Z: I wouldn’t hold your breath for Chandler to develop any post moves. If it hasn’t happened yet, it’s probably not going to happen.

Besides, guys that spend a summer working on a move feel obligated to use it. We really don’t need Chandler missing awkward hook shots or baseline fadeaways… We already have enough guys taking those kinds of silly shots.

While a post move or two would be great, if he could just hit a simple foul line jumper it would be a huge help to the offense- especially since Woodson wants to use him in the high post more. How many times did he commit charges by just barreling down the lane in the Miami series when he could have had a wide-open 12 footer? A little baseline/foul line jumper would probably open up more for the offense than any post moves would and given how much his free throw shooting has improved it should be in the realm of possibility.

I don’t understand how a guy that athletic can play in the NBA for 10 years and not learn a move or 2 to help keep the defense honest. What do these guys do in practice and in the off season? How about a few weeks with Hakeem this summer?

Anyway, just wanted to comment that Frank is so right about Chandler.I don’t understand how a guy that athletic can play in the NBA for 10 years and not learn a move or 2 to help keep the defense honest. What do these guys do in practice and in the off season? How about a few weeks with Hakeem this summer?

TC learning a post move or two is a GOOD thing. There were so many times that he got the ball in deep and ended up passing it out of what should be an advantageous position for a 7'1" guy with great athleticism. He needs to be able to shoot a gimme jump hook from 5-7 feet, and to be able to make a 15 foot open shot to make sure his defender doesn't sag too far off and clog the basket area. I'm not saying he needs to shoot 5 jump hooks or mid-range jumpers per game - he just needs to be able to make teams pay if they ignore him. Even if he only makes 50% of those shots and his TS% drops from 70% to 62% because of that, so be it -- it just means his offensive usage will increase and he'll still be scoring at an above average rate overall. In addition, it should open up some space for other players, since defenses often are playing 5-on-4 any time Chandler is not involved in a PNR.

Amare desperately needs to work on his mid-range J as well.
