Isiah’s friends and college teammates are already the head coach and GM of this franchise. Whatever his “official” relationship to the team, he clearly has influence with the owner and front office.

But David Stern will never allow him to be hired in any kind of decision-making capacity (he already nixed them hiring him as a consultant), so he will probably remain ambiguously associated with the team for as long as Dolan owns it. I don’t know why this recent meeting (in “business suits”, no less!) has got everyone so bent out of shape. The status quo has not changed, nor will it.

Yeah, I noticed that too but wasn't sure of what prodigal meant and was too lazy to look it up. That said, THCJ would argue that "prodigal" was the perfect word to describe the Knicks current situation.

From the outside, it looks like Dolan lives in a hermetically sealed world that does not let in dissenting opinions, truthful yet unflattering assessments, or even the faintest reminder of past blunders. It is all the more bizarre that the head of a media conglomerate cares so little, and perhaps knows so little, about how he and his cronies are perceived.

The return of Isiah Thomas to the Knicks would be like the fourth (or fifth) return of Billy Martin to the Yankees. It would be pretty clear that there is a pathological link between owner and executive, and everyone else would be certain that the combo held no prospect for success.

I do not think I would give up the Knicks immediately, but I could become a basketball widow if (when?) Isiah returned to form.

I think a lot of us would stop being Knicks fans if Isiah Thomas returns to a position in the front office. Knicks fans boo’ed the Kings’ Isiah Thomas just for having that name. There was a huge media and fan outrage when they signed Isiah Thomas as a “consultant.”

I honestly love the New York Knicks. Being a Knicks fan led me to read this website four years ago, which led me to loads of basketball knowledge thanks to guys like THCJ, Ted Nelson, Thomas B, Bob Silverman, Brian Cronin, Jim Cavan, etc. But I cannot imagine being a Knicks fan if Isiah Thomas is making decisions. It’s an insult to everybody who roots for this team.
