well, Smith would be $2.8M tops, Mayo I think will get at least the full midcap.

Jameer Nelson opting out of a $7.9M option makes me nervous about how much money agents think will be flying around.

I'd call it about even. Maybe Smith has more talent, but he plays like a total moron. His TS% should be close to .600 with his talent, but it's close to .500 because he has no idea how to play basketball. I really hate watching him and Melo play, which is why I don't really follow the Knicks religiously anymore. I hated watching the '00s teams, but for some reason I was always waiting for it to get better. Now it's supposed to be better and the roster seems pretty locked in for a while... and they shoot themselves in the foot constantly by playing like idiots. If Mayo played in an offense that allowed his to take a higher % of his shots from outside he could probably be more efficient.

johnlocke: Toney Douglas is most likely being moved

Not sure he'd bring much back right now. I think the best move is probably to hold for this season and see if he turns his career around. The talent is there.

We all keep assuming cap size will stay where it is. But it might actually go up. The season was better than expected. And the Knicks ticket price hike should add significantly to league revenue FTP ;)

I still think Kidd can play well enough for a contender, but I think he can get the full midlevel for 2 years somewhere. For 3 mil I think we’re looking at Delonte/Hinrich types. Or maybe we can trade TD or Fields for someone like Earl Watson. Maybe we can figure out a trade for Ridnour?

DRed: Dan Gadzuric was on the Knicks?

Still is, technically. Grunwald put a second, non-guaranteed year on his contract, which allows him to use the guy as a trade chip to a team that is looking to dump salary. If Douglas is moved, he'll almost certainly be moved with Gadzuric.

I like the idea of getting Kidd also, especially as a mentor for Lin, but I think he’s more like a vet’s minimum guy at this point of his career. His #s have taken a precipitous drop in the last 1-2 seasons, and it’s not going to get better. If we’re going to spend the mini-MLE on a PG or SG I’d rather have someone like Kirk Hinrich, who also is probably past his best days but can play both PG/SG, and still can shoot 40% from 3, run an offense if forced to, and defend.
