Thanks for the reply ruru. Plus isn’t JR from NY, hmmm I don’t know. MDA’s track record with personalities isn’t good, see Nate.

he is a personality, but he matured quite a bit (NBA related) under Karl.... It's one of those things that is completely overblown, IMO. Guys who are that good and can carry a team through long stretches shouldn't be treated as GK treated JR. he should have been a Manu/Terry 35 mpg guy.

Smith will take a lot of "bad" shots... But he's a guy with the best range in basketball, without a doubt..and when he's going it extends beyond 30 ft. That's often when he'd get yanked.

Teams mostly are at their best on the 2nd and worse on the 3rd game on a back to back to back.

how many back to back to backs have there been in league history so far, maybe three? plus Philly starters didn't have to play much last night, I doubt that will be much of an issue.

2010 TS%: 550, better than Jason Terry and Kobe Bryant, assist percentage very close to Bryant and Wade. 11th in SG PER

2008-09: 576 TS, higher than Wade, Bryant and Roy, assist % higher than Bryant, Terry, Allen (Among others who seem to have better reputations as passers)

2007-08: 603 TS, just beggining to develop playmaking skills.. 12.9 assist rate

2006-07: 585 TS, first year given extended playing time over long period

Smith is simply one of the elite bench players in basketball, and can easily be a top 5 SG if trusted by coach... SSOL is the ideal system for Smith, who would probably be the best playmaker on the current Knicks team sans Davis.

yanked around quite a bit.

Check out JR's net +/- in Denver

2010: +2.8 with a 17.4 PER, he led all Nuggets in +/- pre-trade
2009: +3.1 with a 17 PER
2008: +9.7 (led team by a long shot) with a 18.9 PER
2007: +4.7, 20.4 PER
2006: +3.1 17.1 PER

Most year in Denver the bench outperformed the starters... some of it was because guys like Anthony Carter started, much of it was JR Smith.... and he can get lost at times defensively, but more than makes up for it his energy....teams were typically better defensively with him at the 2 guard... In fact, his defensive profile was better than Aflallos.

D.: Dude correct me if I’m wrong, I’m trying to profile you from your posts. You’re a former nuggets fan, u seem to know a lot about that team, you are the ultimate melo apologists, you defense of him often lacks objectivity so it might be that u know him personally or are stalking him. Lastly your fascination with bad boys makes me think you’re female, maybe your the main handle of the melo street team. Or u just want the Knicks to become the melo nuggets. Not a bad offensive team by the way. What’s my count?

Haha. Wow. Female, really? I guess I got to check myself, dear god.

I'm sure I come off as a Melo apologist, which is pretty funny considering my reputation on other boards. I suppose I feel like I need to try to balance the overal narrative here a bit.

But yeah, lifelong Nuggets fan, still am. Used to have season tickets and met Melo a few times.

Obviously, KMart and JR would be great additions purely for basketball reasons. Though they were two of my favorite players in Denver precisely because they were never favorites of the white middle class fanbase. (they were the Thuggets).

From a personality/persona standpoint, Kenyon would be an ideal addition. And Junior is one of the most talented players in basketball who's spent the majority of his career playing under a coach who held a personal grudge against him (whether it was somewhat warranted or not).... The same grudge Karl held against Ray Allen and kendall Gill.

I can't tell you how great a fit JR Smith would be in this offense, either off the bench or beside Shumpert.

Might sound fanboyish, but it's the truth. Purely from a statistical perspective, JR Smith may have been the second most valuable player during Melo's tenure -- and he possesses skills as a ballhandler and playmaker that were often severly underutilized, beside the fact that his playing time was...

My dream scenario for the Knicks bench would be to sign K-Mart in March and then Jr Smith in the off-season. They could be the best bench combo in the NBA, and there’s a falsestigma attached to each of them that would make their signings somewhat feasible.
