  • [New York Daily News] Woodson open to playing Felton with Kidd (Wed, 03 Oct 2012 05:31:26 GMT)
Mike Woodson confirmed on Tuesday that Raymond Felton will be the Knicks opening night starting point guard. It doesn’t mean that Jason Kidd won’t finish games but Felton, for now, will begin the season as Jeremy Lin’s successor.

That headline from the Daily News might as well read: “Woodson open to being mediocre for the first 15-20 games before realizing his error and putting Kidd into the starting line-up over Felton”.

Am I the only one who thinks its ridiculous to start Felton over Kidd? I don’t care if you split the minutes between them evenly, I want Kidd setting the tone (on offense & in leadership) from the beginning of the game and at the end of the game. You can give Felton the middle of the game.

Stop the presses! Melo says he’s willing to sacrifice scoring 30, 35, 40 points to win basketball games!

“This is my 10th year,” Anthony said. “I think everybody pretty much knows I can score the basketball. But for me, I’m done trying to score 30, 35, 40 points for us to win a basketball game. I don’t want that role anymore. It’s what I do best. But in order for this team to be successful with the guys that we have we need a more well-rounded team.”

Apparently, his experience with the Olympic team in London prompted him to change his perspective. If Melo has really “seen the light”, we could be in for a really good season with a deep playoff run.

Realizing that he doesent need to score is cool but we kinda need his scoring because of the uncertainty of the other options on our team. With the Pgs we have he doesent need to focus on playmaking just playing defense and getting his 25 points efficiently, wether we will get both consistently is the question.

I think it’s more about not having the mentality that his team absolutely needs him shooting the ball to win. Hopefully it means he’s willing to flow a bit more freely with the offense, although that will require some help from the guards, Chandler and Amar’e simply can’t start an offense with the ball in their hands (well Amar’e might be able to again, but he was always better as a pick and roll partner)

‘The league defined flopping as “any physical act that appears to have been intended to cause the referees to call a foul on another player” in an official release.’…under this definition every player who is good at getting to the line is a “flopper”. This could become a big issue this season if rule is enforced as it is defined.
