ess-dog: It sounds like Selby or Shumpert could be the best defenders (and best athletes) of the group.

Selby's talented..as is Shumpert. Selby's pretty tough on defense. But I can't see burnin our pick on a player who we haven't seen utilized properly. Maybe he blows everyone away at the workouts. But if i'm picking between Jackson and Selby..Jackson's the pick. As athletic as Selby..a better shooter..and is incredibly long. Look at the other PG's drafted recently that are similar to Jackson. 2 come to mind..Jrue Holiday and Russell Westbrook. U mean to tell me that u wouldn't want that kinda defensive capability at the point? He's already a better shooter than both guys and a better PG than Douglas. I don't think that with a 1st round pick that u should ever go with the largely unknown, which is what Selby is at this point because of the way he was used at KU. Now as a young team looking for talent, u can problee afford to draft Selby at 17 since u have nothing to immediately play for other than finding what pieces work. But our Knicks aren't in that position. Every roster move Walsh makes basically has to fit and be damn near a home run considering he sold the farm for Melo and we are pretty much a defensive/rebounding big and a reliable back up PG away from serious contention. Jackson's closer to bein that home run than Selby is at this point. I'm not sayin one is better than the other talent wise..but we just know more about Jackson at this point. And the fact that his length will allow him to guard 1's and 2's puts him over Selby.

If we stay at 17, I think the Knicks have to go for Reggie Jackson or Nolan Smith. Still think we should trade down where we still may be able to grab one of them (if not a guy like Darius Morris would do) and a big like Jordan Williams from Maryland.

Not for nothing, but I think the Cavs getting the Nos. 1 and 4 is both a blessing and a curse. This draft has been widely ridiculed as the weakest on record, so you would have to think that the potential for plucking a bust are greater than the average year. While Cavs may end up with best pg and c in Irving and Kanter, neither player is a guaranteed superstar. Kanter's knee issues are also a big concern. The last time I can remember a team having two picks this high was 2001 (sort of) when Chicago traded Elton Brand to the Clips for the second pick (Chandler) and the fourth pick (Eddy Curry). Those picks failed miserably to turn the post-Jordan Bulls into contenders.

Since we’ll be playing against players like Rose, Rondo, and Wall for years to come, a point guard that can play defense like Reggie Jackson would be a great asset.

Ultimately, I think I'm against trading for a pg right now, unless it's for practically nothing.

TD has his flaws, but trading him for Sessions doesn't really move us forward. We have Billups this year, and we can either draft a point guard and/or rent someone on a one year deal. Guys like Ben Uzoh, Earl Watson, or even Royal Ivey (worst case) could come in and give us 10 min. a game on a one year deal. We could also buy a 2nd rounder and use that on which ever pg shakes out: Jenkins, Shumpert, Norris Cole, Selby.

Faried/Jenkins/Watson/TD/Jordan/Shawne is a pretty good bench. Still no starting center, but the rest of the squad is sound. Maybe you get Williams from the D-league or get a guy like Hollins or Haddadi.

I just think you don't mess with the chance to get CP3 so that you can get a guy like Sessions.

@15 and 17 – I’m not sure that we have the luxury of picking another guy whose major value is volume scoring.I think Jimmer is great but his ceiling feels like maybe a slightly better JJ Redick – I love Redick but I think we have bigger needs – like a true PnR type distributor to play with Amare, a true big man that can protect the rim and take the pounding that wore Amare down all year, or a real dominant-type wing defender/3 point specialist.

Couldn't agree more.

There's probably not a chance in the world of this, but Daniel Gilbert's ridiculous prediction at the time that the Cavs would win a championship before Lebron is not THAT farfetched. I think Miami's window is probably open until the 2013-14 season - Wade will be 32 by the middle of that season, and seems likely to break down by that point, if not before. They are totally capped out until 2015-16, and have few draft picks to improve their team. It seems likely that in the new CBA the MLE will either be much smaller or that there will be a hard cap, meaning they'll have to convince FA's to take big paycuts in order to play with Miami Thrice.

Meanwhile - and not even talking about our NYK - assuming that the new CBA makes it feasible for Chicago to resign Rose - the Bulls roster is basically signed through 2013-14, with Noah signed through 15-16 and presumably Rose signed long-term. Chicago has ALL their own 1st rounders, and has Charlotte's 2012 lottery-protected pick (and 2 late 1st rounders this year) to boot.

Cleveland, on the other hand, has 8 1st rounders in the next 5 drafts (2 in 2011, 1 in 2012, 2 in 2013, 1 in 2014, 2 in 2015) and by next summer will only have ~$28M in salary commitments for 2012. They'd have to hit on their draft picks and not do stupid things like trade for more Antawn Jamisons, but it's not inconceivable...
