for K Mart. I don’t know if Tyson was rusty or still hurt, but we would have been totally boned without a plan B bigman. What’s the word on Priggy Smalls?

They need to have Melo be the primary roll player and then have him stagger screen the weakside so that he’ll have a clear side.

The one flex screen is not opening up enough space.

Knicks need to him a couple backdoors to loosen up Boston’s fronting, and you can’t do that with just one or two actions because Boston’s defense is so disciplined on the weakside.

    It’s just one more step.

  120. Hubert Davis

Credit to Mike Woodson. I rage against him frequently, mostly because I’m a control freak, but he kept an even keel and trusted that our superiority would bear out in time, and it did.

Smart to go with Martin. Obvious, but it still bore a little risk to play Martin over Chandler.

I’ve backed off the ledge. Until Tuesday.

    Go Knicks!

  121. jon abbey

Martin and Kidd were amazing, Martin has singlehandedly saved this team (along with JR’s transformation).

and yeah, get into the offense a bit quicker, it’s like they didn’t even realize there was a 24 second clock on a handful of those late possessions. nice game by Felton too.

can’t wait to see Chandler get an A in the recap… :)

  122. ruruland

er: That long two on green was rediculous

Melo will attack them differently over the course of the series. He’s going to have some at the basket games with how Boston is defending him.

I actually think his 36 could be one of his lower outputs if Boston continues to single him, which appears to be their long term plan.

er: Don’t have too much fun lol

I’ma get drunk! Knicks playoff win, bro.

I think we should start White instead of Copeland. I know that sounds terrible. But he is a better defender. With all the switches being made, he’ll be a help against Bradley, Green and Pierce in the 1st quarter. Celtics’ first-string defense just shut Copeland down.

Hopefully, Chandler takes these next few days to eat some humble pie. He got benched, plain and simple. He needs to play better in the first half, no question, and not coast on last year’s near-meaningless (shortened season) defensive performance. But even if he doesn’t come out with more fire and finesse, at least Woodson has been struck by inspiration and realized KMart can shoulder the lion-share of minutes in tight games.

Offensive rebounding and turnover differential will be the prime advantages.

Knicks are a better spot-up shooting team. Period. That’s a third advantage.

Celtics got the better whistle, made every free throw, got huge games from Green and Bradley and lost.

There are a lot of ways to look at it.

AGain, last year the Celtics held opponents below 100 points in regulation in 19 of 20 games, including 6/7 against fucking Miami.

    The offense will get ugly.

Denver/GS. GS has the best player.

I thought Copeland was very solid on defense.

He can have a Jeff Green game in this series.

  127. mokers

That defense felt really infectious in the 4th quarter. Really liked the game Felton and Kidd put in. Kenyon’s energy level is absolutely amazing. Melo and JR had a lot that went in and out. I think they both need to drive to the basket a bit more, but we need to put in a few things to alleviate the ball pressure because the Celtics are waiting for it.

  128. DRed

Last year the Celtics were a different team. I still think we win in 5, but that was an ugly game by our offense.

  129. Z-man

Garnett and Pierce looked like they had no energy in the 4th quarter. They looked old. Did you see Pierce make thag lazy pass, and then let Melo get the angle on him on the fast break?

  130. mokers

Also, I think this was a great opening game. It gave the Knicks confidence that they can win when the shots aren’t falling. Not a lot heads hanging, even when they got down in the third. Winning the series over a team that owned the division and was seemingly looking forward to this matchup could mean great things for confidence going into the next series.

    BigBlueAL:
Holy crap, Celtics bench was 0 or 7 for 4 pts.

Jason Terry is just awful. And I love it (along with basically everybody else, lol). Called every single one of his misses with glee.

  132. Unreason

B-U-T-ful Team D just owned the sagging Cs; crushed them even though the Knicks offense was off and TS was lame. Most steals, most important steals don’t matter. The Team D was the whole deal and will only get better when Prig and the real TS return. Step 1 of Operation Demoralizing Smackdown complete. Any game when the Knicks Offense also clicks won’t be close.

  133. mr.JayP

Im excited to see if we make adjustments for the 2nd game fix our offense while retaining that 2nd half tenacious D.

  134. AnonymousODG

“I love it. Playoffs are my type of basketball because you’re playing every possession with heart and passion. There is no tomorrow,” Chandler said. “Every possession can determine the outcome of the series. There’s nothing like it. I love the intensity.”

Irony is irony. Step it up, Tyson.

ruru. if amare plays, we prob dont win this game. k mart wouldnt have gotten his minutes. amare prob would have score 13 on 5-10 shooting, 3-4 from the line, and screwed up our team defense while he was out there. the idea of amare sounds good in a vacuum, but this roster gives us the best chance. its just the reality

  137. BigBlueAL

Doc in his postgame press conference said he was most disappointed with allowing Melo to catch the ball late in the shot clock. Celtics plan is clearly deny him the ball and force the Knicks into those awful looking possessions where Felton or JR have to take some crazy shot as the shot clock expires.

Pretty disappointed with ESPN just now. Watched halftime of the Nuggets-Warriors game expecting to see some Knicks-Celtics highlights and a discussion of the game and nothing. It was as if they didnt even play earlier. Guarantee if the Knicks had lost there wouldve been alot of discussion of the game.

yeah, im actually interested to see if woodson is contemplating a lineup that has cope at the 5 with melo at the 4 when the cs have kg in there. it would really space the celtics out on defnese, and i dont get the sense that kg at this point would kill us on the offensive glass or in the paint. we will basically get the 12 foot turnarounds he gets anyways. now, of course we will have no rim protection, so the guards would have to keep their men in front of them, but it could be a lineup that could put up some points (read, open threes) for us

I’d take 18 minutes of Amare over Copeland/Novak’s combined 18 minutes any day. Seems obvious at this point. Celtics play big, and STAT wouldn’t have taken KMart’s minutes but played PF. I’m pretty positive that we would have shifted Melo into the SF position, which would have been great.

  140. johnlocke

    Interesting stat from ESPN Stats:

“Perhaps influenced by a hot first couple of minutes, Carmelo Anthony passed the ball on only three of 26 touches in the first half, and after his hot start, he missed 11 of his last 13 shots in the half.

In the second half, Anthony took a different approach. He passed 15 times on his 33 touches, the most important of which resulted in a key Kenyon Martin layup late in the game”

  141. Zanzibar

    ephus:
I’ve said it before, and I hope to say it again: This is a GREAT time to be a Knick fan.

This is the kind of repetition we welcome in contrast to the annoying cuckoo-clock-like interruptions of that troll Dog guy. Our team gutted out a gritty victory: “What doesn’t kill us will make us stronger.” Sure I’d much prefer the Hawks right now but if we can emerge victorious, we’ll be that much better (if our entire team is not in the hospital). The Mavs last season gave OKC a real scare in the first 2 games in Oklahoma and then folded mainly due to age. If we can win the next game, we should be in good shape.

  142. JK47

The Knicks just have a big built-in advantage against the Celtics because of the turnovers and offensive rebounds. So many extra possessions. The C’s have to either shoot out of their minds, play completely lockdown defense or hope the Knicks have an uncharacteristically bad day with turnovers to have much of a chance.

They were 19-19 from the line today and still lost, because the Knicks took 14 more FGA.

The Knicks advantage is that Celtics are playing without their best player: Rajon Rondo. And while BOS made a praise-worthy effort to salvage a post-season appearance with some inspired team play during the season, they shouldn’t expect to take down the Knicks.

Even Bill Simmons noted that a 4 pt lead at the half was about as much as BOS fans could hope for. Which is kind of a sad statement in and of itself. BOS needs a divine performance from Pierce or Garnett to take a game (or a horrible injury to a Knick). Simple as that.
