I went to Governor’s Island on Labor Day with my wife and a few friends and I saw a lot of Brooklyn Nets gear. I really don’t like their merchandise.

The xerox look? This is what I wrote in May about the newly unveiled Nets logo: “Brooklyn is one of the most vibrant, diverse, artistic and colorful communities in the country. Brooklynites have a strong borough-identity, love sports, and I expect they will eventually embrace the Nets. The new flat, plain, black-and-white logo, however, really missed an opportunity to represent Brooklyn with a fresh representative look. I don’t see anything about it that reminds me of Brooklyn except the name itself. Maybe, hopefully, the uniform is nicer than the logo.
I still think Jeremy Lin would be a perfect face of the franchise for the Brooklyn Nets, but I’m less enthusiastic about Lin wearing a Brooklyn Nets uniform that looks xeroxed.”

I like how the Miami (formerly Florida) Marlins embraced color and design to capture the local vibe in their rebranding campaign. Brooklyn is at least as vibrant and diverse as Miami – the Nets could/should have followed the Marlins lead to represent the Brooklyn vibe in their look.

At 0:20, you’ll see Amar’e and Chandler standing in the home jerseys. I think they look great when worn.

That “once a Knick, always a Knick” thing really is kinda stupid, I guess Chauncey Billups will be forever be a Knickerbocker in his heart. Just like Mike Piazza will always be a Florida Marlin (did they actually print a uniform for him? Should be a collector’s item)

Yeah it is really lame. I think it is mainly a shout out to guys like Camby, Kurt & Felton.
