I always find that what the are trying to say and how what they say is interpreted especially by the NY media is always slightly off base. Ha. What are you going to do.

Totally agree- Melo has come a long way with his PR since his admitting that he needed to play harder after MDA quit last year. Amare used to be pretty good with the media but I was pretty turned off by everything he was saying yesterday. The way I see it - if he's on the court in a game, there should be no excuses from him about his play, good or bad. It's like he's preemptively giving himself an excuse for not playing well on his return. No one will blame him for starting slowly after surgery and not playing for 3 months, but it just looks/feels bad to play the martyr "if I have to sacrifice my body for the team of course I will" bit.

cgreene: I thought about it from that perspective as well. And that does have some truth to it.The finger thing was especially freakish. The only other explanation then is just typical Knicks bad luck.Haha.I mean you would think w the way Durant is built he’d be much more prone to injury but he never misses a game.I am not saying Melo is dogging it or should return sooner by the way.

I may be wrong but in years past I think Melo would have tried to push through and play while injured but this year he has the luxury to sit out until he is closer to 100%. The team is capable of winning some with out him and the combination of the Knicks record along with the rest of the East's record helps to0. IMHO

Frank: I sort of disagree with this — think about the 3 plays during which he’s gotten hurt — one could easily have been a much more serious injury when Howard undercut him –missed two games, came back like gangbusters. The finger was a freak accident – came back like gangbusters. And even the Camby injury was another freak accident. This isn’t like Brook Lopez / Yao Ming and their feet, or even Amare and his microfractures. If anything, he seems to have an amazing ability to NOT get hurt seriously.

I tend to agree with the overall optimism. However one thing is stuck in my craw today.Melo is starting to prove to not be a durable player. He’s missed a lot of games now the past 2 seasons.79 of 96 games. He is on pace to play 66 games this year. That pace alone would disqualify him for MVP consideration even at this level IMO.What gives?

the Celtics are like the killer in every horror movie, they're not dead until the final credits roll.

it is great to see them struggle like this, though: they hadn't lost three games in a row by 18+ points before tonight since 1977 (!!!).

The Celtics are not a good basketball team as currently constructed. They have no center, and a 36 year old KG cannot be relied upon to play center for the duration of an NBA season. Ray Allen probably left that team because he knew they couldn't contend. They say winning quells all problems, so he probably would have stayed on board if he felt they could compete with Miami.

I find it amazing that people here really thought the Celtics would win this division. Going into 2013, it feels like the Knicks and Heat are the top teams in the division, and every other seed is up for grabs. If somebody told me that would be the case in April, I would have tried to sell them a bridge.

Celtics get waxed by the Kings, giving up 118 points, 34 in the 4th quarter.

I guess we're supposed to keep believing that for Boston, it's all about the playoffs and they're just pacing themselves. But except for a victory over OKC at home, they've been really unimpressive this season, and have had some alarmingly bad defensive performances. At some point, they're gonna have to stop "coasting" and establish themselves as the Eastern power the sports media continues to insist they are.
