Melo playing the point forward is going to be great for Melo in terms of learning to be a leader, setting up his teammates. He needs this responsibility. The few times Melo and STAT have teamed up on the pick and roll it looked nice. Hopefully we can see more of it. We're gonna need to lean on Melo hard these first few weeks while BD and Shump are out and the rest of the team gels. But Melo is set up to be a true MVP this season, even if ESPN doesn't notice.

Meanwhile we are really getting some fortunate timing on our West Coast trip. Steph Curry reinjured his ankle so I doubt he'll play tomorrow night (or at least won't be 100%), and Bynum is out for the Lakers game.

Marc Stein also reporting that the Knicks are interested in Jeremy Lin. I don't think he'll be that great but hey, beggars can't be choosers when you're sifting through the waiver wire for PG types.

Man that Twolves-OKC game was really entertaining. Lots of fun young teams out there now. I think the TWolves have a chance to be good. How many top 5 picks do they have on their team now? Love, Darko, Beasley, Rubio, Wesley Johnson, Derrick Williams. Even though some of them (Darko) are obvious busts, that's a lot of raw physical talent there, and that's not even mentioning AR (who is Stromile Swift 2.0 it appears). And finally a real coach.

Re: Rubio - 26 minutes, 3 shots, 6 assists, 5 reb, zero TOs. He's a lot quicker (ie. fast-twitch quickness) than I thought - didn't do that bad a job even against Westbrook.

Re: the Nuggs-Mavs game - Lawson and Miller just controlled that game from beginning to end. Dallas is going to have trouble this year - they really have no good defenders in their backcourt - Kidd is "crafty" but too old to stay in front of Lawson-type PGs, and they don't have Chandler there to clean up the mess anymore. Carlisle is a great coach but he's got his hands full this time.

Hasn't Karl already said that Faried will pretty much not play this year? Obviously, while the Knuggets are blowing their opponents out, it is hard to complain, but I'd like to see Karl give Faried a bit of a chance. I mean, not even in a blowout? Weird.

On the subject on televised broadcasts, I'm gonna have a rage attack if MSG and Time Warner don't agree on a deal by the end of the year.

@46

I'd rather have Mark Jackson get credit for the win than ever hear him broadcast again. It's a win-win situation for me. I don't get to listen to him commentating and David Lee is winning.

Holy shit, Larry Hughes is back in the league! After not playing the entire 2010-11 season, Hughes somehow got a spot on the Orlando Magic roster. Cuh-ray-zee.

Looking around the league, do the Knicks have anything to offer for Shaun Livingston? The Bucks have three point guards, so maybe they'd be willing to part with Livingston. Livingston has always been a good distributor, but his problem was that he was a goddawful shooter. However, after his terrible injuries, he no longer takes ugly shots. I could easily see him as a 29% assist rate guy with the Knicks, with a 53% True Shooting. But I guess Milwaukee wants to see what they have with him first.

Extra E took an oh-fer in his Nets debut. Three three attempts, three misses.
