Playoff Game Thread: Knicks @ Celtics Game 6

Here we go! On a night where the NBA is having four, count ‘em four Game 6′s, for only the second time in league history (granted, the first round has only been seven games since 2003, but still!), the Knicks travel to Boston in an attempt to finally put these pesky Celtics out of their (and our) misery.

Tonight, we can hope that the Knicks bury the Celtics with a barrage of three-pointers instead of a barrage of rhetoric.

The Knicks are clearly the better team, so they should close things out tonight. It seems hard to believe that the Celtics could take three in a row from the Knicks, but I suppose crazier things have happened. Let’s hope that the Knicks don’t let said crazy things happen tonight.

We even made sure to have a game thread ready ahead of time for you all.

Let’s go Knicks!

Whatup beotches, you guys nervous yet? Ya should be. Your about to walk into the garden and soil your diapers. #chokejob

2. jon abbey

heh, now I am officially not worried, for the first time all season. tonight’s Celtics loss will be on your head, young troll.

3. Mulligan

Haha, jon abbey is the expert in what is an appropriate way to start a game thread. Has a fan from another team ever even commented on this board before? Amazing.

4. jon abbey

one addendum: no moderator should delete that first post. game thread karma!

5. ess-dog

It really does seem like the media has it in for Melo when they fish for kooky stats like this:

“Anthony shot poorly in Games 4 and 5, both losses; he was 10-for-35 in Game 4. According to Elias, only one other player in NBA history (Jamal Mashburn, 2001) has made less than 35 percent of his shots in consecutive games in which his team lost a potential series-closing game (minimum of 20 field goal attempts).”

6. d-mar

I have tickets for game 7, and I absolutely, positively do not want to go.

Step up and finish off the green men tonight boys, so we can all breathe again!

7. Kikuchiyo

Everyone thinks the funeral garb was a mistake.

I say double down: They should come out tonight in wheelchairs, in delicious reference to Paul Pierce.

8. Hubert Davis

Kikuchiyo:

If I thought we could back it up I’d love it.

9. BigBlueAL

I say if JR hits a big 3pter late in the game he should do Terry’s flying Jet celebration.

Lmaoooooo you gotta look hard for all of those filters in an excel spreadsheet

11. cgreene

er: Lmaoooooo you gotta look hard for all of those filters in an excel spreadsheet

They just keep putting in inputs until Melo and one other person show up in the results. Haha

12. Knicks4Eva

Let’s see the post timeout adjustments from the smelldicks, and how we respond.

Go NY!

13. Hubert Davis

I see this is going to be one those games where we have to fend off a comeback.

14. Nick C.

The last play was cool. Melo brings it up and hands it to Prigs by the FT circle. Melo runs left along the FT line and someone goes right. Prigs drives and when met dishes to a diving Shump. * now a few plays ago. meanwhlie PABLO PRIGIONI with 3s!!!

15. Hubert Davis

And there is the ref treatment I was talking about. 2 quick ones on Melo when the game was getting out of hand.

16. maxwell_3g

this can go one of two ways. goes to 20 by end or quarter or down to 6. that will likely decide this game

17. marechal

These hook fouls on Melo are only annoying because Garnett gets away with so much.

18. BigBlueAL

Refs have to start making their presence felt early to make sure this game isnt a blowout.

19. er

Refs have sucked tonight, bs off foul on Melo then kg knocks the ball out an it Boston ball smh here we go

20. cgreene

Literally just need JR to do 1 good thing here and end the quarter on a high note

21. er

marechal:
These hook fouls on Melo are only annoying because Garnett gets away with so much.

Every star player does it that’s the crazy thing yet I only see him called consistently for it

22. maxwell_3g

what up good JR!!!! where you at man!! tru….tru…well im glad to see you. feel free to chill for a minute or two.

23. maxwell_3g

I said it would be 20 or 6. i was wrong. but we are 5 hoops from getting it to 24. we get up 24, its trouble time for the celtics. lets forget about the scoreboard, comeout moving the ball and playing defense, and put this team to sleep 1980′s mike tyson style

24. Knicks4Eva

Maybe he won’t use Cope, but he left Prigs in for the entire quarter, following the hot hand.

That was the right move. And then Kmart for Melo.

Woody is definitely adjusting the rotation based on what’s actually happening, and that’s a good good thing.

25. Hubert Davis

Great work by the Salvatore crew keeping the C’s within shouting distance. It would be 30-7 without them.

Watch. They’re coming.

26. Hubert Davis

Real good job by Woody leaving the starters in longer than normal.

Not a fan of the Chandler + Martin lineup though.

27. david

I’m not sure why we don’t play Felton with Smith in our Meloless lineup. Not enough offensive punch in a Prigs/Smith/Kidd or Smump/2 bigs lineup.

Shump and Chandler were great on defense, good movement in the first 6 minutes..

28. er

Hubert Davis: Real good job by Woody leaving the starters in longer than normal.

I think we need that the way kg is dominating the flass

29. david

Still hating the 2 bigs. Not sure what it’s supposed to do, other than clog up our offense. They aren’t scoring in the post…..

30. Mulligan

Man, if Cope’s hurt, say he’s hurt. Otherwise put him in. Can’t be worse. Could be better.

31. Hubert Davis

Kidd behind the back to 4 Celtics.

Camby outjumped for a rebound by terrence williams.

But Copeland can’t play because he’s a rookie? Come the fuck on, Woodson.

32. david

Got to get a stretch 4 in — either Novak or Cope. Or even better, Carmelo. The offense has been brutal without him…

33. maxwell_3g

david:

yeah. i have to assume that cope is not available, because otherwise that lineup makes no sense. id almost prefer white (though not q-rich) to the 2 big lineup

34. Hubert Davis

er: I think we need that the way kg is dominating the flass

Who cares about the glass? We weren’t missing.

35. maxwell_3g

keep playing D!!!! keep moving the ball on O!!!! do not give them any hope

36. Frank O.

I’m grinding my teeth and we’re up by 18.
I want them to fucking bury this team.

37. bocker84

Hell yes. Finally. Ball movement and stout D. No heavy iso play. This is what my team is about.

PS – I don’t consider one bad hook call on Melo worthy of “The refs are squeezing the game” but I am curious about the hypothesis. That second one was a blatant hit on the shooter.

38. Frank O.

Credit the Boston fans. Down a lot and they’re still screaming for their team

39. david

Those two 3s hurt, but they are running Garnett into the ground. He can’t play that many minutes….

40. er

Hate this TO, btw the holding by the celtics on closeouts is bordering on Epic now

41. Frank O.

Stupid ISo by Melo. Stupid possession by felt bad layup by Melo.
What has happened to the flow

42. maxwell_3g

the natural reation is to give it to melo and tell him to get buckets. please resist this urde knicks. ball movement= winning

43. Hubert Davis

Dear Mike Woodson:

It was 21-4 with your starting lineup.

It’s 20-13 since you went to people who shouldn’t be playing.

Go back the lineup that was +17 in 8 minutes, please.

44. BigBlueAL

Knicks offense has still been pretty awful tonight, good thing Boston’s offense has been even worse.

45. er

Frank O.:
Stupid ISo by Melo. Stupid possession by felt bad layup by Melo.
What has happened to the flow

Melos drive was fine, just needs to dunk that shit, stop with the layups. If I was his coach that would be my biggest issue with him. Lol at Breen also

46. Brian Cronin Post author

This is good news, though. The Knicks are ahead big. They are good while playing ahead. The Celtics are down big and are not good at coming back. Think about the third quarters so far this series – the Knicks have won them all! They just need to bring an 8-10 point lead to the second half and they’ll be fine.

47. maxwell_3g

sorry guys. ,elo is not looking like the superstar we claim he is right now

48. david

I’d like to Shump guard Terry bring it up. I don’t think he’d be able to get it past half court…

49. marechal

It is hard to understand why they keep going to the bad iso offense. Seriously.

50. Brian Cronin Post author

The greatest player of the last 15 years, Lebron James, literally mailed in games in the Playoffs. Melo is not having a good series of games, but this is not a referendum on his abilities as a star.

really??? if its not time to step up now, when??? stop apologizing for him. its time for the stars to shine

52. Clyde_10

Why won’t Woodson put Copeland in the damn game …..should have done it in the first quarter when Melo had foul troubles

53. Brian Cronin Post author

Of course he should be playing better. It is not an excuse for him. It is a simple fact that good players have bad games. Each game is not a referendum on a player’s career. Like Paul Pierce shooting 1 for 10 does not define Paul Pierce at all.

54. maxwell_3g

we really need to stop allowing jeff green to get a head of steam…..hes been very good in those instances

Paul Pierce’s ring defines him.

56. Clyde_10

JR playing himself out of a max deal……….Woody really pissing me off Cope destroys Celtics always has

57. Brian Cronin Post author

It’s about to be a 12 point lead going into the half. Come on, they have this.

58. marechal

I’m glad he made this shot, but why can’t they run a damn P&R??? It has worked the entire system.

59. david

MELO!!! If we can go in up 12, that will be great. Key for the 2nd half: Stopping Pierce from getting back in the game. Shump, Kidd, & Felton will have to keep it up..

he has a championship and defining moments. and hes past his prime. completely different. im rooting for melo with all i have, but we dont not to start rolling out the melo excuses in the first half of a game when we are up 3-2. he needs to step up and shed his labels like all great players have. otherswise, hes T-Mac, ie: a very good scorer

61. bocker84

Brian Cronin:

Regardless the offense is outright anemic. We hold the Knicks to a high standard for an offense based team.

62. BigBlueAL

I will say this though, Melo’s defense tonight has been great. Real active in the passing lanes.

63. Brian Cronin Post author

There is no need for excuses. It is simply a matter of not defining players by whatever is most convenient towards the argument being made at that exact moment in time. Like Melo is a hero through Game 3 but a goat from Games 4-6? Or maybe he is a good player who had three good games followed by three bad games (heck, two bad games and one bad first half).

This board is hilarious

65. er

Melo has played fine in the first half. Ray and jr are actually the ones taking bad shots

66. david

I have no idea why we don’t run any action off the ball when Melo is in the wing iso. Send a cutter towards the basket. Have Chandler set a screen for JR Smith to pop to the top of the key. Something….

67. Brian Cronin Post author

And I have no problem whatsoever with “Melo, what the fuck?” or “Melo is playing like shit” or “Melo is killing us right now” or whatever else. I’m not saying you shouldn’t give a guy shit when he’s playing like shit, but just not over-arching stuff like (Melo has a good game) “Melo has proven he is a superstar” (Melo had a bad game) “Melo has proven he is a fraud!” or whatever.

68. JR Sec 112

er:

could not agree more. JR needs to step up. He is killing us. Melo is playing great D. If this is what I get from him in the 2nd half, I’m happy.

69. er

Lol calm down Brian I’m with you, I just think everyone is one edge, and it’s fun to blame Melo. I also find it hilarious that mike breen counts every Melo shot

70. cgreene

Maybe if the Knicks get to the ECF after slogging through this horrible ball their offense will get free again. One thing we know is that the Heat don’t play D like the Celtics and Pacers. The game will have more flow.

71. AnonymousODG

39-27 going into the third quarter. Keeping perspective on this, our defense was historic. Fewest points allowed in the first half. Celtics gave us a bit of our own medicine too by limiting us only to 39, but we can’t be too down on ourselves just because we’re not blowing them out.

It’s the Celtics; a veteran team and a veteran coach. Nobody should be expecting to blow them out.

Kidd has been playing pretty poorly tonight. Some heads-up strips, but a bizarre turnover in transition, an airball on a wide open shot, and passing up another shot for a 24 second shot clock violation (1 of several) doesn’t bode well. Maybe he’s just a bit worn out.

Anyway, our defense is amazing. We’ve been anticipating all the passes and just jumping their passing lanes; Melo, Shump, Felton, KMart, Chandler, Kidd, JR… The only guy that hasn’t, in fact, is our boy Prigs with 0 steals.

72. Brian Cronin Post author

Lol calm down Brian I’m with you, I just think everyone is one edge, and it’s fun to blame Melo. I also find it hilarious that mike breen counts every Melo shot

Ha! No, I know that. I wasn’t directing that at you. I just wanted to make it clear that I’m not saying he should be immune to criticism or anything like that.

11-24 Game 2
12-25 Game 3

How are any of these “hero” games? His shots have gone outright downhill since the season ended. The man was a hero during April and our glorious stretch when he looked like Neo at the end of the Matrix having the entire game slow down. Now? I don’t know what I’m looking at… but it sure isn’t my hero.

74. Brian Cronin Post author

What Indy is doing right now is what I fully expect the Knicks to do in the third. Pull away and just end this shit.

75. Brian Cronin Post author

By the way, who in the world would have guessed that both the Knicks and the Pacers would be playing Game 6′s after each of their respective Game 2′s? Sports can be crazy unpredictable sometimes!

76. d-mar

BTW, Jason Terry is such a stupid punk, doing his jet thing and smiling after his 3 and the Celtics are still losing by 10. Rivers should be in his face.

77. BigBlueAL

Anybody know if Knicks and Pacers win tonight if their series starts Sunday or Tuesday??

+1

its just not easy to score on Boston. It would have been nice if Melo made one of his 3s. If JR can put in 10-12 in the 2nd half, I think we have enough juice to get by. Which is all we really asked for to begin with.

79. Brian Cronin Post author

How hilarious was it that Bill Simmons did a “30 Questions for the Playoffs” article today and then didn’t actually ask 30 questions! :)

Ha ha, you’re right, I never thought about it, but Breen definitely does count every shot Melo takes and updates his shooting %. Does he do it for any other player in the NBA?

81. BigBlueAL

Al Iannazzone ?just tweeted that if the scores hold up Knicks vs Pacers Game 1 will be on Sunday. Time TBD.

Just scrolled up and caught this. He has 14 pts on 41% shooting, with 5 rebs, 2, asts, 2 stls and has been absolutely solid on defense (you see Green/Bass doing h1t this game???). He’s also got 2 turnovers on offensive fouls but has drawn 5 personal fouls from the Celtics.

What exactly do you guys expect in a single half of play when playing one of the better team defenses in the East playing on their homecourt?

84. AnonymousODG

Anybody else surprised that Anthony didn’t get called for a technical when he shouted, “Ball don’t lie!” on that free throw. Because I was hella surprised.

85. AnonymousODG

I love Prigs, but that turnover was as bad as Kidd’s was. Ugly enough to turn ya’ll to stone.

86. JR Sec 112

1. refs suck
2. I’m sick of Breen
3. Still love what I’ve seen from Melo in 3rd quarter. Not forcing, being great decoy, allows for penetration and wide open 3s as Cs pay so much attention to him

87. maxwell_3g

ray ray!!! despite his contant whining, he is rally the only one i trsut to battle through adversity!!

88. Knicks4Eva

You guys need to chill and save something for later in case Boston actually makes it close, which they haven’t yet.

89. AnonymousODG

Wow, never saw Felton play so angry and jaw like that. Talk about living up to your nickname, Bulldog. Respect.

90. Kikuchiyo

Hopefully Felton didn’t play in Denver long enough to imbibe the playoff suckiness that obviously affects all Nuggets and former Nuggets.

91. d-mar

Breen really does seem to get overly excited every time the Celtics cut the lead to 10 or 11.

92. cgreene

Smith’s game has left him. This is the playoffs. Bench him. Rather have Kidd, Prigs or Cope

93. cgreene

100. er

JR Sec 112:

This was huge going forward. They are confident as hell. Earl idk about

101. llcoolbp

Well obviously I was wrong for panicking, but I’m a Knick fan, so sue me. Just loving this right now. We need 3 more minutes of throat crushing play. Then clear the benches, and watch q-rich yuck it up on the court.

102. AnonymousODG

I want Melo and JR to do nothing but take jump shots from now on. They need to phucking get this crappiness out of their system and not bring it to the next round. Leave it all in Boston. Credit to their fantastic defense, but hooboy their shots haven’t been pretty.

103. BigBlueAL

I want to apologize to the people defending Shump earlier this year and who were totally against trading him while some of us were willing to trade him. You guys were 1000% right.

104. llcoolbp

Here we go again. Melo just has no lift. One has to wonder if his knee is acting up again. That’s the greatest problem with building around him. Physically, I don’t know if he can carry a team through 4 tough rounds.

105. AnonymousODG

106. Clyde_10

This is on Woody……players have to get their shis together and settle down

107. Frank O.

It starts with JR and Felton breaking down mentally and letting the celts feel life. Then Anthony really not playing well.
Kidd is a complete liability.
The Knicks best player is Shump and then prigs

108. d-mar

This sucks, but these massive runs usually end up in the rallying team coming up short. Just gives the writers something to criticize us for.

109. Frank O.

Um. This officiating is getting weird. That was a clear charge. The foul differential is huge.

110. AnonymousODG

What is Felton doing? Why is he not handling the ball and running the offense? Gotta get Prigs in there.

111. Kikuchiyo

If the Celtics take the lead, it really seems like Breen’s going to go feral, tear off all his clothes, and roll around on the Celtics logo.

112. llcoolbp

I just want them to escape with a win at this point. Then they need to get the taint of this series out of their system. Man this is some ugly basketball.

113. d-mar

I don’t give a fuck if the Knicks win by 1 or 26. Take the win on the road and move on to round 2.

114. Frank O.

This game turned when Melo returned. Shump and prigs left and we started Melo iso and the O stagnated while felt and JR showed how weakt hey are

Seriously, mang. Why is Meo bringing it up the court.

116. JK47

Another iso.

They stand around for 15 seconds, nobody moving, then Melo throws up a terrible shot off an iso.

Seriously what the fuck is going on here?

117. Frank O.

Why are we running the same play. Melo dribbles the clock out and hoist a prayer

118. BigBlueAL

My emotions have been all over the place tonight, I dont even know what to think or how to feel right now lol.

Happy and relieved are the 2 most prominent thoughts right now.

119. Juany8

Well Melo managed ice the game somehow. Had an absolutely awful 4th quarter, and it’s pretty funny that the Knicks finally score hen they run a Felton-Melo pick and roll instead of letting Melo go one on 5

120. Kikuchiyo

Is it possible to feel any worse about a series-clinching road victory against a hated rival? I feel weirdly terrible.

121. maxwell_3g

F’ jason Terry and all his big talk. I thought we were going to know who he was???!!!

That motherphucker has balls of steel, man. After giving up a 20-0 run in less than 5 minutes, with turnovers and missed shots and Melo having not even scored any points in the 2nd half with less than 5 minutes to go… how can he have the confidence to just go into straight iso mode and keep shooting as if nothing even happened?

123. BigBlueAL

Also THANK GOD for Chandler. Without scoring a basket he still saved the Knicks down the stretch.

I gotta say man… I have no idea how the Knicks regained their composure in the last 4 minutes of the game. Especially Melo and JR. Jesus, somehow they managed to score 10 of the last 12 points in the last 4 minutes of play. What an insane comeback.

135. yellowboy90

I don’t know how y’all werr able to post and watch. I had to stay away and focus. It’s over now time to move on and improve.

Still think Knicks will beat the Pacers (though at this point thats a 50/50 bet) but any faith/hope I had in possibly beating the Heat or giving them a tough series is completely gone right now.

But whatever, still thrilled as shit the Knicks won this series and after I get something to eat and this headache goes away I will be able to enjoy this win lol.

The first time the Knicks have made the second round since 2000. I will gladly take this, warts and all. I got to watch the Knicks win a playoff series. I am happy.

Garnett, pierce, and terry walking off like the bitches they are was priceless. Even though we had to suffer to get to that moment. Hopefully little boy melo can heal his boo boo’s by Sunday. So far his play has been putrid this post season. They will not face an offensively challenged team like the celtics in the next round.

Its a hazy memory, but I dont remember any of those Knicks-Heat, Knicks-Pacers, or Knicks-Bulls series’ in the 90s having any ‘easy’ wins. Whether we struggled at the end or not, tonight was a GREAT win, on the road in Boston.

Thank you Iman Shumpert, your defense clinched this series.

Nah, man. Woodson completely won that game in the last 4 minutes with his coaching. That was pretty mind-boggling. We had everything going against us, were staring down an historic collapse, and somehow he managed to get the team to reset and run the offense (Melo iso, JR penetration) as if nothing had ever happened.

er: U sir are insane

+1

We beat the Celtics in 6 games with 3 dominant wins. Shump is seemingly in the best shape of his career, and our (current) frontcourt is decently healthy. Ask anybody on this board at the start of the season what they’d give to be in this position, and they’d sell their baby’s soul for it.

You should be proud of how the Knicks defense has stepped up with its offense stifled and shooting gone ice cold, but I think I know (most Knicks fans) and the media.

Oh well.

Chandler and Shump were fantastic. Shump and Felton were the MVPs of the series.

I really hope Woodson takes a close look at his rotations. Kidd should really only be getting 10 minutes a night and he certainly should never be playing the point- Prigs needs to play more. Also, as long as he’s not in foul trouble Chandler needs to be getting 38 minutes- other than a couple of blocks tonight, Martin has been a non-factor the last three games. Finally, hopefully Woodson sees that Shump deserves major burn, certainly 30+ minutes esp. if JR continues to struggle.

Melo was pretty good the first three games of the series offensively. Really bad offensively the last three. I thought he had a very good defensive series, guarding multiple positions and helping keep Boston off the glass.

But again, when he was involved in pick and rolled they really hugged him and that opened up some penetration. A lot of Felton’s success was due to Melo’s defender absolutely refusing to help anywhere on the floor.

But Melo will get buried regardless after this series, so it doesn’t matter. But he’ll be better next round on offense.

I just hope that Melo gets his shoulder right and that someone pops that little bitch Garnett in the back of the head while he’s crying in the parking lot.

He was right then but now Shumpert has totally and completely turned the Knicks into potentially an elite defensive team again. Totally agree with ruru about Melo opening up the lane for Felton this game. Also, after going 0-7 in 2nd half, he hits a key jumper and then his 1st 3 in his last 5 games attempts in the clutch. Props to Melo. He didnt shoot well, but he still took us home.

I think the Knicks D was stout most of he game, but Boston missed a hell of a lot of open looks.
I think the Knicks totally mentally relaxed at 26 up.
Prigs and Shump went out, Melo came in and also JR, and JR and Felton gave the ball away several times. Then they reverted to iso Melo and the celts were off.
JR’s new maturity is a paper-thin facade. Felton is somewhat weak mentally, and Melo loses trust.
I hope this is just Boston. Those guys know how to fuck with the Knicks. You can see them talking at them all game.
My main hope is this win exorcises those demons.
This series was a complete grinding brawl, which is the only way the celts stand a chance.

Melo will explode at some point. There is no question about it. But let’s all remember that the Knicks aren’t going to make this deep run without playing elite defense. They’re playing it now.

If you expend a ton of energy defensively (unlike these WC games) and you’re facing a great defensive team, statistics mean something a bit different.

Paul Pierce was 4-18 with 5 turnovers. You won’t hear about him choking.

Teams combined to shoot under 40 % for the series. Frame of reference is important.

175. david

They definitely d-ed up on Melo all series, shifting their defense so that there was always a help man (or two) if he went to the basket and tugging him on PnRs. (Oh, and trying to hurt him — that Garnett play in Game 5 was awful). I think the excessive reliance on Isos is more Woodson’s fault than Melo. We need to move off the ball when Melos is facing up. The play where Felton came off the pindown screen and picked up the dribble handoff from Melo, who looked like he was in full iso-mode is what we need to see.

Oh, that and more Shumpert. I think he’ll give Paul George all he can handle.

Miami lost 4 straight games in the Finals. I’d say they have pretty good mental fortitude. They came apart at the seams in Indiana.

This happens in the playoffs, guys. Teams are really good, there is constant pressure, and you will make mistakes for a period of time.

Can you make the important shots before the run gets out of hand? Will you continue to play defense when the opponent turns it up?

Melo just needs to keep passing like he did early. His passing will open lanes for him eventually. I kind of understand the iso late due to the rapid turnovers and just wanting to get a shot up. Melo still needs to call the screener and someone needs to cut like Pablo was doing

Ty’s rim protection was legit today. He and Shumpert are certainly our best defenders, but I really thought everyone defended at a high level tonight and this series. Great close-outs, switching is on point. Very good on the ball all over the roster.

I know it’s fools gold thinking they are going to get anything from Stat, but they are going to need him if they have any shot against the heat. This is the series where he can shake off his rust. Of course there were. Although obviously not a playoff atmosphere. But the common thread in most of those games is that they executed their offense. Only makes the decision to go mega-iso at times more puzzling to me.

191. Dan Panorama

I’m just glad we got Boston out of the way. There’s a reason Knicks were pulling bullshit like the funeral stunt — they’ve been traumatized by these guys for years and they wanted to believe they were past it. I really hope this convinces the players that this isn’t the Isiah Knicks or the Melo and no help Knicks and they just can get back to playing their style of ball from the end of the season.

192. JR Sec 112

No one’s going to criticize Frank Vogel for almost blowing a 19 point lead vs. Atlanta tonight. Or Paul George for going 2-10 and not getting to the line once. Or Mark Jackson for letting Denver erase an 18 point lead and give Denver a chance to tie at the buzzer. Or Steph Curry for having 7 turnovers.

Everyone needs to lighten up on Woody and Melo and everyone else (ok, Jason Kidd was pretty bad). This was the best night in the last 13 years to be a Knick fan. And given all the talk about this being Red Sox-Yankees ’04 redux, it really could have been much, much worse.

Blowing the 26 pt lead had more to do with sloppy turnovers by Felton, Kidd and JR and a healthy serving of homecooking by the refs with the whistles. Let’s not forget that the free throws disparity was absurd (16 for the Knicks and 33 for the Celtics).

I, too, was going nuts with Melo dribbling the ball up the court for end-to-end iso, but dat mofo did score 7 of the last 12 points. Besides Shump’s steal/layup to end the 20-0 run, those 7 pts were pretty much the most clutch of the game (and the series).

Sure there was a big Boston run and some ugly play by the Knicks, but Hubert Davis was totally right in the last thread. The refs got totally sucked into the crowd and made some truly awful blocking calls on the Knicks. That run is dead in its tracks of they call the charges that happened.

No matter- alls well that ends well

Agree with Doc- Shumpert was our best and most consistent player tonight. Drove the ball, shot the ball, rebounded, and absolutely was in Pierce’s jockstrap all night. That steal and lay-in that stopped the run was the biggest play of the game, and that follow jam on Prigs’s layup was huge too.

I actually feel really good about the pacers series.

llcoolbp: According to big blue al he won’t play Sunday.

Well more like according to Marc Berman lol. Here was his tweets earlier tonight:

“Stoudemire won’t dress Sunday whether it is Game 1 or Game 7.”

“Woodson on Stoudemire: “He’s not at that stage yet.” Amar’e did hard workout this morning st Suffolk U, running.”

Hey everyone take a big breath. We beat our nemesis! Tough, physical series and in the end Melo, JR hit a few shots to show some spine. Half of us thought the Knicks would fold after that brutal 4Q run, or after the Game 5 disaster, but they pulled it out. 6 months ago I tell you Shump, Chandler, Prigs and Ray would each play strong D and pour in 51 points in a defensive battle to dispatch the C’s in Boston in 6… you would have bought a bridge from me.

Hibbert on TV: “We haven’t played well in New York.” We blew them out twice at MSG. Home court in the second round. Don’t get greedy. This steel we managed to show will help this team hone its resolve when greater challenges down the road present themselves.

Frank O.:
Btw, there is no way the celts should have had twice as many free throws.

Predictable. A Boston/NY game 7 on national tv Sunday was in the cards.

198. Z-man

Fuck the Celts. Now we get Indiana, they have nobody with playoff success experience. BRING THEM ON!!!

I was surprised that the refs didn’t blow the whistle on that clean strip/block by Melo on Pierce’s last shot, which eventually led to the JR layup. Thought for sure they would, even after JR dribbled it across halfcourt, lol.

BTW, Shump just moved up 50 spots on my favorite Knick ever list tonight lol. Similar to Derek Harper becoming a Knick legend in Games 6-7 vs Indiana and the entire NBA Finals in 1994 Shump’s game tonight earned that type of status in my eyes.

Always easier for role players to gain that status though since they arent expected to play well all the time lol.

Lol at Woody constantly saying “again” when he’s saying something for the first time

What’s special is you can see the evolution of shump right before our eyes. Handles better, finished better, shooting 3′s better, and the defense is back. With an entire offseason he can transform into a truly special player. He could be our saving grace for the next several years since we are handcuffed by the cap.

just finished on DVR because I had to hit a concert earlier, but um, yay. if that really was the end of the Garnett/Pierce era, nice to be the ones to end it, even hanging on for dear life.

did my boy Shump get in the game tonight? :)

i love shump more than is comprehensible. his defense is cray. but i am not at all sold on shump as a finisher yet

My boy out of winter haven, fl putting on a show. I told y’all about Parsons

Seeing Shump do the Jet wings was absolutely gorgeous. Screw that guy. Personally, I never felt threatened when the Celtics made that surge in the 4th quarter since Paul Pierce was playing a terrible game all night. The job Shumpert did on Pierce tonight (and at the end of game 5) makes me believe 21 Shump Street is back. I can’t wait to see what he does with Paul George next round. That should be an interesting dynamic next round.

Great win.

Whatup beotches, you guys nervous yet? Ya should be. Your about to walk into the garden and soil your diapers. #chokejob

It’s frightening to think how dangerously close this “First!” comment came to being reality. In my defense, I only pee’d my pants when our lead was cut to 4. So there.

Fisher just, like, punched Harden in the head and no foul was called. He’s sneaky like that.

Wait, Perkins SHOULDN’T play? Ohhhhhhhhhh.

Man, Brooks is so dumb for taking this long to realize it.

heh, now I am officially not worried, for the first time all season. tonight’s Celtics loss will be on your head, young troll.

Karma.

Sooooo relieved. #13yearsinthemaking #celebration

So just like 2003, all four Game 6′s ended with close-out wins. Weird.

214. smokinjoe

ruruland: Shump is our Jeff Green. I was scoffed at when I said all-star potential (except of course for Abbey and couple others), but he can be an amazing 4th best player on a great team (and a good third best player), as the Knicks could have for awhile moving forward.

if he can take a little pressure off the other guys with a few games like this, he’ll have to be accounted for in a major way.

If only he could finish at the rim like Green

215. art vandelay

If you are saying that you all didn’t think that Pierce 3 was going to nail that 3 with the Knicks up 6 and a few minutes left, then you honestly have not watched any games the past few years…I, personally, was shitting my pants…he clearly is not the same player.
