Just an update–I spoke with Time Warner this morning. They told me the Knick game will be on NBA TV and the League pass tonight. I guess they are turning on the NBA channel to subscribers and the LP is free for another week. I have no problem paying for the LP, but I think home market games are routinely blacked out. I live 200 miles north of NYC, but I think the Knicks home games are not ordinarily available on LP. Who knows? We’ll see tonight. Still bummin.

For what it’s worth I live 4 hours from Charlotte NC and Bobcats games are blacked out on league pass even though the channel that supposedly broadcasts their games hasnt shown one all year.

@ dajudge, wow, that would be great-i have serious doubt and the game is not on the nba tv calendar. can time warner do that? (remove blackout restriction?). i actually came here today seeking info on bars that’d have the game via satellite or on fios or something. i am majorly bummed about this impasse between two horrible evil cable giants-it is hard to take sides when both sides are so incredibly greedy and have no credibility whatsoever-it is like trying to take sides in the iran/iraq wars-i would pay a la carte for msg if that were an option and it’s pretty ridiculous how both companies spend a ton on their propaganda campaigns against each other-maybe if they pooled that money they could reach an agreement and show respect to the fans without whom there would be no nba multi billion dollar pie to fight over
      ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

    4. tastycakes

Cable networks are the worst. Much like the traditional record industry, they represent a dying breed, and the world will be a better place when they are all exterminated.

As my good friend Dickie V would say, “Cream Puff City!!!” this week for the Knicks. TOR, CHA, WAS, DET? Those are all terrible teams. I expect hyperventilating championship predictions around these parts next Monday, but gotta keep it in perspective. Of course, it should be a good week to get healthy and see the Knicks play better ball.

    5. StevenU

@tasty-yes, it should be a very easy stretch-but the knicks have been so bad for so long, i would not take anything for granted.
how is it even possible to support time warner or cablevision? these companies really are evil empires. if they do not win 3 of 4 this week it’ll be disheartening

Surprised that a writer as solid as Beck would rehash the old argument about Melo waiting until free agency to help the Knicks keep their young talent. (today’s NY Times) We’ve been through this discussion ad nauseum on this site, but Melo had absolutely no intention of waiting for free agency because of the upcoming lockout, and would have agreed to an extension with NJ if the Knicks hadn’t coughed up the goods. It would have been nice to keep Gallo, Felton et al, but there was no way to make that happen.

    7. d-mar

Brian posted this on the prior thread, but great bounce back game by Gallo last night vs. LA, including 5 steals (where did that come from?)

Also Kobe was 6-28, would have been nice if he had shot like that against us, instead he was banking in 3 pointers and hitting ridiculous contested turn around jumpers.

Beck’s column read like a pipe dream to me, too. It was basically Bleacher Report-level insight.

    9. StevenU

update-tasty-i think your info is incorrect-just got off the phone and chat session with TWC-tonights game is not available

    10. alsep73

Beat writers tweeting that Amar’e may miss the Toronto game, but that Shumpert may be ready to return to full practice tomorrow. (He was dunking with ease at the training facility this morning.)

    11. Z-man

Not for nothing, but considering the abuse he has taken here and elsewhere, Kahn has assembled a pretty exciting team with lots of trade bait and flexibility. They may not make the playoffs, but I’d pay to see them play.

    12. DS

With all the intelligent posts I’ve seen on this site over the years, I’m shocked that any of you would trust anything a Time Warner customer services rep. says.

Drafting Rubio when they did was a no-brainer. Kahn called Rubio’s bluff and now the kid is in the fold and looks like he’s going to turn into a star. They are a team I’m watching early on a bunch since League Pass is free… and they might land in my #5 slot if they can win more games. Dumping Beasley would help…that guy is a total bum.

Kahn has been collecting talented players without a ton of regard for chemistry or defense. They have some interesting pieces, and tradeable assets. I’d be happy as a Minny fan now, esp. after the past few years.

    14. tastycakes

Also, for the record, I said nothing about Time Warner. I live in Texas, which means I watch on League Pass and don’t have to deal with all that local blackout horseshit. Thank God.

You know, if you’re savvy, you could consider going the route of VPN + League Pass to circumvent the blackout stuff.

    15. Brian Cronin (@Brian_Cronin)

      Ugh. He is so lame.

    16. Brian Cronin (@Brian_Cronin)

ESPN had a list of five possible first-time All Stars plus a couple of honorable mentions. Ty Lawson was not on the list. That seems to be a major oversight.

      Here were their picks:

      1. LaMarcus Aldridge, Portland Trail Blazers
      2. Eric Gordon, New Orleans Hornets
      3. Andrew Bynum, Los Angeles Lakers
      4. John Wall, Washington Wizards
      5. Rudy Gay, Memphis Grizzlies

      Marcus Thornton, Sacramento Kings
      James Harden, Oklahoma City Thunder
      DeAndre Jordan, Los Angeles Clippers

Aldridge likely is a lock, but I think Lawson should be #2 on the list.

      What do you folks think?

    17. jon abbey

John Wall looks like he will never pan out at this point, him being on that list is solely because of where he was drafted. and Marcus Thornton? um, no.

And as long as he keeps his MPG and PPG up, he might someday land a max contract from the Knicks in a massive sign and trade in which the Knicks gut their roster to get him mid-year. Finals bound, 2016!

    19. Conor

So I take it I won’t be able to watch the game on league pass as a time warner subscriber living in NYC?

Where do people usually look for streams for the games?

first row sports. Runs the fastest for me, anyway.

    21. sisterray

I think DirecTV is still carrying MSG. If League Pass is still blacked out (which is outrageous in itself), then all you need to do is find a local sports bar with DirecTV.

    22. daJudge

I spoke with Time Warner again and they (it) told me that the games are blacked out for me. Of course, this was different information from this morning. TW actually had the gumption to state that they are “negotiating for me”. What a rip. Sorry if I mislead anyone, but still, who knows. I might change to Direct TV, since my TW package is really pricey and I am really fed up with this BS.

    23. cgreene

Anyone going to, want to or know a good directv spot un financial district seems like a good nigbt for an impromptu meetup

    24. bob cook

      Re- Harrelson
Imagine how jacked we would have been last year if Mozgov had put up numbers in any of his early games like what Harrelson did against the Kings. So I’m jacked now.

    25. Gamecockerbocker

      daJudge:
Does anyone know if it is legal to watch an internet feed or does it violate copyright laws?

Probably illegal, but less morally wrong than what TWC and MSG are doing right now.

    26. StevenU

Tastycake, sorry, it was dajudge that said twc told him league pass and nba tv would carry tonights knick game
bob cook, i think the only thing Harrelson and Mosgov have in common is that they are both white-one is a 3pt shooter, plays on the ground and is a pf at the pro level, the other is a legit center who is a shot blocker
dajudge, i am sure all the streaming stuff online is not purely legal-but provided you are merely watching and not uploading or downloading content i think you are okay-surely they way the cable giants are f**king us is criminal
Gamecocker-got a link for us, maybe? When I looked all I found was a page saying it would be up in 24 hours
the quality is often poor but oleotv usually has a lot of games-i can not tell if there’s a valid link for tonights game yet though

    27. StevenU

Totally agree with Zman: Twolves are one of the best teams to watch-it’s not just Rubio-who does indeed look pretty amazing- a once every ten years court vision kind of guy (Jkidd, Nash might be the only clearly superior passers/floor leaders-and they are both getting very slow, esp JKidd).
Love is in true NBA basketball shape for the first time, and looked like the best player on the floor in the Mavs game. Barrea is still 5’11″ and pretty amazing in his own right, Derrick Williams seems like he has game…I know everyone loves to bash Darko but he is actually giving him what the Knicks thought he might provide- legit size, shot blocking, fouls and some passing at the center position too bad Dantoni is so clueless when it comes to playing a center on offense. ARandolph even had a decent game-or two-and personally I think he and Beasley are just too young to give up on just yet

    28. BigBlueAL

Berman tweeted that Amar’e is out tonight and depending on how Shump looks in practice tomorrow he could play on Wed.

      I like the Shump news!

    30. Brian Cronin (@Brian_Cronin)

Turiaf broke same hand he did during the summer, out 5-6 weeks. He really is fragile.

My wife was going to buy Knicks/Wizards tickets so we could see Beardy, so I am glad that she did not do so.

    31. StevenU

cgreene-you purchase it from your cable or satellite provider-and local area teams are blacked out-there is a free preview till january 8th (but no knick games-now or ever–if you are in nyc tv market)
i am contemplating direct tv-but wary-would be happy if anyone in nyc area has it and will give me some feedback-i truly HATE time warner-even before this garbage-and msg/cablevision is just as bad-hard to support either side in a giant corporate war that disregards the fans that make their evil empires possible in the first place

    32. xduckshoex

      cgreene:
can someone tell me if you buy league pass broadband if there are any blackout restrictions?

In the free trial only the nationally televised games are blacked out in League Pass Broadband.

    33. BigBlueAL

Have you guys seen how bad Shawne Williams has played so far for NJ??

On the season he is shooting 3 for 17 including 0 for 9 from 3pt range. Has scored 6 pts in 65 mins over 5 games. That is beyond awful.

    34. Robert Silverman (@BobSaietta)

Hey y’all, I’ll be manning DDL tonight. If any of you want to ask questions, just make sure you put KB after you ask and i’ll look for you

    35. Robert Silverman (@BobSaietta)

For those wishing to live outside the law, the two best feeds are:

firstrowsports.tv (though they’re down right now)

      chanfeed.com

Enjoy, Pirates of the high internet seas!

    36. StevenU

xduck-not to argue but here in nyc area-on league pass-it says “audio only” for tonights knick game
      :-(

    37. xduckshoex

Yeah, I just logged on and the Knicks-Raptors game is blacked out here. I live over an hour away from Toronto and my cable provider does not even offer the channel that the game is on. This is really stupid.

    38. daJudge

I guess I’ll go XM radio for tonight. Like the old days, kind of. When I first moved way upstate from Queens, I couldn’t get the Knick games. This was a minor piece of the major cultural shock for me. Not seeing my Knicks was the worst. Luckily, there was a AM feed out of Albany. I went to the Hardware store and bought a load of copper wire and made a gigantic antenna in my garage. I didn’t work that well, so I’d go out to my car and listen to the games in a location where it came in. It didn’t matter that the Knicks sucked—I had to listen to the games. Isn’t that the bottom line as a fan? At this point I really think I’m switching to Direct TV and all this sounds like a horrible commercial.
