Again, my apologies, THCJ, that's not what I meant to do.

I simply wish that you would make more of an effort to attend to the KB "line of civil discourse" and not cross it as frequently or as far as you do. You are clearly intelligent enough to be witty, sardonic, sarcastic, and profane without offending not only those you attack but those who read what you write. Nobody is asking you to like anybody you don't like or agree with anythng you disagree with, just that you don't go off the rails to the point that it evokes concerns about your character, justified or not.

I am actually rooting for the Celtics, who I have hated (along with the Cowboys) for 45 years or so. One of my best friends, who lives in the Heights, has morphed into an insufferable Net's fan and he has made me irrationally hate the Nets. It's really quite interesting. BTW, Merry Christmas to all, and I mean all of you. Where I live it is very beautiful and white outside. We got a few inches last night. I'm stoking up the fire, picking up my grand kids and getting ready for our boys. Go Knicks.

Yes, it pisses me off that I have to defend the entirety of the field of economics against Juany8?s bullshit attacks (for which, if he put his mind to it, he could potentially win a Nobel Prize)

For a second I almost thought this was meant as a kind of backhanded compliment, like you honestly thought I could win a Nobel prize if I just fixed up my perspective. I was actually kind of touched for a moment, and you even followed it up with a very reasonable counter to Ruru's arguments instead of the usual spiel about how our brains are made out of bull fecal matter.

Not even a slight mention of drinking bleach in the entire post, and I would have been offended if I was compared to a sex offender too, even if I know what Z-man is talking about with people who live double lives.

so just now there was another example of where the smarter basketball play was the worse play in the box score, a variation on the "Kobe assist":

2 on 1 fastbreak for the Nets, with Williams ahead of the play and Blatche trailing. if Williams tries to force a pass to Blatche to finish, he runs the risk of the ball being thrown away/Blatche not being able to handle it, so the correct play is to get the shot up and make Bass commit to stopping it. either the shot goes in or it misses/Bass blocks it in which case Blatche is the only one left underneath and easily cleans it up, which is what happened.

so Williams just gets a missed shot in the box score, but it was a better basketball play than going for the possibly easy assist would have been.

heh, this position in general is kind of awesome as I've been accused of many things, but not being smart has never been one of them. I can take all the insults anyone can dish out, but honestly some of your recent replies have come across as sociopathic, which part of me kind of likes as that's how deeply I've gotten into your head, but a little part of me expects to find you waiting outside my front door one day, frothing at the mouth about the inarguable merits of offensive rebounding.

the amusing thing is I'm just doing the exact same thing that the first wave of alleged "advanced stats" tried to do, looking for problems in the existing sets of numbers which now include the wildly off-base and worthless WP48.

Z-man: I apologize, didn’t mean to imply that you were a child molester, only that being respected in one’s professional realm does not mean that somebody isn’t a weirdo behind the scenes. All I have to go on is what you write here. If you’re telling me that you’re a kind, gentle, beloved soul in real life, yet take on the persona of a shit-spewing, know-it-all intolerant asshole on this board just for kicks, IMHO that is fucking weird. Seriously, don’t you think your standing in the minds of your students, colleagues, and supervisors would be negatively affectedr more hate-drenched posts entertaining to read. Are you a great guy or an asshole? No way to know for sure via this forum, but my money’s on asshole.

You compared my actions to that of a child molester. I write over-the-top statements to jon abbey because I think he's a mouth-breather and, honestly, I do not give one damn about his experience on this board or off it. If you think this extends to the people that I work with, the students I mentor and teach, or the people that I love, you are constructing a false analogy if I've ever heard one.

Yes, it pisses me off that I have to defend the entirety of the field of economics against Juany8's bullshit attacks (for which, if he put his mind to it, he could potentially win a Nobel Prize) or to remind ruruland that like other "knowledgeable" basketball minds, he may think that he understands causality better than he actually does (i.e. "If we sign this player, I'm sure we can turn him into the all-star he's never been"). But if you think that you know me because of what I post on here, and make outrageous comparisons that attempt to equate my behavior with the behavior of a convicted kid rapist -- well, I respect your intelligence enough to know that you need no explanation of the sad irony therein.
