Juany8: Although I agree with your premise, Terrence Williams is not the answer. I saw him play on the Rockets and was enamored by his potential, but he doesn’t play consistently hard and he’s been in the doghouse of every coach he has been under. This team needs to find guys like Gary Neel/Isaiah Thomas, players who have had to earn every second of playing time because of their draft positions/size, and therefore are willing to work super hard and do everything right while they are on the floor. Landry Fields was supposed to be that guy, but he forgot how to shoot and then got payed a massive contract by the Raptors (seriously, how do Courtney Lee and Ronnie Brewer combined make about HALF the salary of Landry Fields?)

Eh, if I’m picking up guys for the end of the bench I’d go for higher upside over high character. Gary Neal, Isaiah Thomas, and Landry Fields exceeded people’s expectations by become productive NBA players, but won’t ever be much more than that. On a team stocked with veterans and a coach that doesn’t suffer fools, I’d rather wager that someone with an attitude problem will make good on their elite talent rather than on someone with moderate talent being able to crack the rotation through sheer hard work. This team is more than one Gary Neal away from contention.

Speaking of possibly picking up a high-upside/character issues reclamation project named Williams for the end of the bench, I’d be inclined to double down and scoop up Terrence Williams from the scrap heap.

He doesn’t seem to be any more of a knucklehead than JR Smith (which I suppose is faint praise) and he is a freak athlete, super talented multi-position swingman.Grabbing a few guys (and I’m game for Sean Williams too) at the end of the bench who have youth and game-changing upside would be a smart move for a team where none of the core players are apt to take their game to another level at this stage in their careers.If one Williams “figures it out” under the direction of all the veterans on the roster, that could be a real difference-maker.
