It’s Zach Randolph as well at least, who ESPN quotes today as saying something similar (“We need the fans to be supportive with us, even when we’re down” ). My suspicion is that Isiah might be trying to create an us-against-the-world atmosphere in the locker room, using the fan reaction as part of that. Which would be almost clever, except that even if he buys it, it’s still not getting Randolph back down the court on defense any quicker.

I’ve never understood why teams expect fans to vocally support them at all times. People don’t cheer for the sake of cheering, they do it when they have something to get excited about. Open three pointers by Nowitzki are not something for Knicks fans to get excited about.

I’m just waiting for the day when some fan sitting courtside takes a swing at Thomas. It has to happen eventually.

Isiah got in an argument with fans during the game last night.
This is how the NY Times described it:
” Thomas apparently had heard enough. Late in the game, he could be seen debating some fans sitting near the court. One of those fans, Mara Altschuler, was so enraged by the discussion that she sought out reporters after the final buzzer.

?He said it?s the fans? fault because they don?t have a good sixth man,? said Altschuler, who has season tickets near midcourt. Her family has had the seats for more than 40 years, since the old Garden, she said.

Thomas was evasive when asked about the argument.

?I was just trying to make sure that we kept the team together and we stayed focused on what we were doing, in trying to win a basketball game,? he said. ?Our fans are great. They support us and they show up and we?re glad they?re here.?

Asked again if he had argued with the fans, Thomas gave an almost identical response. A team spokesman cut off his postgame interview after only five questions.

I recall during the Anucha case Isiah saying he didn’t care about ticket holders….
It’s now to the point where the Knicks are blaming the fans for their poor play, or at least Isiah, who is the guy setting the tone in the locker room.
Just what you want, you coach arguing with fans who shell out big bucks for this lousy product…
