just weather their storm and keep playing defense. if that happens, they will be at 80 at the end of the game, and i trust that we will be higher than that

  2. lavor postell

The Celtics are off to a great offensive start and they have 12 points about halfway through the first quarter. While our offense without JR will certainly suffer today it couldn’t happen against a more offensively inept team.

  3. rohank

I count 3 uncalled fouls by the celtics so far. The NBA really wants me to believe this conspiracy…

  4. maxwell_3g

man, has stern called the fix in for this one or what??? every call for the celtics. terry allowed to yap without worry of getting a t. paul pierce mystery fouls. melo getting mugged. cmon knicks, fight through

  5. mr.JayP

Melo really isn’t taking quality shots. He needs to pass more and choose his shots better

  6. ephus

Novak that open? Knicks need Felton to push the ball in transition so they can get easy looks like that.

  7. lavor postell

Novak open trailer 3 off of a turnover should just be an automatic 3 points every time.

  8. maxwell_3g

    Will the Thrill:
Ugh Melo looks like shit today

weve seen this before. he needs to settle down and get a couple easier shots and find his rythem (im pretty sure thats not how you spell it)

  9. Hubert Davis

Guys it isn’t a conspiracy. The NBA stands to lose over millions if we win this game and they will do everything they can do to make sure we don’t. Teams have been dealing w this forever. It can be overcome. But it’s not a conspiracy theory. It’s a real thing that happens every single time. We benefited from it last year v Miami.

Well, KMart blatantly shoved off that second-to-last possession. So the refs are calling it fair to my eyes.

Anyway, I’ve been reminded that Novak needs to score this game. Celtics are going to do their best to deny Melo and Felton. The scoring has to come from somewhere else. And, no. It ain’t coming from Copeland. Not against Bass or Green.

  11. Hubert Davis

Also, I find myself in foreign land, the Upper East Side. Watching at a bar w too many Celtic fans in it. Anyone near by watching this somewhere better?

  12. ephus

Novak did everything right on that possession except hit the 3 after he faked off two (?!) guys running at him on the line.

And now ‘Melo gets the chance for the conventional 3 point play.

I am still optimistic about this game.

  13. mr.JayP

Upper east side? With too many celtics fans? Really? Lol

  14. rohank

LOL that shot by Terry was a HUGE travel. You can see Jason Kidd saying “Are you kidding me” (no pun intended) to the ref

  15. lavor postell

Hahaha the Celtics play their best quarter in 2 games and they’re up 5 at the end of 1. Knicks playing like shit and not even sweating it.

man, if novak hit that that would have been one of my fave novak plays ever. the 2 celts that jumped at them practically jumped into the 5th row

  17. Brian Cronin

I’m sure that the Knicks will win this game, but even if they don’t, it’s hard to get too worked up about it. Winning in five games is not a big difference.

  18. ruruland

Bass is a good match-up on Melo because he’s strong and Melo doesn’t flop when he gets bodied on drives like other guys. Melo’s first step has been beating Bass all the time.

  19. AnonymousODG

What in the name of Jesus’ butthole is Quentin Richardson doing out there??? Copeland has earned his playoff minutes. That’s garbage.

  20. ruruland

    maxwell_3g:
i hate it when melo dribbles back and forth before making his move

He’s getting his defender off balance. That hesitation dribble is really effective.

  21. BigBlueAL

This might be the worst lineup ever put on the floor by a 2 seed in the 2nd quarter of a playoff game.

  22. ruruland

    DRed:
Maybe the whole team went out with JR last night?

Look at the lineup bro. This should be no surprise at all.

  23. dogrufus

woodson just fucking threw this game by putting in q rich. not only is q rich absolutely fucking awful, he’s a horrendous offensive player when we need scoring bad with JR out.

WHERE THE FUCKING SHIT IS COPELAND

  24. ephus

Quentin Richardson is not the answer, unless the question is how to jump start the CELTICS’ offense.

  25. Hubert Davis

Come on guys. Look at that no continuation on tyson and tell me it’s a “theory.”

  26. mr.JayP

Who would have thunk it that we would be begging for Cope in a potential 4 game sweep of Bos. Celtics. Lulz.

  27. Knicks4Eva

omg wtf were Q and Novak in together? Why were there no timeouts to stop that bullshit?

    @&%^$!#%$#%#

  28. AnonymousODG

    That is not a foul.

    maxwell_3g:
i hate it when melo dribbles back and forth before making his move

Melo has the quickest pull-up jumper I’ve seen in recent memory. His dribble step pull-up is an inimitable part of his repertoire. It’s not like bad JR, when he meanders around mindlessly and just jacks something up because he realized, “Oh shit, I just held the ball for 6 seconds doing nothing.” It is very calculated.

    er:
Lol at the Melo overreaction every first half this series

Agreed. Melo has consistently started slow in every single one of these games but has obviously heated up late in the second quarter or second half. We just need to weather this intensity to start.

  29. rohank

You make BULLSHIT calls like that offensive foul call on Melo and then he gets clobbered with no call? WTF

  30. dogrufus

Breen: “Where do the Knicks get a second scoring option without JR Smith?”

I DON’T KNOW MIKE MAYBE THAT FUCKING GUY CHRIS COPELAND YOU SAW SCORE EFFECTIVELY ALL GODDAMN SEASON

  31. Brian Cronin

The slow starts are fine against Boston (for instance, they’ll almost certainly win this game still), but that has to be a slight concern against Indiana. Indy’s offense is terrible, but when they have a lead they tend to keep it.

  32. rohank

Melo HAS to know by now that he isn’t going to be getting any calls this game, so just take a good shot. Don’t try to “draw the foul”.

  33. Brian Cronin

@70: Shit – I can’t delete my own idiotic comments?

If you wanted #70 gone, I deleted it.

  34. AnonymousODG

    maxwell_3g:
if this is at 5 at the half, we are where we need to be

If it’s a 10 pt lead, I won’t be worried. We’ve come back from much worse against much better teams.

    lavor postell:
My god the officiating is fucking awful.

In their defense, Celtics have been called for more fouls than the Knicks. 11-9. If the positions were reversed, and Melo got that call on a driving Pierce, we wouldn’t complain. Simple as that.

  35. lavor postell

Hahaha loose ball foul on Chandler and no foul on Melo’s drive. Righhhhtttt (Dr. Evil voice).

  36. rohank

I really love Van Gundy: “I was always more annoyed by mosquitos at a barbecue than gnats…”

  37. mr.JayP

Woodson has to put the brakes on melo and this offense. It’s just not working to our favor.

  38. lavor postell

These foul calls are getting absurd now. So Green gets more respect on every drive than Melo? Get the fuck out of here.

  39. AnonymousODG

Shump has been terrible today (not just the shots, but the sloppy passes and poor transition defense, etc.). Prigs has been somewhat absent. Kidd apparently isn’t even on the Knicks anymore. That’s the real difference here.

  40. Brian Cronin

If it’s a 10 pt lead, I won’t be worried. We’ve come back from much worse against much better teams.

Exactly. It could be ten going into the fourth and I’d be confident in the Knicks pulling this out.

  41. rohank

ok. the refs have called a 5-sec violation, lane violation, random techs, taking away continuations. For the Knicks to run the cycle of conspiracy calls, they just need to be called for an 8-second violation.

  42. maxwell_3g

we have missed the roller on the pick and roll a few time today. felton really missed k mart there

Lawl, wishful thinking on our parts.

  44. Brian Cronin

They can still obviously come back, but yeah, down 19 at the half is not good. Whatever, though, they’re up 3-0, they can afford a stinker mixed in there.

  46. mr.JayP

    BigBlueAL:
I dont care that its 3-0 in the series, this is fucking embarrassing.

Even tho melo is playing horrible.

We aren’t playing quality D nor are we executing on O. Way too much dribbling and long two’s or contested shots by Melo.

  47. BigBlueAL

Alright man time for a nap. I had to wake up early today which already has me extra cranky right now. A good power nap should allow me to wake up and not care about this game today and just look forward to taking care of business on Wed and fulfilling my Knicks in 5 prediction lol.

If Chi can come back, dammit so can we!

Wow Melo literally playing his worst game of the season.

I don’t understand this….he’s been to the line 11 times. Has half the points and this is his worst half? Get off the ledge gentlemen. Knicks are sucking it up as a whole and celtics are making shots. Lets see what happens in 2nd half

  50. AnonymousODG

A sudden realization: Melo is playing exactly like Pierce has been the previous 3 games. Missed shots, a step slow, going through the motions uninspired, and turnover-prone.

  51. Business Socks

We’ve seen this script 2 times in this series already. Celtics shoot well in the first half and then get shut down in the second. We need to find some better shots on the offense to pull this out though.

  52. Hubert Davis

Only question here is whether or not Woodson is in on the conspiracy.

We’re going to win this in 2nd half thiugh

Agreed 100%. Melo isn’t playing well, but he alone is not to blame for this. Melo has done a good job of offsetting his scoring with 5 TOs. Shump is playing outright terrible. Prigs, Kidd, Felton, KMart making little to no impact so far. Chandler is doing his job against Garnett (only 4 pts).

Like I said, Novak needs to be put in and get the lionshare of JR’s minutes. His defense was good when he was in. Copeland also deserves a shot. I don’t think he’ll do sh1t, but he deserves a shot.

  54. er

Difference is Melo is being gaurded by bass while PP has lil Ray on him. So nah i don’t think so

He’s 3-15 from the field with 5 turnovers. “He has half the points” is just a way of saying our offense has been terrible, primarily due to Melo’s inability to create better shots/not turn the ball over

  56. Brian Cronin

The one sliver of good news in the first half was that Chandler looked good. Need him healthy against Indy and especially Miami.

  57. dogrufus

    Business Socks:

Our inability to score consistently is a huge issue in this series. Miami’s defense won’t be any worse than Boston’s, and we’ll never be able to rely on holding them below 30 in a half.

  58. ephus

    Knicks – 5 assists, 12 turnovers.
    Celtics – 13 assists, 8 turnovers.

Knicks will turn those numbers around in the second half. If the Knicks can score 80 points in this game, I still think they will win. Celtics have shown they will not score over 25 points in a second half.

  59. AnonymousODG

    Knicks4Eva:
I don’t think Novak’s defense was good today, did I miss something?

He played limited minutes but I thought his defense wasn’t just good, but excellent. Not just his help defense, as I’m pretty sure the Celtics never scored on him even in 1-on-1 situations.

Anyway, this mofo’s got Celtics flying into the stands by the handful to stop his shot. It’s hard to argue that his presence wouldn’t be beneficial. And imagine if he made that 3-ptr? He nearly turned this entire game around single-handedly with one move.

    PUT NOVAK IN THERE.

  60. er

Frankly, giving ANY minutes to Q Rich and zero to Copeland in a game we can’t score doesn’t make it look good for him

  62. ephus

Prigioni was going to get the turnover, unless Pierce gave the ball up.

KG just picked up foul #4.

This is going to get interesting.

  63. Brian Cronin

Remember that game when the Knicks and their opponent (Milwaukee?) didn’t score a single point until more than two minutes had played? This quarter reminds me of that game.

  64. ephus

Game 1. 1998 World Series. Yankees looked awful against Kevin Brown through 6 innings. But they got his pitch count up, and Brown got pulled in the 7th inning with the Yankees down only 3. Tino Martinez hit a grand slam, and the game (and series) was over.

Celtics front court are all getting into foul trouble. Rivers is going to have to go to his non-existent bench.

This is going to get interesting.

  65. Brian Cronin

How predictable are the third quarters in this series? You’d think Doc would try SOMEthing different.

  66. Hubert Davis

I’m a yanks fan, too, but Tino should’ve struck out looking on the 2-2 pitch.

The league wants Boston to win. So be it. Knicks in 5.

  67. ephus

So long, Brandon Bass. That was the most foolish thing he could have done at that moment.

    This game IS interesting.

  68. mr.JayP

Shump might be playing bad offensively but you have to give him credit for his hustle and drive…

  69. Brian Cronin

Too many free throw misses this period. And they were hitting them so well until now.

  70. Will the Thrill

First game in a loooong time where Chandler has clearly outplayed Martin. Martin hasn’t been great today.

  71. Frank O.

Hard to criticize Melo, these days, but the worst game he’s played in a long time. He’s allowing the Celts to frustrate him.

  72. er

Wow the fix is in folks….3 bs offensive fouls on Melo and just general fuckery by the refs today

  73. maxwell_3g

at this point, im not even complaining about the refs as a knicks fan. they have just been horrible both ways.

  74. mr.JayP

    Brian Cronin:
    Too many free throw misses.

    agreed,

kinda perplexing cope isnt getting atleast a few minutes to help spread the floor. Shump has no legs to hit a shot from beyond the arc…

  75. Brian Cronin

First game in a loooong time where Chandler has clearly outplayed Martin. Martin hasn’t been great today.

At least it’s been a case of Chandler playing well and not just playing less bad than Martin!

    +1.

If the Knicks are within 11 at the end of the third quarter, they’ve got this.

  77. AnonymousODG

    Business Socks:
These refs are absolutely horrible on both ends.

Which is fine. Knicks are clearly getting the benefit of it.

    Will the Thrill:
First game in a loooong time where Chandler has clearly outplayed Martin. Martin hasn’t been great today.

Good observation. I’d submit that Chandler has mainly been playing against Garnett (a comfort zone for him), while KMart has been playing against the second unit and having to deal more with Green and Pierce and the rest (not a comfort zone when they’ve been red hot).

  78. Brian Cronin

If the Knicks are within 11 at the end of the third quarter, they’ve got this.

    Such a specific number. :)

But yeah, just like with the Heat and Bucks, the Knicks are just so much better than the Celts that they can go on an extended run so easily.

  79. ephus

Pierce cannot put the ball on the floor against the Knicks. I was just about to type that I no longer fear Pierce before he drew that foul. But the old Pierce would have gotten three free throws.

  80. Unreason

Ray doing his Nate Robinson impression here. A second half like games 1 or 2 is still all they need.

  81. Brian Cronin

I guess there’s nothing he can do, but wow, four straight games where the Knicks annihilate the Celtics in the same quarter. You’d think Doc would try SOMEthing different, no?

But good for the Knicks. This one is pretty much in the bag now.

  82. ephus

Brian Cronin: Such a specific number. :)

But yeah, just like with the Heat and Bucks, the Knicks are just so much better than the Celts that they can go on an extended run so easily.

Al McGuire used to talk about plateaus. Any lead of less than 7 points was “essentially close.” 7 – 11 points was a “real lead”, but just “one run away.” More than 11 points was a “big lead.”

Celtics let this game slip away when they committed silly fouls between the 3:00 and 8:00 mark of the third quarter. Rested ‘Melo coming off the bench is going to work the foul-troubled Celtics.

This is a GREAT time to be a Knick fan.

  83. Frank O.

Damn it. Melo is so off of his game tonight. He’s forcing the issue too much. Hs turnovers are killing me.

  84. Business Socks

Win or lose, the contributions Shump and Raymond have made in this second half are HUGE for the Knicks moving forward.

  85. mr.JayP

call me crazy, but i think i want felton with the ball in hands more than melo right now to help us get us the lead.

  86. rohank

I love how many knick fans are in the crowd. Anyone else hear the “defense” chants for the Knicks at the end of the 3rd?

  87. AnonymousODG

    Business Socks:

I’ve hated on Shump this entire game, but he’s seriously stepped up. He is completely unphased by the ticky-tack foul calls and has just gone into straight up EFF YOU mode. Wow.

  88. AnonymousODG

Finally, the foul trouble is paying dividends. Anthony has to keep forcing the issue.

  89. rohank

It’s like Rocky 4: “you hear chants now for Rocky Balboa! Suddenly Moscow is pro-Rocky!!!”

  90. Frank O.

The Knicks need to drive like crazy. bass, and KG are going to pull away from every drive.
Melo will foul these fuckers out. It’s the best part of his game tonight: collecting celtics’ fouls.

  91. ephus

And Kevin Brown – I mean Brandon Bass – gets pulled from the game. Get ready for the New York grand slam.

  92. AnonymousODG

Melo should have called for a screen there. He’s running the offense now. Obviously, he can create his own shot, but he isn’t hitting it. He should have called for a screen there. Lucky we got the offensive rebound.

  93. ephus

That hurt. ‘Melo has to get out of his head and just play his game.

And the Knicks take the lead.

THIS is a great time to be a Knick fan.

  94. mr.JayP

its an understatement to say that Felton and Shump stepped up in ths game, especially in the 2nd half…wow…

  96. Frank O.

    Melo has two assists.
But the way he’s drawing attention he should be dishing like crazy.
    Too much Iso.

  97. maxwell_3g

in ATL, they have decided to give us a severe weather report instead of showing us the rest of the game!!!!! WTF!!!!!

  98. AnonymousODG

Poor playmaking. You can’t give Anthony the ball at the 3 pt line with 6 seconds left on the shot clock.

  99. Will the Thrill

How many times can Chandler bail us out? It’s like people are afraid to shoot at the end of games without giving it to Melo first.

  100. maxwell_3g

thanks to local atl station, i have no idea what just happened. sounds like melo screwed up

  101. DRed

If Q Rich hadn’t played 2 minutes we would have won in regulation. Time to finish these assholes off

  102. mr.JayP

    maxwell_3g:

wow that has to suck…and yes…yes he did. but it was more of lack of having and executing a sound offensive play…

  103. ephus

That KG shot was the swan song of his Celtic career. Knicks win this one going away in the last two minutes.

  104. Brian Cronin

The “shot clock get reset to 14 instead of 24 on a foul with less than 14 seconds left on the shot clock” was one of the NBA’s best rule changes.

  105. d-mar

Yeah Terry has always been clutch, except for the entire season and the first 3 games of the playoffs

  106. llcoolbp

earl can’t come back fast enough. Also can we stop the nonsense talk that amare would disrupt this team. They absolutely could have used his offensive game today.

  107. AnonymousODG

Don’t understand why they didn’t keep gunning towards the basket, Felton, Shump or Melo.

  108. Brian Cronin

Impressed with the Celtics this overtime. They had shown nothing in the third or fourth, so I am utterly shocked that they had this much grit in overtime. This reminds me of Game 4 in last year’s Knicks/Heat series. One gritty win just to avoid a sweep. Of course, game isn’t over yet, not with the way that the Knicks shoot threes.

  109. Frank O.

If Melo makes those two foul shots late, this game is already over.
The guy has been masterful, but this game has been as ugly as it gets

  110. maxwell_3g

well, hopefully melo got that one out of his system and we can just end this going away in a couple of days

  113. BigBlueAL

Now I have to read 3 days worth of crap about the old and proud Celtics not going down quietly.

  114. Will the Thrill

Really should’ve gone to Felton at the end of regulation on at least 1 of 5 shots to ice the game.

  115. er

I hate the fact that we have to wait a week to play The next game. This loss is on Melo tho, gotta rebound the next game

  116. mr.JayP

Even tho this was an ugly game from start to finish, down 20-19 at the half…came back to lose it in overtime with great performances from ty,felt and shump.

Im still upset that our guys have to suit up for another freaking game in the 1st round. shoulda been resting instead…

  117. Frank O.

    Melo
    10-35
    0-7 from 3
    2 assists and 7TOs
    16-20 from the line

If one of our guys gets hurt next game, I’m going to freak…lol

  118. AnonymousODG

Celtics shot lights out when it counted, completely disrupted Carmelo, and caused turnovers. Time to move on to Game 5.

Yeah, down 19 at the half. Shows we won’t countenance being blown out, even when we’re playing poorly as a team.

  119. d-mar

Well if Melo was going to have one putrid game in the postseason, this was the one we could deal with. Needs to bounce back big next game though.

And let’s be honest, if JR plays, is there any doubt who wins this game?

Well if Melo was going to have one putrid game in the postseason, this was the one we could deal with. Needs to bounce back big next game though.

And let’s be honest, if JR plays, is there any doubt who wins this game?

All I know is west better be gone

i refuse to watch this heatless game and watch them get all the calls and watch a horrendous Bucks team try and even make them sweat.

Shit may be better to win in 5 god knows the 2nd round don’t start till June smh

    Right? Such a crazy schedule.

Melo shot 9-32, QRich played, no JR Smith, and we still almost got the game anyway. Hawks too game 3 against the Pacers. It aint’t all bad no matter how much it sucked watching Jason fucking Terry come through at the end. Looking forward to game 5 in NY.

Very disappointed they couldn’t pull it out in overtime. One positive was Shump in the second half- Woodson has to feel comfortable giving him more minutes- as much as I love Kidd it’s tough to play a guy who can’t/won’t shoot the ball 37 minutes. Both he and Prigs had numerous open threes they passed up when the Knicks were really struggling offensively.

I loved shumpie today….he showed some of the grit he did last year. I expect a beat down in game 5 with earl back

That one sucked…I was just about to turn it off before the run and thought “just a few more minutes.” Making that comeback only to lose in OT (which we’ve not been very good in all year) hurt. But then I remember the Nets and that reminds me it’s good to be a Knick fan. The sweep would have been sweet, but winning game 5 in the Garden for our first series in 13 years blunts the hurt from this loss a bit.

They went away from what was working (Felton) to what wasn’t (Melo). Hopefully they can use this as a learning experience when the loss doesn’t cost too much.

pretty disappointing game by Melo, although if you’re going to have one of those in the playoffs, up 3-0 on the road is the time to do it.

Chandler is horrendous at getting the ball in the halfcourt as I’ve been saying all season. he was open some, but his teammates know that unless he gets the ball right at the rim, it’s unlikely good things will happen.

that Q substitution was insane, it’s like when a guy shooting FTs gets hurt and can’t take them and the opposing coach gets to pick the worst shooter on the other team to do it. if Rivers had been allowed to pick a Knick to play a few minutes, it would have been Q. hopefully that never happens again.

anyway, we’ll get it on Wednesday.
